After researching countless tripods under [$] I chose the Alta+ 264AB 100. I absolutely love this tripod. It's very stable and easily supports the weight of my camera and all the lenses I have. Very easy to use and is light enough to hike all day with it. I use it a lot at night and the only improvement I can think of is glow in the dark bubble levels!

Comments about Vanguard Alta+ 264AB 100 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head:

I love this tripod! Light enough to carry on a long hike, folds down small enough to pack into a duffel bag, and supports the weight of my Nikon D600. I use this also in conjunction with a Vanguard Tracker 4 tripod to support a motion rail slider for timelapse photography. Wonderful support, and the levels are helpful too. Excellent pricing for what you get. I can't see spending two or three times as much on other tripods when the Vanguard Alta is as good as it is.

Comments about Vanguard Alta+ 264AB 100 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with SBH-100 Ball Head:

I researched this, made spreadsheets, and watched videos. I think I got the best tripod for me that will still be great if I upgrade my camera. I also made a video on youtube "Vanguard Alta+ 264AB tripod with SBH-100 ball head review by an Amateur photographer".

I narrowed it down to this Vanguard Alta+ 264AB w. the SBH-100 ball head, the Oben AC1420 and the Induro Adventure AKB2. I couldn't find a video showing how the Oben center column was inverted. I really liked the Induro, but folded it was close to 1/2 my height.

I chose the Vanguard from B&H photo, in part because of the great customer service I got before my purchase from both Vanguard and B&H. Very helpful and patient folks.

I love the ball head and will probably never go back to a pan head. I always seemed to reach for the wrong handle. The Alta+ is solid. It is heavier than I'd like and I wouldn't want it to weight an ounce more.

The tips you push in on the center column are going to be what I dislike the most I believe, that or the QR screw. They are very hard to push, they hurt and leave circle prints in my left hand fingers and when it finally goes my right hand and column slams in to whatever is below it when it releases.

The 4 section legs with 3 quick locks do not bother me at all. I am pleased that it folds down shorter than the extra second it takes to unlock 3 more locks over the 3 section legs models.

I wish the quick release plate was twist with your thumb screw, instead of needing a tool but I knew that before I bought it. On my camera I can't change the battery with the plate on and it also has to come off to attach the short column adapter to your camera. I do wish the tool snapped or stored on the tripod somewhere safe.

I love how low it will go although pressing in the leg lock is also hard for me to do, but I'm hoping they get easier with time and use.

For a sub $200 tripod, less than 4lbs, that goes from macro low to almost 60" high and supports 11 lbs- I am very happy with this birthday gift from my hubby.
