Even before you turn it on, the crystal frame design of the Panasonic Smart Viera 55" Class GT50 Series Full HD Plasma HDTV enhances your environment by simply being a beautiful object. It's when you fire it up, however, that it becomes obvious that the TC-P55GT50 is at the frontier of a flat panel breakthrough which turns traditional passive viewing into a completely interactive experience with a radically immersive element: 3D.
Panasonic uses Full HD Frame Sequential technology to create its 3D images. Images recorded in 1920 x 1080 pixels for both the right-eye and the left-eye alternately flash on the screen at high speed. When you view the screen through active-shutter glasses that open and close each lens in sync with the alternating images, you see breathtaking Full HD 3D pictures with stunning power and realism. And this TV is also THX 3D Certified, meaning that it meets rigorous standards that assure you that a movie is displayed exactly as its creator intended.
"Vividness," is the key word in the TC-P55GT50's design. Besides 3D, 2,500 Focused Field Drive technology ensures action with striking clarity while gamers will appreciate the 1,080 lines of moving-picture resolution coupled with Game Mode which optimizes contrast and sharpness and accelerates image processing. And speaking of gaming, downloading games from Viera Connect Market allows you to utilize your tablet or smart phone as a game pad as well as a remote control for browsing the web. And you can do it wirelessly thanks to the TC-P55GT50's built-in WiFi.
If you're short of space, or you just prefer an uncluttered room, you'll appreciate the 3D Real Sound with 8-Train Speakers. Panasonic employs acoustic-field compensation technology to match the soundtrack's frequency to human auditory characteristics. Eight small speakers with reflectors create surround effects enhanced by a super-slim subwoofer that adds rumble, thunder and realistic base notes to your programming. You can listen to music or view video and photos downloaded from an on-line source or from an SD card or USB drive thanks to the TC-P55GT50's convenient ports. Your TV's wide connectivity also includes 4 HDMI inputs as well as component composite and optical inputs.
And if you have questions about this incredible entertainment hub, Panasonic has answers. Just press the eHELP button on your included remote control for details as well as FAQs about peripheral devices and operating instructions.
Finally, not only is your TV eco-friendly, thanks to the elimination of mercury and lead, but it's loaded with energy-saving features like auto shut-off and Intelligent Auto Standby that continue to save you money and reduce your carbon footprint long after your purchase.

Comments about Panasonic Smart Viera 55" Class GT50 Series Full HD Plasma HDTV:
The picture is fantastic, I'd highly recommend this TV. As mentioned in some other reviews I read, the glossy screen isn't great with diffusing glare, but that is a minor concern. I like the quick access to THX Cinema and bright room settings, I can quickly swap between them. Good networking, was seamless with Windows 8 on my desktop...I especially like the right click, "play to Viera" option I now have in explorer with all my photos and videos. Navigating shared drives from the TV could be a bit better...I can't comment on the TV sound, just hooked it up to my home theater.
All in all, I'm thrilled with my purchase...replacing another panasonic plasma that I've had for about 7 years, still works! Enough said about Panasonic's reliability.

Comments about Panasonic Smart Viera 55" Class GT50 Series Full HD Plasma HDTV:
We don't have cable. Not even an antenna. So we're using this strictly to view digital media from the internet, or already downloaded, or on DVD and BluRay. The Viera 55" is a truly splendid product. Works right out of the box. All we needed, in our case, was Apple TV and a good Wi-Fi connection (Comcast is our internet provider, with a 50Gb/s account). Aside from the iTunes access, it turned out that the new set almost doesn't need a TV device like Apple or Roku as it has its own Wi-Fi, which works well.
Most aspects for basic use and configuration readiness are purely intuitive. All that was necessary was to read the unpacking and installation instructions, which are clear and direct. The set was unpacked and operating within a half hour.
The built-in audio is more than adequate for viewing and watching movies. The simulated surround sound setting actually does improve the audio portion on movies at least. We've watched movies, and we've watched streaming television programming from Netflix, and all with equal clarity. There seems to be no problem for the set to handle any level of high definition imagery, so long as the bandwidth is there to provide it.
We have not as yet installed a DVD or Blu-Ray player, but I don't anticipate any problems. There are an ample number of inputs on the set, and it should accommodate whatever we might want to add to our media center, short of the most esoteric kind of installation.
The viewing is the most spectacular aspect of using this set. It is the best image I have seen on a device like this outside of viewing in an art movie theater with state-of-the-art digital rear screen projection equipment. I am sure it rivals premium installations, whoever the vendor. For not much more money, this set (the "GT" version of this size in the Viera series) is visibly better than the best-selling, highly acclaimed "ST" version, which is only marginally cheaper. The $150-200 one-time difference in price is justified merely with the performance bump, and this set also comes with some additional features not found on the less-expensive version, allowing greater versatility and installation choices for support equipment (e.g., a greater number of inputs of different kinds).
Even without extended use (we've only had the set for two weeks) I highly recommend it at this point, and I have no regrets about use.

Comments about Panasonic Smart Viera 55" Class GT50 Series Full HD Plasma HDTV:
I am very disappointed with this TV and Panasonic as a company. I relly wanted this TV to be great. I liked this HDTV when it was delivered. Delivery was 1 hr. later than the 3 hour range the CEVA Home delivery Co. allotted me. I was not happy about that. Delivery guys were polite, set up the TV on it's stand and placed in room, plugged in and I had cable TV working. Later on that evening I noticed several pixels were not working. These pixels would be either fully on "bright white" or off, no in between colors or illumination increments. Had to send the TV back for replacement. Manufacturers defect. received the new replacement in 10 days. Replacement TV seemed ok for a while (3 months). Then Panasonic sent a software update (via the internet wich was working at the time) to the VIERA Connect Software and asked me to install it in order to update my firmware and get on the internet. The software update corrupted my in-board Wi-Fi receiver that is built in to the TV. I no longer can receive Wi-Fi signals from my router. The TV will only allow Ethernet hookup now. Panasonic seems to have no fix for this. I am waiting ( it has been 5 days to be called back for a in home service call to see if they will fix this, replace the Wi-Fi module, or replace the entire TV). customer service seems not to know what to so with this. My other complaint is using the remote to move the pointer while on the internet is clunky and I much would have preferred a touch-pad or joystick built into the remote. With color adjustments the set looks very good, and I noticed the input source now shows more all the defects of the programming. Even with a great TV a poorly shot scene or badly digitized DVD won't look good, but the major News stations look great. Nice TV. I had hope to be able to enjoy the new one for a long time... but I am disappointed with Panasonic as a company and am fearful this product I have purchased three months ago is a lemon and that Panasonic is not to concerned with fixing my Wi-Fi problem. This is unacceptable! I recommend do not buy any panasonic TV's with the Viera connect WI-Fi features. Panasonic does not have it's act together and you to might be disappointed as I am and feeling ripped off and stuck with an expensive TV that does not fully work.
