The Western Digital 4TB My Book Thunderbolt Duo is a dual-drive storage system with two Thunderbolt ports capable of up to 10 Gb/s data transfer rates. The system supports user-selectable RAID 0 and RAID 1 modes, as well as JBOD modes. Plus, since Thunderbolt ports are bidirectional, they afford high-speed multitasking. You can also daisy chain multiple devices or peripherals using the two Thunderbolt ports for better efficiency and productivity. Comments about Western Digital 4TB My Book Thunderbolt Duo Dual-Drive Storage System:
I acquired this product for one purpose and one purpose only -> To import raw video files for editing and not having the import footage backed up by Time Machine on my user drive.
Although Time Machine can "exclude" certain files and folders from backup and I'm not too concerned about raw imported video, I still would like to be able to keep the footage as long as needed with a backup option and setting this drive to RAID 1 allows me to do just that.
Pros:
Fast
Quiet
Reliable
Cons:
No aftermarket icon (.icns) file available from WD so an Orange generic thunderbolt logo appears. (Can't find one online anywhere)

Comments about Western Digital 4TB My Book Thunderbolt Duo Dual-Drive Storage System:
After receiving my duo, it did not pass all the integrity tests and would not format as two separate drives. I called technical support and got a person with no knowledge who constantly was referring to his supervisor. I asked to speak to the supervisor and was told the best thing they could do was refer me to tier 2 technical support who "might call me back on Monday" (I called on Friday). I insisted in talking to the supervision and was then abruptly transferred to an American at corporate headquarters. Thing went rapidly uphill after that. It seems one of the disks became unseated during shipping and after I removed both disks and reinstalled them the unit started to work as advertised. The unit is fast and QUIET. I think I will like it (time will tell) but am a little hesitant because of the bad start. Western Digital should be ashamed of outsourcing primary technical support to such a bad outfit. KEEP IT HOME LIKE APPLE DOES.

Comments about Western Digital 4TB My Book Thunderbolt Duo Dual-Drive Storage System:
Unpacked it and was immediately pleased with the design. I hooked it up with the Thunderbolt cable to an iMac 27"(3.4gHz,16gigram,1tb HD). It came online without further ado and has worked flawlessly since. I use it for video editing with FCP X using XDCAM HD footage. The increase in speed from using a macPro(2.4gz,8gig ram,250MB) with dual external G-Raid drives was rather dramatic. It makes video editing a pleasure. It also makes handling Aperture and Lightroom 4 photo programs a nice experience.
