The FUJIFILM FinePix XP100 Digital Camera is one tough camera, sporting "4-way protection"! Waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof, and dustproof, the XP100 is ideal if you're the active type or if you're simply in the habit of protecting your investments.
The camera can go down to 32.8' underwater, can survive a 6.6' drop, can operate in temperatures down to 14°F, and is impervious to dust - making it great on the beach! The XP100 also boasts a rubberized grip, a double lock battery compartment, an LED light, and a shockproof bumper. Adding to its "tough factor", the camera's 2.7" LCD has an anti-reflective coating for great visibility, even in direct sunlight.
In addition to capturing 14.4Mp stills, the XP100 also takes 1920 x 1080 HD video. Video recording features include a One Touch Movie Recording Button, the H.264 format, and of course, underwater movie recording. The camera also rocks 5x optical zoom to help its 28mm wide lens capture distant or near subjects. Another helpful feature is image stabilization, for clear, blur-free photos and videos, even at the full 5x zoom.
And while the XP100 might be tough, it's also a point-and-shoot, which translates into your ability to capture great photos without needing to have a photo degree. Numerous shooting modes take the guesswork out of shooting and let the camera do the heavy-lifting. Whether you're selecting from the 6 Scene SR AUTO modes or HDR or face detection, the XP has just about any shooting situation you might find yourself in, covered.
When you're done shooting and ready to share what you've shot, the XP100 helps you do that too. In-camera tagging lets you line up what you want to share when you finally do connect to a computer - movies or stills. MyFinePix Studio also helps you upload your memories by detecting new images to upload and starting automatically upon connection to your computer. Other post-production features include Photobook Assist, post capture photo and movie editing options, and a bevy of playback options.

We recently purchased the camera for our vacation to Mexico where we planned on doing alot of snorkling and wanted an underwater camera we could continue using in the future, rather than using the throw aways. Overall I was very pleased with the camera both normal pictures, and underwater. It took some experimenting with the settings to determine the best settings to use under different conditions, but once that was figured out, it took great pictures. The only issue I found was sometimes you had to press the power button several times to turn the camera on. You could feel it depress but no power? The other thing to watch for is water splashing on the lens. It doesn't hurt the camera, but you end up with water droplets in your pictures. And finally, a person I met down in Mexico with the same camera said we should rinse the camera off really well after use in saltwater because she had hers for about a year and was having difficulty with the buttons sticking and felt that the saltwater was the culpert.

I purchased this camera to go on vacation and was not satisfied with the performance. The shutter speed was slow-it took awhile to focus and as a result, I lost a lot of the shots I wished to get of the children. At times the picture would take but it was out of focus so I ended up with a fuzzy picture. If you want something simple and works most of the time pretty good, this is it. If you wish to have a more responsive camera, this is not it.

My family enjoys many outdoor experiences - the most recent being a hike through the Narrows down the Virgin River in Zion National Park. I had this same camera stolen earlier this summer [bummer], but I knew that when I was searching for a waterproof/shockproof/freeze-proof camera, I'd go back to this one. Great pictures, easy to use, truly waterproof (went diving up to 20 ft. with it in the Bahamas)... I look forward to using it snow skiing, too.
I think the shutter release is a little slow - especially when using a flash. This makes jumping pictures hard at first. ;-) Sometimes it has a hard time focusing too, but without a lens cover, this is to be expected as water drops and dirt might get on the lens.

Comments about FinePix XP100 Digital Camera (Black):
I have owned more than 15 cameras in the past 12 years and I have seen the good and not-so-good when it comes to camera features.
I do NOT want or need a GPS Geotagging receiver built into my camera. If I wanted GPS capabilities I would buy the GP-E2 GPS receiver for my Canon EOS 7D and be able to physically remove the GPS device when I don't need it.
I DO want and need a small rugged waterproof camera that will take decent underwater pictures and HD video in the pool or while snorkeling at the beach.
The Fujifilm FinePix XP100 fits my needs because because in my opinion: it is the best rugged, waterproof, point and shoot type camera still sold today (9/3/2012) that does not have a built in GPS receiver and Geotagging of photos.
It's enough that I am required to carry a company smart phone for my job and let my boss know the details of how and where I spend my day. However, when I go on vacation, I refuse to carry any device (including a smart phone) that will track my movements and tell others precisely where I went, where I spent my vacation, and where I took my pictures.
I have a friend who is an electronics engineer and works with electronics and firmware integration. He tells me: It's not enough just to shut the feature off, because if the device has the GPS hardware built into it, the GPS tracking can inadvertently be turned back on without the user knowing it; this is true of any digital device that has any hardware built into it; that can not be physically disconnected from the device.
I have always loved and sought out new technology and new camera features, but it is now getting to the point where the new technology makes me NOT want to buy the product. I certainly hope that Fujifilm sells enough of these FinePix XP100 cameras without built in GPS receivers; so that they will continue to manufacture them for a growing number of people who are concerned about their ever shrinking privacy in this world of new technology.

Excellent camera, I purchased it for the waterproof feather. I've had the opportunity to use this camera several times in pools and in salt water. The photos came out GREAT, no complaints. Excellent under water photos. One thing, always rinse the camera off with water once your done, it'll last longer. Unbeatable pricing and shipping. Battery died out after 1 1/2 hours of usage, buy a spare.
