While its not the quality of a dslr, the P310 is more like a 'real' camera than any point and shoot I have ever used. Nikon has done a good job laying out the controls and making a camera that makes sense to a photographer. Being able to control everything from fill flash to focus, not to mention manual exposure and color correction, helps overcome many of the shortcomings of this camera. The lens is good and doesn't sport the ridiculous zoom of most point and shoots. That said, I do wish there was a better sensor in this camera. While it does very good in normal lighting conditions, its low light capabilities are limited and the sensor is a bit small, offsetting its fast lens. The lack of raw is also a problem though not as much as I had imagined. If you don't expect it be a dslr the p310 is a lot of fun to use.

Overall, very good feel and the manual controls are nice. I am still getting all the menus down and where everything is but for the price this camera cannot be beat for a tiny pocket-able camera. The biggest downside for me is no viewfinder, but i knew that going in. It would still be nice to have though.

This small camera has a lot to offer, with a variety of automatic and manual operating modes that will serve a wide range of applications. The physical controls and electronic menus have an easy-to-use and intuitive feel. A really great value for the price. My only complaints: the battery level indicator does not accurately reflect the remaining charge and recharging requires that the camera get plugged into an outlet. I often use the camera for video recordings and the battery power doesn't last very long. Other than that, it seems like an excellent camera. I recommend buying additional batteries and the Nikon external charging unit for applications that require longer usage times.

I am not a professional with cameras but this camera makes professional photos easy. It has all the bells and whistles of a professional camera, with the ability to just point and click if needed. I am particularly interested in the panoramic assist option, which is what convinced me to buy in the first place.B&H was recommended to me by a friend who is more of a professional photographer. He only shops for camera equiptment from this site and now I see why. It was very easy to compare and read reviews and figure out which camera suited my lifestyle. I got my camera quickly with excellent customer service.

I read a number of on-line reviews and decided that I would pickup the P310 due to the 24mm Wide Angle, decent Manual controls, size, and fast f/1.8 lens. I was stunned by the previews that I immediately saw on the display and then further impressed by the jpegs on my laptop later that evening. The color rendition is excellent and the images exhibit extremely low (not evident) noise. I have been carrying the camera with me everywhere for the last few weeks and the smiles keep coming. I would recommend this camera to anyone! The only two features that I wish were available on the camera would be RAW images as well as an accessory shoe. A+ product!

I am a Nikon fan and this camera falls in line with my love for them.
Patrol officers can use this camera with ease in the "Auto" mode and experiment with scenes and even manual mode.
I have trained all my officers for night shots and outfitted their cruisers with tripods. The manual mode will keep an open shutter for a max of 8 seconds which is plenty of time to use ambient light or add some with a flashlight.
I do NOT like the fact the battery needs charged through the camera itself. That takes it out of service for charging. It is user friendly though.

Switched from the Lumix (tired of crud in the lenses) to this and I love the feel, functions, and size. 2 things: Manual lift flash (?!), and I'm not so sure yet about its color reading. Compared to the Lumix the colors aren't quite there. More research is needed on my end.
Otherwise, excellent (albeit a little too easy to switch into movie mode from photo mode).

bought it to throw in a pocket to always have a small, inconspicuous, camera with me; has M, A, S, P options, fast lens, fill-flash, slow sync, rear-curtain sync, macro, manual focus, 18 scene types, 9 special effects, shooting menu has most of what slr's have; perfect choice (good size for a woman's hands too)..

Our 16 year old son received P310 as Christmas gift from his grandparents, at my suggestion. He is an avid photgrapher from Kodak Easyshare to lately using (taking over) my Nikon P7000. He takes 100's of photos of friends, airplanes, videos, etc. Lens is sharp, photos are great. I think lens may be better than P7000. We are now a "Nikon" family and familiar with the Nikon controls, so the P310 is a sort of smaller P7000. Lens is very good in low light. Video is very good and surprises me how sharp it is with good focus control. The Nikon mode selections are similar to P7000, but not as extensive (and don't need to be). He has consistently great photos in daylight to night time, still to action, in house, outside, etc. Flash is very good, when needed, but you can go with ambient low light if camera is held steady. Nice control of exposure, focus, and light with metering system and adjustment/bias features. Photos can be edited on the camera which is really neat.On negative side: there are not any significant issues for a $[$] camera. Battery poops out too quickly, but is adequate. This is surprising since battery is pretty big. Can be solved with spare Nikon battery and Pearstone? charger. Shutter lag is a little long, but much better than most P&S. It is easy enough to use, IF you are used to the sometimes annoying Nikon system. (Its a great system once learned). Zoom range is limited, BUT this camera has very good wide angle and extended long zoom is not of much value for little P&S. Overall: WOW! There is a difference when you get a Nikon "P" camera. It is an excellent camera with quality design and build. Our son likes it very much.

I have a D300 to use when I want to take serious photos but wanted something light & simple for pics of the grandkids, family , & other casual photography and to use for videos of our grand kids. It's really a great point & shoot camera that takes excellent quality photos. The videos are not quite as good with some static in the audio.

I bought this camera before a recent trip to Peru. The main intention is for digiscoping (attaching camera to spotting scope) of birds. I was also able to get good pictures of butterflies as well as landscape pictures. Lots of features that I'm still learning to use. Turns on and ready to take pictures very quickly. I wish the battery life was a little longer.
