The FUJIFILM FinePix HS25EXR Digital Camera has many qualities comparable to high-end DSLR cameras. From a powerful 30x zoom lens with manual focus to an electronic viewfinder to full 1080p HD video capture, the HS25EXR is one budget-friendly camera that's out to impress. When you add in the copious amount of auto shooting modes, and creative functions, like Fuji's Film Simulation mode, the 25EXR is more than worthy of your attention. What's more, it's powered by AA batteries - a readily available power source that's both economical and easily obtained.
The f/2.8 24mm Super EBC Fujinon lens gives you a 35mm equivalent focal range of 24-720mm. That large range gives you the flexibility to shoot everything from 1cm Super Macro images to far, far-off telephoto subjects. The lens also sports a manual zoom barrel to make the most of the 30x telephoto optical zoom range. The camera also sports 60x Intelligent Digital Zoom, which is controlled by the Fn (Function) button. Additional highlights of the lens include an 11 group and 15 element configuration with a Super Electron Beam Coating (EBC) which reduces ghosting, flare, and purple fringe.
The HS25EXR, of course, also features image stabilization for clear shots that are free from the effects of hand-shake. The CMOS Shift stabilization works together with a high ISO for great shots, even at the full 30x zoom. Advanced Anti Blur (in EXR AUTO mode) provides an added boost by using Multi Frame technology to layer 4 shots into a single, blur-free image. None of this would mean much however, if it weren't for the 16Mp 1/2" BSI EXR CMOS sensor, which can be considered the heart of the camera. According to FUJIFILM, this sensor is effectively three sensors in one, providing high resolution, wide dynamic range, and high sensitivity and low noise. Helping the sensor out would be the EXR processor. This dual CPU/EXR Core tool efficiently processes files and powers features like Intelligent Scene Recognition, fast start-up, and others.
As previously mentioned, the HS25EXR has an electronic viewfinder, in addition to a 3.0" tilting LCD monitor. The viewfinder features an Eye Sensor which automatically switches the display from the LCD to the viewfinder when you bring the camera to your eye. The tilting 3.0" LCD boasts the ability to angle high (45° downward angle) and low (90° upward angle) for more flexible shooting. It also has a high 1:1100 contrast and features Sunlight Mode for accurate viewing, even in bright conditions. Additional LCD features include the histogram display, vector graphics, and the direct shooting command buttons to the left of the screen.
Other design considerations include a one-touch movie record button, for no-fuss video capture, angled mode and command dials, a rubber coating for a secure grip on the camera, and the Fn button, which can be programmed for shortcuts to frequently used functions. The camera also has an easy access memory slot that accepts the compatible SD/SDHC and SDXC memory cards needed for recording files. Even when the HS25EXR is mounted to a tripod, the slot can be accessed. In addition, optional accessories, such as a lens hood, remote release, and compatible TTL flashes can be added to the camera as well for even more versatility when shooting.
Along with a bevy of auto shooting functions - most notably all those that fall under the EXR AUTO mode - the HS25EXR also gives you the option to utilize bracketing functions. Film Simulation Bracketing, AE Bracketing, and Dynamic Range Bracketing all give you more opportunities to nail the shot. Film Bracketing will produce PROVIA, Velvia, and ASTIA styled shots - that have the look of Fuji's famed films - while AE Bracketing captures three frames with varying exposure ranges. Dynamic Range Bracketing produces three images, each in a different dynamic range (100%, 200%, and 400%). Numerous other modes - such as Motion Panorama 360, Pro Focus mode with face detection, and Pro Low-Light mode - also enhance the benefits of this camera as well.
3 Aspherical Lenses - For Rich Resolution and a Compact Form: By using 3 high-performance aspherical lenses, the FinePix HS25EXR delivers sharp image quality with rich resolution. These lenses also contribute to a more compact overall lens configuration
ED Lens - Removing all Color Fringing Even at High Magnification: One ED lens has been employed for their low dispersion and effective reduction of chromatic aberrations. By preventing color fringing and reducing contrast, the FinePix HS25EXR lens captures images with superb accuracy across the zoom range from wide-angle to telephoto
Super EBC - Aiming for High Quality Images: All the lens elements used in the FinePix HS25EXR have been treated with multilayer Super EBC (Electron Beam Coating), the same process used for Fujinon broadcasting video lenses and large-format camera lenses acclaimed by professionals. Reducing ghosting and lens flare, the treatment promises clear image quality
