I've installed this as part of the AV equipment at my church, so that we can record sermons and choral programs.

It is exactly what I wanted, has many options for inputs and is easy to use.

It records onto a USB flash drive making it easy to upload the sermons to the church's website.

It records at three levels of MP3 compression, or WAV format. So we can create small sermon files or record in high quality for music programs.

It only records a single stereo channel, but that is all we need.

This unit is NOT engineered to record a monaural signal. It creates dual tracks even when set to mono, thus doubling the file size. The mfr's engineers confirmed that this is normal operation. Also, the SD and USB slots are loose and the unit often fails to recognize that the media is installed. Manual is inadequate and largely unhelpful when attempting to troubleshoot. Had to return the unit.

Comments about Gemini DRP-1 Rackmount Digital Audio Recorder:

This item was purchased for our Church sound system to provide digital files to upload to our website, distribute to shutin members and etc. Product was pretty straight forward to setup,Out of the box to recording in just a few minutes. Provides good quality sound even on the lowest MP3 settings. Our sound systen is operated by numerous different Volunteers which many have limited to no previous experience in sound mixing and recording, but they all adapted very quickly to this recorder. Down side is very limited documentation for the product. If you would have any issues nothing much more than the very basics is covered. Even such things as setting the time and date which is used on the saved files is not addressed. All that being said I would recommend this recorder as a good purchase for someone looking for an inexpensive digital recorder.

Serves the purpose. Very easy to handle, simply plug and play. Digital input via XLR, 1/4 jack and RCA. Very nice and smooth recording quality of mp3 @ 320 bit rate. I would definitely recommends to those who are in need of recording a live gig.

I use this recorder at our church and it works great!! This is my second unit. The first one survived 3 years of a sound system setup and tear down every week. We now have a permanent location, so I expect this one to last longer.

Comments about Gemini DRP-1 Rackmount Digital Audio Recorder:

I bought this item in November 2012 here in Sydney. It was quite easy to install and operate and the recordings that it produced were very good. However, a few months ago, the input level wheel stopped working and all my recordings were badly distorted. I took it back to the seller for warranty service and it worked beautifully again. Sadly, this week, the recording input wheel stopped working again. It is beyond the warranty period so I don't know what to do. Maybe, I'll have to look for another recorder. In summary, this item is good but not reliable.

This unit is cut and dry it does what it is supposed to do. I purchased this unit back in May of this year, after months of research I decided to buy it,
originally it was under the name Ikey, this is one great unit no problems at all so far just have to set the rec levels right before recording. I have a high end recorder but don't want to take it on the road with me, this unit does the same thing just no bells or whistles, and at a nice price...

Comments about Gemini DRP-1 Rackmount Digital Audio Recorder:

I'm using this to replace a CDR-Music recorder in a church setting. It was time to make the move to digital for our sermon library.

However, I'm not sure why the industry hasn't been able to create a rack mount digital recorder that's the quality of a DR-40 or H2 but not the price of a studio apartment. This is a decent box, but it's noisy... I've used the Tascam DR-40 for quite awhile and have never had the digital noise I encountered here. I reached out to the only email address on Gemini's support page a few days ago and have heard nothing back. I'll repost if they do.

When you power off, all settings go back to default (except the volume level, weird). I wish it would stay as MP3 mono instead of dropping back to WAV.

The transfer via the backdoor USB works fine. I wish you could keep it plugged into the computer and constantly dump files, once you disconnect after the transfer, you have to unplug or restart.

It does distort quite easily as another review said. I've got the volume turned completely down, gain set at mid and I'm running thru a compressor to keep the volume at a usable level.

In short, it's fine, but it's not great... and that's irritating.

Comments about Gemini DRP-1 Rackmount Digital Audio Recorder:

I use this product to record lectures and wanted to record straight to mp3 for easy upload with no editing. With various volunteers' helping, I didn't want a handheld or laptop. So far so good: sound quality is good and operation is simple. I would give 5 stars but the lcd window is a bit out of alignment with the case. If you have a lot of music files to playback, an laptop or phone would be easier to use. Also, it would also be a boon to have a remote for it so you could begin recording while at, say a mixer instead of walking to the rack to punch record.
Overall, it's the easiest, cheapest way to get an mp3 recorder in your rack if you don't want to use a laptop but do want good sound.
