I'm a photographer, so I store all my photos on 2 different passports just in case. We do a lot of traveling so it's a convienent way to bring along all my files. Best part, there is a hard protective case available as assories for this passport. The case is heavy duty, says you can drop it from 7 feet and still not injure the passport, it's water resistant, too. Great combo. Also purchased one for our camera club, it's great for archiving all the accepted photos for the end of the year photo show.

Purchased to use as a backup drive, as it was designed. Not impressed with the software supplied on the Western Digital website, it caused conflicts with existing devices on my Win 8 notebook. Had to uninstall and then manually remove any reference to the passport in the system registry. The automated uninstall process left a great deal of dirt behind. Still wound up performing a system restore to a pre-passport install date to regain acceptable pc functionality. I reformatted the Passpoort and use it with the native Win 8/7 backup program. It works fine that way, and I would encourage future purchasers of this item to do the same. Update the firmware on the Passport when you receive it and be happy with that. For a product produced by Western Digital, I was surprised to have experienced these issues and pretty disappointed with how far below my expectations it fell.

Very compact, reliable backup for my laptop. Good to put financial data on and storing in secure location. I also keep a cloned backup of my hard drive that I made shortly after a clean install of the OS and major apps. This facilitates a reload. With a Terabyte of storage, it provides the capacity for a wide range of storage schemes, and at a bargain price.

Use this product as a backup storage.
WD Software (Security, Utility, etc.) can be downloaded from their official website.
Thus, I don't see a reason to buy this over WD Elements if your choice is 1TB version.
WD Elements's maximum capacity is 1TB.
Thus, if you want bigger capacity other than 1TB, you have to go with WD My Passport series.
Also, I heard people say that the hard drive inside has ONLY native USB3.0 support.
That means, you can NOT take the hard drive out and use it as an internal hard drive. (This is learnt from the Internet, NOT unverified by me.)

This has turned out to be a great product. The physical size is just right, not too large to restrict it to one place and not small enough to get lost.