Advanced Anti Blur In EXR AUTO mode, Advanced Anti Blur selects optimum sensitivity and harnesses responsiveness of the BSI EXR CMOS sensor, using Multi Frame technology to layer four consecutive frame shots at high speed into a single, sharp, blur-free image with remarkably low noise, even at telephoto zoom settings
EXR Technology - 16Mp BSI EXR CMOS Sensor: The 1/2" BSI (Back Side Illuminated) EXR CMOS sensor combines an impressive 16Mp of high-resolution image quality with exceptionally responsive performance. Fujifilm's proprietary pixel and color filter arrays enhance both vertical and horizontal resolution, which is the key to 3-way capture technology that ensures the best image quality for every scene. Dynamic range has been expanded to 1600%, achieving a new level of imaging performance.
The BSI structure results in improved light reception for a significant boost in sensitivity, with available settings up to ISO 128000 for S size files. An optimized signal read-out configuration significantly reduces in-sensor noise, achieving a further significant reduction in signal-to-noise ratio. The CMOS format also achieves higher readout speeds and faster image processing, enabling 8fps high-speed continuous shooting at full 16Mp resolution
Three-Sensors-In-One:
High Resolution: Just as your eyes see even the tiniest of details when looking at something in good light, HR (High Resolution) mode maximizes the full 16Mp resolution of the FinePix HS25EXR to reproduce even the smallest details in bright, beautiful color
Wide Dynamic Range: Just as your eyes see the full range of shadows to highlights in high-contrast scenes, DR mode simultaneously captures two images to produce a single image with significantly enhanced dynamic range, revealing subtle details in shadow and eliminating washout of bright areas
High Sensitivity and Low Noise Just as your eyes strive to make dark scenes as bright and detailed as possible, SN mode takes advantage of high-sensitivity to capture smooth texture and natural brightness with minimal noise
HD Movie + EXR High Sensitivity: The BSI EXR CMOS sensor maximizes high-sensitivity performance to capture stunning movies, even in challenging lighting conditions
HD Movie + Film Simulation: Add atmospheric effects to your movies with a choice of Film Simulation modes, including B/W and sepia
HD Movie + 30x Manual Zoom: From 24mm wide-angle to 720mm telephoto, dynamic zoom effects add impact to your movies. In addition to responsive auto focus, a manual focus option lets you fine-tune any scene
HD Movie + HDMI Port: A built-in HDMI port makes it easy to show movies and photos on your widescreen HDTV
High-Speed Image Search: The EXR Processor powers an array of sophisticated high-speed picture search and sorting functions
Vector GUI: A Vector Graphics Accelerator is responsible for crisp, highly legible menus and information readouts on the graphic user interface and pleasant viewing on your HDTV
Responsive Start-Up and Processing Performance: Thanks to the powerful EXR processor, the FinePix HS25EXR wakes in approximately 0.8 seconds. In addition to quick start-up and faster focusing, waiting time after continuous shooting sequences has been reduced by as much as half compared to conventional models. That means the HS25EXR is ready to go back to work almost immediately
High-Speed Continuous Shooting: Capture the action at 8 frames per second in full 16 megapixel resolution. At 8Mp (M size), burst sequences can be shot at 11 frames per second. Each frame can be viewed as a single shot or the entire burst sequence can be viewed in a separate window. In the case of pictures taken in continuous shooting mode, only the first frame of each series will be displayed. Press the selector down to view the other pictures in the series
High-Speed Movie: Sometimes things happen too fast for you to see them properly with your own eyes. The FinePix HS25EXR can freeze the action at up to an amazing 320fps! So you can see every single minute detail and watch things happening step by step in slow motion
160° Wide Angle: Viewable at up to 160° in both the vertical and horizontal directions
High Contrast LCD with Sunlight Mode: The high-contrast (1:1100), high-resolution 3.0" LCD screen features Sunlight Mode for clear viewing, even in bright outdoor conditions
Vector Graphics: The updated GUI (graphic user interface) incorporates flash technology, adding an intuitive and entertaining dimension to searching and displaying photos and accessing features. And a new font display technology produces menus and icons that are easy on the eye
Histogram Display: Enthusiasts will appreciate real-time confirmation of brightness levels and exposures settings
ISO Button: Adjust the ISO sensitivity setting for superb performance in low light with minimal noise

