The Celestron Amoeba Dual Purpose Digital Microscope is both a traditional microscope for viewing slide specimens and a removable handheld microscope for getting a closer look at large objects. A built-in 1.3Mp digital camera allows for stills and video to be taken of specimens. With the included ULead photo software (for Windows), files can be saved and shared with others. That being said, the microscope allows for plug and play compatibility with both Windows and Mac computers.

The Amoeba has powers of 10x, 60x, and 200x, top and bottom LED illumination, coarse focusing with dual knobs, and a 3.2" diameter plain stage. The microscope comes with 8 prepared slides, 4 blank slides, a tweezers, a needle probe, an eyedropper, and a USB 2.0 cable.

Comments about Celestron Amoeba Dual Purpose Digital Microscope (Blue):

This is amazing for what it is, but what exactly is it? Technologically, it is quite sophisticated for its price range and it ought to be lots of fun for a student or even lab technician who wants a very easy set up and quick snaps. The gadget would be superb if it were practical to operate it without the stand. It would have the potential of acting as a dermatological scope or marvelous method of surveying the secret life of nature. However, it is so hard to focus that the slightest wobble makes this unrealistic. This means one can look at prepared slides, not use it without a tripod with a boom or the provided stand. It's surprisingly well made for what it is but severely limited by its inability to stay in focus when handheld. It is also tethered to the computer via the USB cable so it is not a standalone device and therefore while possible to hold in one's hand, it is not really all that portable. I will probably return mine for something significantly more expensive but more versatile.

Strickly a toy. Very crude and imprecise focusing. You can easily due better for under $10.00

I have been using this for various hobbies (checking on fine things and even the 200x zoom to check if I can see anything suspicious at that part)
I'm not a biologist or anyone wanting hardcore viewing with these, but these are very satisfactory for me.

I mainly like it because it is lightweight (can be separate the body from the stand), easy to use and is already digital.
I'm a bit careful with these though as I think all microscopes are delicate.
