BD Live content requires internet service and a USB flash drive or SD card with at least 1 GB of free space (sold separately).
Take your home theater experience to the next level with Panasonic's DMP-BDT500 Smart Network 3D Blu-Ray Disc Player. Feature-rich and built to wow, this showpiece is more than a Blu-ray player. While it pairs seamlessly with any HDTV, it also features Skype video calling, online streaming, support for interactive movie extras, and it even lets you kick back and use your iPhone as a remote control.
You can rely on the DMP-BDT500 to deliver stunning high resolution images in full HD 1080p as well as 3D content to create an immersive, wraparound experience in your own living room. Whether it's the latest Blockbuster hit on Blu-ray or a classic film on DVD, this disc player is capable of providing rich, vivid images fine tuned with Panasonic's PHL processing. And to give you the full cinematic experience, it supports several high resolution audio formats from Dolby and DTS so you can enjoy a detailed sound field whether you have a surround sound system or just two speakers.
One of the DMP-BDT500's biggest boasts is that it has twin HDMI outputs for audio and video. This means you can hook it up to a legacy A/V receiver and still enjoy 3D video with HD audio soundtracks simultaneously, even if your receiver lacks HDMI ports.

Comments about Panasonic DMP-BDT500 Smart Network 3D Blu-Ray Disc Player:
For playing blurays, it's great especially that I utilize its analog outs. Image quality pops with good blacks and color saturation. Load time is fast. For disc playback, it's a five star.
Cons: limited .mkv playback to low bitrate files only to include streaming (silly). No .png, tiff image support (what!?). The Network (and getting to and around DLNA) menu is cumbersome.

Comments about Panasonic DMP-BDT500 Smart Network 3D Blu-Ray Disc Player:
Easy to install and set up. many negative comments about the touch pad on the remote but I found it OK to use. Unfortunatly whilst the Blue ray seems to be multi region the DVD functionality is not. I have ordered a remote which hopefully changes this to multi region.

Comments about Panasonic DMP-BDT500 Smart Network 3D Blu-Ray Disc Player:
Mine arrived yesterday from B&H. I was stunned by the quality of both video and audio. It is wired through an older (but rock solid) Yamaha HTR-5840 receiver and a Kuro 5020 plasma. Speakers are a mix of Paradigm and Energy, with a Velodyne sub. Because this older receiver doesn't have any HDMI jacks, the 500 is wired through the multi-channel analogs. The unit replaces a Sony BDP-S350 that has provided adequate service for the past few years. We tested it with Avatar and were blown away by the quality. CD's sounded notably better than the Denon CD changer I have. DVD upscaling was also solid, though I am not sure if this is being done by blu-ray or the Kuro - presumably the former unless there is some setting to bypass it and let the plasma handle things (which it can do beautifully). I had a Marantz UD5005 on order, but cancelled it when I saw this deal. Still conflicted over that decision, but this machine - while perhaps not in the Marantz class - is far more future proof (and had the analog outputs). We are debating getting Netflix, so I can't comment on that side of things. It has caused problems for some - but a FW update was just released specifically for that issue. It did hook up quickly and efficiently to my wi-fi and several minutes of Youtube as a streaming test worked flawlessly. I intend to hardwire the ethernet after picking up some additional Powerline adapters. The machine prompted for a FW update to v1.47, which also downloaded and installed just fine over wi-fi. The remote control touchpad is going to take a lot of getting used to - thankfully there are tactile buttons for the major playback tasking. One day isn't enough to judge it fairly, but I see it as the only potential "con" at this point. I am very pleased with the machine. The PQ/AQ are simply outstanding and the design is beautiful and much more substantial than lower-priced models.

Comments about Panasonic DMP-BDT500 Smart Network 3D Blu-Ray Disc Player:
Give this baby some high quality HDMI cables and you will be amazed by the detail in picture quality and the audio clarity. Standard DVD's, Blu-Ray and 3D Blu-Ray all look fantastic on this player. Audio is super clean, quite revealing. I took a hard look at the Oppo 93 when it first came out. I read many reviews and all and was finally ready to purchase. Then recently I started researching the DMP-BDT500 and was impressed with it's high end design and it's price.Yes the remote takes some getting use to but with patience do-able. This player has features, adjustments and capabilities the average person may never use. Out of the box this baby is ready to play. Wi-fi? No sweat. If you are into high quality audio and video you owe it to yourself to check this player out. It's that good.

Comments about Panasonic DMP-BDT500 Smart Network 3D Blu-Ray Disc Player:
Working great thus far. Incredible blu-ray picture, excellent 3d playback. Have not tested other features such as usb, flac playback, etc. Minus 1 star due to glitchy firmware update. The unit will inform you that an update is available through the settings menu (when connected to internet) but when you go to settings it is just a blank screen. This is a known issue. You CANNOT use the player without updating the firmware! No bluray playback. The simple fix was to flash the unit from a cdr burned with firmware update from the web. Otherwise great unit so far but not for the technologically timid!
