The khaki Earth Explorer National Geographic 2476 Medium Messenger Bag from National Geographic is a real shooter's bag. Not only will it hold your DSLR with two lenses, flash and accessories but it will also accommodate your 15.4" laptop in a separate, padded compartment. Or, if you're a video enthusiast, it will accept your camcorder and media accessories. In either instance, this bag is made to be used - day after day - with confidence.

The cotton hemp exterior and padded interior guard your gear well, while a zippered front flap protects the contents from the vagaries of weather. There's a handy removable interior insert that can be used to pre-pack gear or be removed entirely to create extra space inside the bag. For accessories, there is a large front zippered pocket for everything from your phone to pens, business cards, map or small flashlight. In addition, there are two additional smaller touch fastened pockets located on the main flap that are there for small, quick access items. The bag seals via a durable zipper and two snap loops. It's carried by its non-removable shoulder strap or top grab handle. It's also designed with a rear trolley sleeve that can be used with a user-supplied trolley.

Comments about Earth Explorer National Geographic 2476 Medium Messenger Bag (Khaki):

I've been searching for the perfect bag for years, and have gone through quite a variety of (ultimately failing) contenders in my quest for it.

My needs: a nice looking bag, relatively light (for leisure travel), protective of my gear, that can carry a Tamron 70-200 2.8 mounted to a Nikon D7000, a speed light, some cleaning stuff including a rocket blower, a charger, some SD cards and either a fast prime (50mm 1.4) or a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. I want to be able to ditch the 70-200 and not feel like the bag is far to large for the payload.

Well, here is my winner...sort of.

The camera-holding-and-protecting insert that comes with this bag does not serve my needs. Maybe if I needed to carry my DSLR with a small prime (maybe you could also fit a flash in there, not sure)...but those are not my needs.

So, I put the supplied camera-holding bag in my closet and raided the removable photo-equipment insert from my Vanguard Uprise 33 and Voila! My favorite bag is created. (You may want to consider another photo equipment bag insert---I just happend to have the Vanguard bag to raid)

The bottom of the bag (even without my newly-added insert) is nicely padded, as is the back of the bag. The front: not so much...or even at all, but that is where a padded insert comes in to save the day (along with providing stability and separation for the gear).

The bag, as modified, holds everything I need, looks and feels good, is of good quality and is an acceptable weight. I am selling my other bags on a popular auction site.

If Nat Geo kitted this bag with the insert that I described, this bag would be absolutely awesome. As it is, it is pretty darn good.
