BD Live content requires both internet service, and a USB flash drive with at least 1 GB of free space (sold separately), and for wireless Lan, the Panasonic DY-WL5 is required.
Action, comedy, drama, romance -- you'll see it all on the big screen. Of your HDTV, that is. For movie and multimedia buffs looking for high performance and networked features, the DMP-BD77 Blu-ray Disc Player makes a great choice.
The Blu-ray format offers some of the most vivid, detailed imagery available today. This player supports full HD 1080p resolution, so you can enjoy your favorite Blu-ray titles with realistic picture quality. While it can't rival the full experience of being at your local theater, this disc player does its best to come close. It supports decoding for 7.1 channels of audio, and supports lossless audio formats DTS-HD Master Audio Essential and Dolby Digital Plus, which are found on many Blu-ray discs. That means you can send high definition surround sound to your multi-channel sound system to round out your couch-based cinema experience.
Once you purchase the required external adapter, you're well on your way to filling your living room with non-stop multimedia entertainment, including streaming from many paid and free services. You'll be able to keep up to date with your favorite TV shows using your Netflix account, or watch video clips on YouTube. The CinemaNow library has about 14,000 feature-length films, shorts, music concerts and TV programs. This service also lets you view movies that are still in theaters for a fraction of the price of a movie ticket. Subscription-based Hulu Plus grants you access to TV shows like the Office, 30 Rock, Grey's Anatomy and more on multiple devices (including this disc player).
A network connection also means you can access movie extras that are included on many Blu-ray discs; billed as BD Live materials. These can include chats with a filmmaker, interactive quizzes, trailers and more.
The DMP-BD77 supports the lossless FLAC audio file type, so you can enjoy high definition playback of your music. Since it's DLNA compatible, it's easy to share content over your network with other devices that support the DLNA protocol.
This disc player is highly customizable; multi-user mode lets you save profiles for a few different users so the whole family can enjoy their personal preferences. With VIERA Link, you can use just one remote for all your devices including the DMP-BD77 if they share the HDMI-CEC qualification. So you can eliminate your pile of remotes on the coffee table and streamline control. With a quick boot and load time, you won't have to wait to start enjoying your movie or other media.
And perhaps best of all, the DMP-BD77 is Energy Star qualified so it consumes a low amount of power. That means it can keep the cost of your monthly energy bills down while helping to save the environment. So in addition to its high performance and networked functions, it's quite the wallet-friendly investment!

Comments about Panasonic DMP-BD77 Blu-ray Disc Player:
Bought this Blue-ray player to replace my 10 year old Toshiba. Picture quality very good and set up was easy. Watched two movies and the unit froze up and would not respond to either commands from the remote or manually on the unit. I could not get the disc out of the machine. Decided to reboot by unplugging the machine and that worked to correct the problem. Two movies later it did the same thing so it is going back to [@ ]for a new one. I am willing to give this brand one more chance in hopes that it was just a glitch for that particular unit. Stay tuned for an update.

Comments about Panasonic DMP-BD77 Blu-ray Disc Player:
Very easy to set up and understand. I use this to play my dvd, cd, and now will be purchasing blue rays. If quality of picture from standard dvd is fact, then the blue ray picture will be, I suspect, out of this world.

So far it lives up to all the specs although I havent had chance to evaluate it over a longer period. For a person looking for a quality product on a limited budget this player is worth considering.