Better and fast focus than my coolpix P500
Manual zoom (will save battery).
30X Zoom great but use a tripod.
Battery AA are great so you don't have to buy extra.
Memory card slot located inside the grip so you don't have to open the battery compartment anymore to replace the memory card.
Solid construction.
Great colors and super macro photos, not very lucky with weather for the pass 2 weekends to go out and try outdoors.
This camera is away better than all the previous I had from NIKON,5700,P5100,P500.
Cons: only the cover so far on the battery compartment moves a bit,
but after batteries installed not so much.
will be great for Fuji to add RAW files

Manual zoom is the reason this camera was purchased along with the good name of the fuji brand.
What I like a little less is that it seems cameras (all brands) are taking too much control away from the user with their "smart" auto settings. You want a *smart* auto setting, that's fine but also include a good ol' fashioned plain auto setting. I don't like software matrixes making decisions for me.

I use my HS25 for all types of photography I tend to shoot nature, birds, sunsets, sunrises, foliage, close up of Butterflies, dragonflies, flowers, I've taken lots of pictures of people even shot a wedding for a friend. Haven't yet found a situation the camera couldn't handle and get excellent pictures. The pictures are sharp and clear, focus is fast, burst mode is great for action. Simply a great camera with great versatility, lots of functions and all of it right out of the box with nothing else needed as add ons. bought mine from B & H got it quickly and it was in perfect condition (I have ordered three cameras from B & H and all came quickly and were in perfect condition) Love the manual functions, manual lens, external buttons for main camera functions makes using these fast and easy. I've owned it since late October and have found nothing I don't like about it yet. I owned the Hs20 before this one and it too was a great camera and the HS25 is even better. As I say I love the camera can't say enough good things about it Easy to use and takes great pictures, with great color. Love that it used AA batteries, I use the rechargables most of the time, but when I go on vacation I use the non rechargable advanced Lithium batteries and they can last up to 3 weeks (and I take a lot of pictures)

This camera is awsome. it is user frendly to the inexperienced like me and has some really advanced features for the more experienced fotografer to use. Which I am going to learn. I fell in love wit it the first day, got some fantastic fotos, transfered to my pc with ease and now I am going to learn how to do the more advanced stuff. like 36o panoramic!

I purchased this camera for use when a DSLR is not needed. My first outing was to the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. I have shot the NAIAS for the last 13 years, so I know exactly how to manually set a camera to obtain outstanding pictures.
I have to say that the camera performed extremely well. When I viewed my pictures at home on my computer I was surprised at the outstanding color, contrast and sharpness that the camera produced. Most of the pictures merely needed a quick unsharp mask (for printing purposes) and that was the only editing done.
I also took a few pictures outside at the Detroit waterfront and the zoom was outstanding. The pictures taken were also crisp and clear and produced excellent color and contrast.
I took over 555 pictures during the day using rechargeable NiMH batteries and the low battery level never came on. There are plenty of more pictures on the charge even after over 500 taken.
All in all, this will be a great camera to take out and about when a DSLR is not needed, but where I can still produce excellent pictures under a variety of conditions.

We were looking for a nice affordable camera that had the ability to shoot great pics in action. This is not the camera for the job. The auto focus is terrible and we eneded up trading in for a less expensive finepix 4500 that was much more capable for the fast shots.

I am very much still in the "getting to know you" phase with my new FinePix, but so far so good. The camera weight appears to be my biggest adjustment, and that is a big one. Having spend the past 6 years with my FinePix s5200, the camera is both familiar and unfamiliar - but the manual is easy to read and my test shots please me so far.

It is way too early for me to accurately review this camera, but first impression: It's solid, versatile, high quality and for me it is a good "transition" camera from the simpler point-and-shoot camera to the more intricate, higher functioning models. I have a lot to learn and I think this camera will get me started.

Having been an enthusiast photographer since the 70's with a manual Praktica and a 80-300 manual Soligor zoom, I introduced myself to the digital photo a while ago, starting with the Lumix LZ8 and the fantastic Canon Powershot A590 IS. I must confess I a crash on AA batteries cameras with total manual controls. Had a lot of fun with wonderful and sharp images from the A590IS, but always missed a longer zoom and better pictures in low natural light scenes(no flash). After quite a research on the new technologies, I decided to buy a bridge camera with a long zoom and very good performance at low light...and my choice was the Finepix HS25EXR. The choice was based on my specific needs, above as well as budget and no need for RAW files, I have been using it for a couple of weeks and I couldn't have chosen another camera to fullfil my specs...it has a outstanding image quality in any light condition and the manual zoom is in fact an added value helping to save battery juice. I use NIMH Imedion batteries with 2400mAh that easily deliver around 450 shots and 7 to 10 Full HD videos before a new recharge. The EXR sensor performs wonderfully and delivers outstanding quality shots even in Auto mode. The zoom was another good surprize when fully extended at 30X and with the camera hand held. This is the camera I always needed and it's much better than I ever dreamed with. Still finding my ways through Manual Focus, EXR options, external and slave flashes usage ...etc.
In summary I have got all of the performance of a DSLR, not having to carry the extra lenses, and did not spend such a pile of money.

I had a Fujifilm Finepix S9000 prior to this camera and when it broke after six years, I chose this new camera mainly for its long zoom. The 30x optical zoom is great and then you have the 60x digital zoom. The zoom barrel does not seem to rotate as smoothly as my other camera. I like this larger LCD. There are so many options to choose from when taking a photo though and the directions are not really clear on some of them, so I am still learning it. It seems to overexpose in the Auto modes so I set it up to take three photos with one of them being underexposed by three steps. The macro feature works well. I haven't had a chance to take any photos of people yet, as my husband does not want to "model" for me.

