This thing is great if you don't want separate cable modem and router units (and two electrical cords). Comcast will "sense" this thing automatically when you open a Web browser, and after you enter acct info into the Comcast setup screen, it takes about 10 min. to set up from their end. THERE IS NO NEED TO CALL COMCAST with new MAC address or anything. My house is about 2,400 sq. ft., and I have great coverage throughout. I use this primarily for Apple TV HD streaming, and there are no hiccups/buffering pauses. Have this thing for two weeks now, and so far no need to reboot as nothing's gone off-line yet.

This modem replaced a TWC Ambit wired modem to reduce monthly fees and upgrade to DOCSIS 3.0. Installation was easy, simple to do, and needed the service provider to activate the modem on their system. There is without question concerns from the performance of this modem with the service provider. The original modem provided 30Mbps / 1.97Mbps while the Motorola modem provides 14.62Mbps / 1.93MBps. There are moments of delays while waiting for a page to load. These delays occurs with an ethernet-wired PC and wireless connections to two MacBook Pro as well as a Kindle Fire HD. While on the phone with TWC, my VoIP rebooted which required me to re-call with a cellphone. The result was no firm answer except I need to call them every time the modem needed to be rebooted. This modem is listed as their recommendation. I really need to figure out what is really going on to solve this dilemma. Therefore for now, I cannot recommend this modem.

This cost $ and it doesn't even work worth the money. The signal keep on dropping off and on and it is not worth using. The signal does not even get to next room from where the model is installed. Do not recommend this. :(

The modem was as advertized plug & play. I did a test I'm running 95mbps download, 12mbps upload. The security settings are easy to access and easy to change username / password after modifying.B&H was very prompt at shipping. I would definately purchase through B&H and I would purchase this Modem again (hopefully I won't need a new one for a long long long time).

I got this in order to avoid having to get an additional wireless router and I am very impressed with the speeds that I get. For example using a speediest website, I got a download speed of 97MBps on a 100MBPS connection from Time Warner and I regularly get wireless download speeds on my Mac up to 8.7MB/s, so all in all very happy!

After much research regarding internet modems, I decided the Motoola SBG6580 was the best option for my needs. The modem was very easy to set up and the instructions were clear and concise. To date I have not had any major issues and the small hiccups I've had were more "user error" related and quite simple to troubleshoot. I would recommend this modem to others.

Comments about Motorola SBG6580 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Wireless Cable Modem:

This is the latest of the Motorola Surfboard Modems that I have used. Never had any problems with any of them. Using this one as a wireless gateway for internet. Easy to set up wireless network using the included setup wizard software. My service gets the Send and Receive lights to light Blue meaning I get very fast transfer rates. I have always gotten fast friendly service from B&H. I inquired about this product before buying it. I was assured that I would have 30 days to return it if not happy with the item. So far it is as expected and I am very happy with the item and the seller. The only negative I can mention is that Comcast has to "activate" the device. That requires a phone call which, if you have the patience of Jobe, eventually will get you to a service rep who can get a number and make the Comcast signal work with the modem. I think I spent close to an hour on he phone with 3 different Comcast reps, two of which I could hardly understand half of what they said. The 3rd one was great. He got it activated in 5 min. or less. None of the above was the fault of the Modem. I would recommend this item if all you need is Internet/Cable T.V. and a wireless network. If you also need a telephone connection then you would need to get a model with phone jacks. I have read many reviews of this item. It seems that the currently produced modems get very good reviews while the ones made in earlier years had some issues. The reason I mention this is that some sellers get older stock and sell it as a "New, never Used" item. The first one I got of this model did not work so I called Motorola. Motorola's tech checked the serial number and found the unit was well over one year old and out of warranty. After multiple emails and some back and fourth discussion, the seller did take the item back and gave me a refund. My advice is to not jump on the cheapest item out there but to deal with a reputable company like B&H or someone you have dealt with and trust.

Had the time warner rental modem. Besides being used. It doesn't work. Then bought this model. Awesome choice. Perfect. 100% recommended.

I like the size and convenience of this item. I upgraded my internet speed with the monthly savings by not leasing. I also increased my desktop space by reducing extra equipment. Set up was somewhat easy, I still needed assistance from my internet provider. Performance is good so far, first day.

Comments about Motorola SBG6580 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Wireless Cable Modem:

I used this to replace my Time-Warner modem and a separate wireless unit. Easy set up, took no more than 30 mins include time on phone with cable guy. No problems at all with speed, etc. after a week of use. I wouldn't mind a little more range-it seems to top out at about 70', but it's the opposite end of the house and several walls away-the only reason I give it 4 stars and not 5.

Comments about Motorola SBG6580 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Wireless Cable Modem:

This is an excellent device. It combines three devices in one box. A cable modem, a wireless N router, & a four port switch. It's very fast & easy to setup. It saves me a lot of money by not paying monthly rental fees to my Internet provider. The only bad thing about Motorola products is that their tech support sucks & they will not help you until you pay first.

Not used for gaming, just playing bills and checking emails. Reading all of the others reviews, I thought this was the Jaguar of all modems. I think more like a Cadillac on four flats. Today was the first time I used this device to pay bills online. It took a lot of time loading (even timed out on me). I will be on the phone with tech support tomorrow to see what going on.

Got this to replace my cable modem from TWC. They just increased the monthly lease fee, and since this is a DOCSIS 3.0 modem, it should last a while. Make sure to call TWC to give them the MAC Address of the new modem, or you might have to call them after to activate it.

Works perfectly. I use this as my internet modem rather than pay Time Warner $5/month for renting their Ubee modem. Motorola's technical help line was also very good when I first encountered problems in setting this up with the Time Warner cable line. Overall all I am pleased so far.
