This TG-820 iHS Digital Camera (Black) from Olympus is built to take whatever you can throw at it--it goes underwater as deep as 33' (10 m), out in the cold weather to 14°F (-10°C), and even if dropped from a height of up to 6.6' (2.0 m), it keeps taking beautiful 12MP photos and dazzling 1080p HD video with its 5x wide-angle 28-140mm (equivalent) zoom lens. Using the brilliant 3" LCD monitor with 1030K dots of resolution, you can compose and view photos and videos. You can also create 3D photos, even underwater (viewable on a 3D device).
There's also Wi-Fi compatibility (with an optional Eye-Fi card) and Magic Filters (8 of them) that will help you find your inner artist. In-camera panoramic mode gives you a powerful creative tool, and the dual image stabilization keeps your photos looking sharp.

I take pictures and video on my daily beach walks and around the yard. Focus is simple. Menu is easy to understand and use. Video is just a button click. Big display is clean and bright. Photo and video quality are superb. Transfer to iPhoto is a snap. I really enjoy using this camera. The only thing that could be better is the zoom. The toggle seems a bit flimsy and stronger zoom capability would be welcome. Camera looks great. I put it in the water for one shot. No problem.

The recently released Olympus Tough TG-820 has been a huge disappointment to say the least. I purchased it for a trip that I took to the Caribbean, and I was angered beyond belief when the camera door opened up while I was shooting underwater! I was fly fishing for bonefish on a calm ocean flat in only in two feet of water when this occurred. Luckily the invaluable images on the memory card were saved, but the camera is completely dead. This happened on the first day of my trip, so I was without the ability to shoot underwater photos and video for the remaining 6 days!
This pains me a bit because I've been a huge fan of the Olympus underwater digital cameras from the day the first one was released. I own the original Olympus Stylus 770 (that still works) and has a SOLID closing system for the door. Two friends of mine own the follow-up Olympus Tough camera and have had the same wonderful photography results that I have experienced with the Stylus. They also have never had a problem with the door opening unexpectedly. Unfortunately, this new TG-820 is a weak follow-up to these cameras. The lock has NEVER failed on these previous models, but this new "dual lock" system on the TG-820 is a joke. All you have to do is accidentally brush against it and it unlocks. I have taken amazing photos over the years with the Stylus 770, but I wanted the ability to shoot 1080 HD underwater. The variety of waterproof cameras on the market that shoot HD is endless, but I stayed the course and went with what has been good to my underwater needs in the past. I "upgraded" to the TG-820. Big mistake.

Comments about Tough TG-820 iHS Digital Camera (Silver):
I bought the TG-820 for snorkel trips I had planned. I selected this camera because of the features and the price. Not only did it take excellent underwater pictures. Which was the main reason I bought it. But I found myself grabbing it instead of my "main" camera. The picture quality and settings are great. The fact that it is "tough" is a plus on vacatons. I didn't have to worry about sand or splashes. Just drop it in a pack or bag and you don't have to worry about it. A very good sturdy camera for outdoor activities.

Very nice camera that almost self-teaches how to use with the Menu system. I started using immediately out of box. I took it to Bahamas for some underwater snorkeling photos - fantastic clarity & ease of use - including underwater video with sound! Also like the slide-show playback feature where you may even superimpose different music clips. Scene selection technique is simple & worked well for night shots, sunsets, and as mentioned, underwater photos! Comes with all key accessories except memory card - don't forget to order one!

I bought this camera specially for scuba diving and it did the work. The camera is excellent for the price. May be a little slow when there is not so much light but at this prices is a great value. There faster and brighter cameras but much more expensive so this is an excellent. One thing if you buy this camera. Make all the adjustments above water because when you are 30ft under water, the pressure make changing the scene or removing the flash a little more difficult. The zoom and the other commands worked perfectly even under water pressure

I've been using this camera for canyoning. It's satisfactory. When it comes to changing shooting modes, it's too long and tedious for me. Especially when the action is seconds from happening. The one touch record button is sweet though! I am a professional photographer and would like a bit more control with the camera as everything is basically smart and mode settings. The only control you have is the ISO and exposure compensation in most shooting modes. Overall it's a good camera and probably one of the better ones in the tough camera market but in my opinion this market still has a ways to go when it comes to giving the user more control.

