Passport? Check. Ten-language phrase book? Check. Nikon S9300 camera? Triple-check. Nikon's Coolpix S9300 Digital Camera (Black) was born to travel--with you. A 16MP CMOS sensor and a sharp 18x Nikkor 25-450mm (equivalent in 35mm format) in a tiny (2.5x4.3x1.3"/6.2x10.8x3.06cm) and featherweight (7.6 oz/214g) body = the ultimate compact travel camera.
The CMOS sensor gives you greatly improved low-light performance and reduced noise, and the 25-450mm lens can easily handle any situation you encounter, from ultra wide-angle landscape to portraits to unapproachable wildlife. Optical VR image stabilization keeps your photos rock solid, without any shaking or blurring, even using the longest telephoto settings, or in low-light, slow shutter speed situations. The high-resolution 921K-dot 3" monitor is crisp and clear, for composing and reviewing your images. Dazzling full 1080p HD video with stereo sound will bring your memories back in pristine condition (you can even take a still photo while shooting video). And the S9300 knows how to turn even dicey lighting situations into great images, with modes like Night Landscape, Night Portrait, and Backlighting HDR. A built-in neutral density filter gives you even greater latitude in daylight shooting.
Built-in GPS records your shooting locations and tracks the route you take. A map displays your current location while shooting, plus Points of Interest (POI) locations--an electronic compass displays the camera's orientation when the photo was taken and records the location for viewing later on your computer.
17 Scene modes provide optimal settings for common photographic subjects. In-camera processing offers you lots of creative choices without using image-processing software: filter effects like Nostalgic Sepia; High-Contrast Monochrome; Selective Color; High Key; Low Key; and Soft Effect; the ability to crop and re-size photos in-camera; D-Lighting for improving high-contrast scenes; and skin softening for improved portraits. The EXPEED C2 processor delivers improved image quality and processing speed. So, wherever you go with the S9300, there you are--ready to bring back great images, no matter what the conditions.

Things that are great:
Macromode (closeups)
Outdoor shots
Zoom (18x, wow) for a pocket-size camera
16MB, lot's of image data/quality
Great color
The location of the USB connection port
GEO tagging is nice
1080p with OK image stabilization (for a camera); but not as good as a camcorder with OIS
You can zoom and re-focus while recording video (not all cameras do that)
Easy to use menu system
Things that aren't so great:
Red-eye with flashes, understandable though, the flash is so close to the lense
Size, it's bordering on being too big to carry around, but it's still small enough that I purchased it (and carry it with me)
Flash pops up where some people but their left index finger (it's a little annoying but not a show stopper)
GEO tagging was turned off initially (silly)

I am still trying to find a pocket size camera for those times when I do not care to carry my DLSR. I was hoping this Nikon S9300 would do the job. Based on my first trials, here are the things I do not like.
1) For a 16 MP camera, I am only getting 3 to 5 MB of info per photo. Compare this to 5 to 7 MB of info with my old Canon G10. The Nikon gives me less to work with for cropping. So more MP does no result in higher quality image. Perhaps the Nikon sensor has less resolution.
2) Excessive noise above ISO 400.
3) No manual control over speed or aperture.
4) Very cumbersome menu control compared with Canon G10.
5) I hate going to my computer to get at the manual. For the money, Nikon should offer a printed manual.
6) Not a pleasure to use. I'll likely return it.
Things I like: None. I may just not be suited to using a point and shoot.
This camera takes the fun out of photography. I also miss my viewfinder.
So, I guess I'll just have to live with the larger size of an advanced camera like the Canon G12 or Fuji X10 or similar.

Comments about Coolpix S9300 Digital Camera (Silver):
I tend to use my phone camera more than my "good camera," but I need to have a good camera for special pix, and this one works for me. Not too expensive, but with lots of features. I'm still learning how to get good low-light pictures, but I haven't had the time to practice a lot, yet. Great videos so far, tho. Lots of camera in a small package.

I bought this unit on sale (great price) and my sister couldn't be happier. I have the s8100 and suggested this as it is similar but with better specs. She's gone through about 3 cameras in the last 2 years and this is her favorite. Between the great picture quality and image stablization its a great camera.

I've had this cam for only a month and used it only a few times for the holidays. I am having all kinds of serious problems. The flash will not pop up anymore, only once in a great while. One time the lens jammed which means I can't take any pictures and I spent a whole afternoon trying to get it to pop out. Also, pictures are to blurry. You really have to hold the camera super still to get a good shot. This thing has been nothing but a nightmare.

Good looking camera, very nice.
Working perfectly.
I tried to use under a low light environment, it still gives me an excellent clear picture without any additional setting.
Its zoom capability is another positive feature of this camera.

This camera is kinda slow to focus and shoot. Many times the focus is off, I'm a Cannon fan, but wanted to try Nikon point and shoot. But for the same price range Cannon is multiple times better.

I love this camera. I bought this to replace my older Nikon coolpix, which I also loved. This has a great zoom(18x). Its easy to use with a large viewing screen. Mode selector has icons on the dial to make it easier to select. I can't wait to try out the GPS feature.

I own 3. Each one is a different color. Mine is black, my wife's is Silver and my 10 year old's is Red. We can now all learn from each other, use the same cards, batteries, and manuals, and use this easy camera for maximum benefit. Quality of casing is sturdy, ease of use is awesome, and the effects settings are a lot of fun. Also, the movie camera is easy to use and has excellent clarity.

Appears to be a good solid camera. I got this for when I don't feel like carrying my D90 around. It is small and fits in my pocket, or I bought lanyard for around my neck.
I have yet to use it that much but the few pictures I tried, came out very nicely.
The videos are good a clear. One negative is the focus is slow and if the camera has to refocus during a video, the picture is blurred for a second .
