The 67mm ExpoDisc Neutral White Balance Filter (Portrait) is optimized for Portrait photography. Each filter is individually assembled and calibrated to consistently produce custom color at capture, resulting in warmer and more pleasing skin tones. The ExpoDisc can be used on-the-fly to set a white balance in-camera when shooting JPEG, or it can be used to capture a gray frame to use later in post production when shooting RAW.

Using an ExpoDisc Portrait to set a custom white balance will eliminate many of the yellow, red and blue color casts commonly seen when using Auto White Balance in digital photography. The ExpoDisc is easy to use. Setting a white balance with the ExpoDisc is fast, and eliminates many of the inconsistencies and inconveniences associated with using white balance cards and targets, including unwieldy size, unwanted reflectivity, improper angling, and shadows.

To set a white balance with an ExpoDisc, simply take a photograph of the light source (incident light) through the ExpoDisc, then follow your camera's instructions to set the camera's custom white balance. Because the ExpoDisc is calibrated for an 18% light transmission, you can also use it as a reference tool for manually determining proper exposure. The ExpoDisc is available in a variety of sizes to fit most popular lenses. The ExpoDisc does not thread into the lens; instead, its quick mount design can be pushed-on and popped-off to facilitate a quick white balance.

I am a videographer, use this with my SONY FS100. Takes a little messing around with until I had confidence in the white balance this offers but for sit down interviews and controlled settings, great way to get a nice warm white balance. You'll need to move your camera to where your talent is and point to where your camera will be stationed to white balance. The idea is to WB in the exact location, lighting conditions in which your talent is. Easy pop on, pop off access.

Comments about ExpoImaging 67mm ExpoDisc Digital Warm Balance Filter (Portrait):

I purchased this item to use specifically for the day of my son's birth. Since he came late, I was able to use in on several different occasions: Shooting outdoors, indoors with studio lights, and indoors with fluorescent lights. The skin tones that this yields are excellent and natural looking in all instances. Mixed temperature lighting did not work out as well, but as long as the it was balanced against the dominate light source it is fine. I also used a Lumiquest gel kit on my flash to improve the results in those situations. Make no mistake, this is a portrait tool first and foremost, though it works well in landscapes. Whites in the background do turn out warmer than normal, but not enough to color teeth and eyes in any noticeable way. And yes, it worked flawlessly for my son's first picture in his mother's arms.

Comments about ExpoImaging 67mm ExpoDisc Digital Warm Balance Filter (Portrait):

Pros: I definitely love this product. i use it in both portrait and architectural photography and am extremely happy with the results. No need to color correct in Camera Raw.

Cons: It can be difficult to take a good reading....sometimes i choose the light source that is not the most dominant and the colors come out screwy. But just make sure to set your custom white balances for the different lighting situations before an event and make sure that the colors look good.

Also i would recommend buying a size for your biggest filter size lens as these are a bit expensive. it's not too hard to hold it on the end of the smaller lenses

Overall i would recommend this product to all my photographer friends!

This ExpoDisc is amazing! We ordered it for one of our groups at work and they swore by it. It took care of all our worries about blowing out a person because the person standing next to them had a white or black t-shirt on. It works perfect for indoors or outdoors! One of my good friends also bought one and I couldn't believe how amazing the colors looked! It really helped to warm up portraits! I tried it on a trip through mountains, and no more blue concrete! The concrete is actually grey again!

The ExpoDisc is so easy and fast to use, I wonder how I ever got along without it before. No more carrying around gray cards! Slap this baby in front of your lens, take a color balance reading, and everything turns out perfect. It saves me hours of post-processing color corrections when I shoot weddings, I'll get another one in case I ever lose this one!

I use it to set the white balance on my R-1 and my D-300. Real easy to use and fast on my two brand of cameras. I wish that I would have gone with the larger size disc, but I can still use the 67mm disc. According to the tutorials Cannon set is not as simple as the other two brands.
