Look to the OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual Bay RAID Quad Interface Enclosure when you need a large AV, Digital Photography, Music, or Data storage solution. This enclosure holds two 3.5" SATA hard disk drives of up to 3TB each, and offers RAID support thanks to its Oxford 946 chipset.

The RAID configurations include 0 and 1 for striping and mirroring, non-RAID span mode, and Independent Mode to access each drive separately. It can hold drives with up to a 64MB buffer and 10,000 rpm speed, and supports SATA drives running at 1.5 Gbps, 3.0 Gbps, and 6.0 Gbps.

The quad interface allows four choices for connection - eSATA, FireWire 800, FireWire 400, and USB 2.0. You'll get varying data transfer rates with each connection; eSATA at 3.0 Gbps, FireWire 800 at 800Mbps, FireWire 400 at 400 Mbps, and USB at 480 Mbps. This also means that any PC, Mac or Linux based computer that has those connectors can use this unit, and it also comes with all necessary cables.

When you need a large storage solution and flexible connection options, you should consider the OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual Bay RAID Quad Interface Enclosure.

Comments about OWC / Other World Computing Mercury Elite Pro RAID 2-Bay Quad Interface Enclosure:

The first one would not recognize on the computer. The second one was the same. The hard drives were fine but the enclosure board was terrible. Wouldn't get another one of these for anything.

Comments about OWC / Other World Computing Mercury Elite Pro RAID 2-Bay Quad Interface Enclosure:

Use for storing large RAW picture files and backup. RAID 0 configured for max capacity and speed. I had some trouble with setup initially because there were two issues -- 1. RAID 0 was NOT configured properly as advertised. 2. RAID 0 config did not work when configured. The B&H rep referred me to the OWA tech who worked me through the issues. Now working fine -- pe prepared for some setup hassel.

Comments about OWC / Other World Computing Mercury Elite Pro RAID 2-Bay Quad Interface Enclosure:

I use this for photo storage, with two 1TB HDD's in RAID-1 configuration. I installed a WD Enterprise HDD and a WD Black. Installation of the first HDD is easy as the connector is on the board. The second HDD was not as easy, as the connector had to be twisted around 180 degrees which was a little difficult with the stiffness of the flat cable, and the wires could be a little longer.

It has all metal construction, and it comes with all the peripheral cables - eSATA, USB 2, Firewire 400, & 800. Nice!

Instructions were easy to follow and I had the drives installed and everything up and running in about 10 minutes.

When these drives are full, I'll just buy another OWC and two more HDD's.

Comments about OWC / Other World Computing Mercury Elite Pro RAID 2-Bay Quad Interface Enclosure:

The instructions and assembly were pretty easy. The only thing that was a bit difficult was sliding the hard drives in and out. The fit is really snug so if the screws weren't all the way screwed down it didn't fit. Make sure they're all the way screwed down and you'll have no problem. It's sort of fun it looks like a mini mac pro on top of my mac pro.
