The JVC SR-HD2500 Blu-Ray Disc & HDD Recorder with HD-SDI is a combo deck that lets you burn HD Blu-ray discs and HD or SD DVDs without being connected to a PC. Featuring a 500GB hard disk drive for editing and duplicating, the deck can record internally or direct-to-Blu-ray / DVD from various inputs, even from live signals. A comprehensive set of connections, including HD-SDI, provide compatibility with most all media sources, like high-end cameras and switchers.

The unit records in HD but can downscale and burn to DVD in SD. Discs can be authored in BDMV (true Blu-ray authoring) or BDAV disc formats, with menus and with auto-start or repeat playback options. Multiple copies of each recording can easily be made via a built-in duplication function. The deck stores up to 24 hours of HD using dual-layer 50GB discs in AE mode and supports both BD-R and erasable BD-RE Blu-ray discs. Video formats supported are MPEG2TS, MPEG2PS, and H.264 AVC. Audio formats supported consist of Dolby Digital and LPCM.

The deck also allows convenient monitoring by SDI, HDMI, and component outputs. And another useful feature is the capacity to superimpose over the video burned -- whether onto Blu-ray or DVD -- the time-code or time and date embedded in an SDI signal.

Comments about JVC SR-HD2500 Blu-Ray Disc & HDD Recorder with HD-SDI:

This is all around a bad product. Purchased two of these with the intention of burning Bluray and DVD's straight from an HD-SDI source. Afterall it's the only option on the market with HDSDI. This device TECHNICALLY can do this, but not in realtime unless you use a BD-RE disc, and at $10+ a disc, this isn't realistic. In order to burn a Bluray disc you must record in realtime to the hard drive then dub again in realtime to a BD-R disc. Go one second over the 2 hour capacity of the disc? Forget about burning, it won't do it. Also, this device has NO capability of upconverting or down converting. Even my $80 panasonic DVD player can upconvert to HDMI. If you mix HD and SD in any combination, you'll need a cross converter. Now on to the all around terrible performance. This thing locks up on a regular basis. The only chance of unlocking it is unplugging and replugging the power. For two days it only displayed "good by" on the screen, even though it was still functioning. It's often a 3 second delay for it to respond to any type of input. Note, I got suckered into buying two of these, and they both function at the same level of mediocrity. Save you money, this product isn't ready for the pro world.

Comments about JVC SR-HD2500 Blu-Ray Disc & HDD Recorder with HD-SDI:

We purchased the HD-2500 to replace our HD-1500 because it was touted as being able to record direct to blu-ray disc (without first having to record to the hard drive & then dub to the disc). Plus it has an HD-SDI connector built right in.

What wasn't fully disclosed is that - although you can also connect an SD SDI standard def feed to it, the recorder ONLY records direct to disc in VR mode. In order to record a disc in "Video" mode, you have to dub your show onto the hard drive and then dub back out to a regular DVD.

This is somewhat disappointing since most clients request a video DVD. Just makes for more hoops to jump through and a longer day.

The instuction manual also misleads one into thinking that dubbing direct to Video mode is available on regular DVD's. Rest assured, it is not.

Still a wonderful blu-ray recorder nonetheless.

Comments about JVC SR-HD2500 Blu-Ray Disc & HDD Recorder with HD-SDI:

I bought this JVC deck to archive my high definition DVR recordings, and this is the most efficient solution that I could find! It works perfectly! I output HD component from my cable box's DVR to the Blackmagic Design's analog to SDI converter. Then I take the HD-SDI output from that converter to the JVC deck's HD-SDI input. The result is that you can record 480i, 720p, and 1080i signals to the JVC deck! Upon playback, the signal is upconverted to 1080p when you use the HDMI output on the deck. The result is beautiful HD recordings! There is finally a solution to archive SD and HD shows on your DVR. Note that the JVC deck does not have timer recording capabilities, so you still must record to the DVR first.