I stepped up in terms of skill level in purchasing this camera but am very pleased with the purchase thus far. The various "auto" features have allowed me to take great pictures in a variety of situations without the "user" getting in the way. My son and I are excited to explore the manaul settings and expand our ability to take pictures in a variety of settings and/or effects. Only had it for a few weeks but get the sense this is a camera we can grow with for some time. Got a great deal at B&H and shipping was right on time.

Comments about Fujifilm FinePix HS25EXR Digital Camera (Black):
The only thing really separating the HS25EXR from DSLR's that cost much more is the fact that this camera does not have interchangeable lenses. It basically has all the mode options and composition controls you would expect from a full-blown DSLR. But almost no one needs lenses beyond what the HS25EXR has - 24mm-720mm (the 35mm equivalent). A pro might want more but this camera exceeds what even an avid amateur requires. From super-macro to high-zoom, no lens change is even needed. For the money, this camera really delivers! This is my second Fuji camera in a row, and they definitely produce the best product in the price range. Yes, the battery cover moves a bit under pressure, so what? Ignore the negatives about that... it has no effect and doesn't come loose. The LCD screen is fantastic, even in bright light. The range of controls (auto - manual) is fantastic. The camera is very light and does not become annoying when carrying it for long periods. Battery life is quite good. I like Fuji's method of menuing and this camera is no exception. I just wish (and it isn't just Fuji at fault), that the camera came with a proper, printed user manual, instead of a quick-start guide and the full manual on CD. This is not a point-and-shoot camera and the manual is a necessity, so you must print it out your own. I use this camera for everything from macro shots of flowers, frogs and hobby models to long-distance mountains and landscapes. In other words, everything! It does everything extremely well. And then... it lets you take really nice HD videos too! This is a camera everyone should consider if they don't actually NEED a high-end DSLR!

I've only been using the FinePix HS25EXR camera for a couple of weeks, so these are my preliminary thoughts about it. So far I like it a lot. I wanted a bridge camera with a powerful zoom. I like that it takes AA batteries, as I already have too many devices I need to remember to re-charge.
I have never been entirely comfortable with the menu items on any of the digital cameras I've owned, and the HS25EXR is no exception. However, I've managed to navigate to the commands I need. There are so many options for adjusting the exposure etc... that it is a bit over whelming, so I stick with the basic auto for now. I've been pleased with the quality of the images.
That's it for now. As I get more experience with the camera, I'll try to post an update to this review.

About Fujifilm cameras Finepix HS25EXR and Finepix HS30EXR
Although both cameras Fujifilm Finepix HS25 EXR and Fujifil Finepix HS30 EXR are almost similar, I purchased the first one not because I wanted to spare $100, but because I liked its batteries: standard 2AA rechargeable Ni-Mh.
I chose between Fujifilm Finepix and Canon Power Shot SX40HS or Nikon Coolpix P510, Fujifilm even the other two cameras have a longer optical zoom: Canon 40, Nikon 41,7 and Fuji 30, because:
- Fuji has external flesh, and Nikon hasn't.
- Fuji works with standard batteries and Canon and Nikon do not.
- Fuji has a wider diapason of shutter speed and aperture.
- Fuji has a larger sensor which gives a better dynamic range, and against Canon, has more pixels.
- Fuji camera is a more versatile than Canon or Nikon. It has a lot of features, more than you will need.
- Fuji uses a new sensor called EXR which is said to work better than other sensors, although I cannot confirm this.
- Fuji has manual zoom ring, instead of electric zoom, which is more convenient, more professional like and gives longer battery life.
- Fuji has a 58 mm thread so you can add filters or a teleconverter, the others do not have.
- Fuji gives you the possibility to shoot in 3D. I made a test and received a perfect 3D picture. No other camera does this. I was amazed.
I can not compare image quality of cameras because I do not have Canon and Nikon cameras, but I do not expect any conspicuous difference.
For all these, I think that the Fujifilm Finepix HS25EXR, or HS30EXR are today the best bridge SRL-like cameras in the market. Their prices are reasonable.
What I do not like to these Fuji cameras:
- Awful instruction booklet, HS25EXR dos not have at all. Its booklet is in the CD.
- Fujifilm does not have an exposure live view. So you can not see on the LCD what the final picture will look like (how light or dark it will be) before you actually take the shot.
- The image stabilization is not too good, although I do not know how good is in Canon or Nikon cameras especially at lower speeds or in high zooms when it is needed more.

I have just started to play with my new camera. I am going to Montana in a week and can give you a better review when I return. So far, I like the instruction book and ease of using the camera. More when I return. A good friend that knows cameras and my ability (beginner) recommended this camera:)
