This is my first Blu-Ray player so I don't know how it compares to others, but I have to say that in addition to playing Blu-Ray discs, this makes regular DVDs look spectacular as well. I was afraid that I'd never want to watch an old DVD again, but they look almost as good as Blu-Ray with this player.

I've only played with the "Smart" features a little bit and so far I am less impressed with that part (makes me glad I didn't buy a "Smart" TV; I have this hooked up to a Samsung EH6000 series). Apps are quite slow to load, and it did hang a few times but seems better after a software update. That part of the players is not for non-techies.

I finished installing my brand new Samsung Blu-Ray DVD player and I was eager to see my Samsung plasma screen explode in quality. However I was dissapointed. The Blu-Ray dvd I put on gave me only a 4:5 image, no matter what I did to the set up. Finally I gave up trying and I put on a regular DVD which looked normal 16:9. I didn't know what to do and I went to the nearby [@]store and asked a guy there if maybe the HDMI cable was not good enough. He told me the cable is fine but I should connect through the internet to Samsung website and do un update to the software. I came back home and I did download and installed an update. I hope now the next Blue-Ray DVD I will get (from [@])will show it's splendor as I don't own any Blu-Ray DVD. I did buy also a high quality HDMI cable that I put on my player instead of the old one. I hope it will work OK but I don't know yet until I get my Blu-Ray dvd. The connection to my network took quite a bit of work and at times I just gave up, then I tried again. I did this about four times and now I can stay connected but only with my nwetwork exposed, not protected. If I protect the network I have to try and connect againd with some hassle but it works only with my network unprotected. Luckily I have no security problems and nothing to hide on my network.

Comments about Samsung BD-E5700 Blu-ray Disc Player:

We purchased this BlueRay player to replace a JVC one that would not up-convert regular DVDs. This one plays all our old DVDs and my wife's workout videos without any problems. The picture and sound quality are fantastic and because we have a Samsung TV, one remote operates both. The WiFi was so easy to set up and we love being able to have Pandora on during dinner parties. Great buy.

I was told by Samsung that this player would play AVI files through an external hard drive, it does not, had to convert to mpeg, no problem. I was also told that the player would not work with an external hard drive bigger than 500gb, I use a 2tb with no problems. wifi seemed slow, But might be on my end, player works fine, all in all a good player for a great price.

Comments about Samsung BD-E5700 Blu-ray Disc Player:

I purchased this product for my recently finished basement. One of the main reasons I bought this model is because of the built in Wi-fi. The tv I have in the basement is a few years old so it had no Internet capability. I have not been disappointed. The Samsung Smart Hub feature is great and the wi-fi is a breeze to set up. The only negative so far is the slow start up time, but this seems to be typical of other Blu Ray players as well. Great product and a great price.

I bought 2 but I have to return one. There are 2 outputs. One HDMI and one Digital audio. I have an older amp and thats not going to work. I guess you need to buy the high ends that cost over 500.00 or you can but a new amp. The other one went to our bedroom. Its a perfect match for the Samsung 26 inch LED. Picture is great but Wifi is really slow so I think its useless. Its Ok for a bedroom but this is not a good match for a home theater unless you have a NEW amp with digital and optrical inputs. I think its still good deal

I had tto return the Samsung E-5700 because it quit working after having played 6 DVDs. It might have been a fault just in this one unit. I don't know. I was disappointed because, while it worked, I was pleased with it:good strong color, sharp. But the weight of the machine was extremely light, and that concerned me upfront, before I plugged it in. The size was also very small. I ended up getting a much higher quality Onkyo from B&H.

I bought this device last week, setup is normal no issues. It took some time to update firmware and once all done was ready to rock. After playing few movies through DLNA I realized this device is missing lots of codec which were part of D5700. There are several issues frequent wifi disconnect, constat update install etc. return after 1 week.