Love every part of it! Worked well at my wedding in Jamaica on the beach. Worked in the ocean just as well. I would buy the armband that keeps it boyent in the water, great investment if snorkling in water more than 30ft. No problems with the camera its self and took many amazing pictures with it! The only way to ruin the camera is to loose it! Liked the last modle as it had a complete metal shell and this one has plastic in it but still the toughest camera on the market, TESTED & PROVEN.

This camera is very light but strong as can be. I had a previous version of this camera from a few years ago. This model is faster lighter and better battery life. Also takes great pictures. The quick button for video is a great addition as well. Go from shooting pictures to capturing HiDef video in a snap. Love this camera. Have not taken it for a dive yet since its cold here now but soon I will take it for some scuba diving with the housing. Looking forward to that.

Just bought two of these for my sons for Christmas and so far I am as impressed with them as I have been with any Olympus product. I have a total of 6 Olympus cameras (point and shoot and DSLRs) and have been quite happy with most of them. PROS: Great big view screen, good resolution, and the waterproof and shock resistance features are perfect for two college kids. CONS: Wish it had a viewfinder and there is the drawback of most waterproof cameras that you have to open the sealed battery compartment door to charge the camera. Have to be careful not to break that little door off. We will have to see if the product lasts, but I don't think you can go wrong with this camera.

I had bought another camera wanting an underwater camera, I was extremely disapointed in that one so I decided to go with this camera and get an underwater housing for it. I have not used this camera underwater yet and if my opinion changes I'll change my review.. however the functions on this camera are amazing and there is even a mode that will automatically take a picture of your pet when it sees it face (although its not practical its amusing to use from time to time) - Anyways for what I am using this camera for it is amazing, its fast and even does panorammas! if your looking for more manual options this camera does get a little tricky but for your all purpose rugged point and shoot that you wont break when you drop in the lake? this is your next camera

While I was shooting on my vacation and trying to figure out the camera - all of the text on the screen became (I think) Polish - - and I don't understand Polish.
The camera is good - but not as good as its earlier version that I bought and loved but which had electrical problems
Also - the underwater macro setting set the pictures too dark for a reason I don't understand
Also - I thought it was 12 megapixels - but the camera set itself so the largest photo is only 4 megapixels and some are less than 1 megapixel which means I'm not getting the resolution I wanted for my photos.

I bought this camera for my wife to use snorkeling in Hawaii. I also intend to use it as a harsh environment pocket camera for hikes in the desert, rainstorms, and other situations where it's not practical or safe to use a DSLR.
Right away I discovered fun stuff i it like "sweep panorama" and settings that will take pictures of cat or dog faces automatically. I'm pretty sure the pets are sick of me by this time. Plus it's got a bunch of "magic" settings that are sort of like fun filters from Photoshop. The only things I didn't like about it were the little joystick OK button which was hard to manipulate at first with my stubby man fingers and the location of the lens which I kept sticking my stubby fingers in front of at first.

Pros;
The controls are intuitive and easy to find with your fingers. The "instant" video button is just perfect for going from pictures to video in a snap! The mic in the camera pics up sound very well, and it can zoom in while filming with no hesitation. There are more options for picture setup than you will probably ever use. The camera takes fast frame shots without any difficulty. I have a fast sd card in it and I'm sure that helps, but if I am not mistaken it is approx 5 frames a second. I used that mode and the images were sharp. Feels very solid in my hand. It just feels like it is made of solid steel! Best P&S I have owned!

Purchased when I was at Rocky Mountain National Park to take rafting but the rivers were closed due to the fires. Really like the quality of the pictures. Video is very good. Love the in camera panoramic feature. I shoot with FF and crop DSLR's and carry this along for some really fun shots. Going to take rafting in the Smokies in a few weeks so it will be tested. I wish the four way switch on the back was bigger but other than that this camera is a gem.

This camera is used to record aspects of law enforcement training. It takes an excellent picture and nice video. Purchased this instead of buying seperate digital photo and video cameras. If you are not hung up on changing lenses, I highly recommend giving this camera a try.
