The Lexar Professional USB 3.0 Dual-Slot Reader (UDMA 7) is a memory card reader equipped with a USB 3.0 interface supporting data transfer rates of up to 500MB/s. That's up to five times faster than USB 2.0 speeds. Achieve a maximum read speed of 150MB/s with the fastest compatible memory cards: CF 1000x. The reader is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0 devices. It supports UDMA (Ultra Direct Memory Access) 7 cards, which feature substantially accelerated speeds. Compatible card formats include CompactFlash (CF), SDXC / SDHC UHS-I (Ultra High Speed Class 1), and SD.
The Lexar Pro USB 3.0 reader is a superb choice for photo and video professionals seeking to significantly speed up workflow and get the most out of their sophisticated memory cards and computers. However, the card will also serve amateurs and enthusiasts well. The reader allows for concurrent transfers--in other words, it's capable of reading both SD and CF cards simultaneously. Additionally, it enables easy card-to-card file transfers. The LED activity light indicates when a transfer is complete.
The reader's convenient pop-up design protects card slots when they're not in use. Its compact size makes it easily portable, as do its smooth contours, which allow you to slip the device easily in and out of your photo bag or briefcase.
Like all Lexar memory equipment, the reader has been subjected to extensive testing in the Lexar Quality Labs to ensure the highest performance, compatibility, quality and reliability.
Note! Speed may vary based on system configuration and card used. SDXC format not supported on all OS platforms.

I am an amateur photographer, and I have recently increased the number of shots I take on each shoot. I shoot RAW and the files from my Nikon D800 are pretty large. I needed a card reader that was a little more efficient than the one I have now, it can take a long time to download 500 40MB files. I have a MacBook Pro and work on Aperture. Frankly, I'm not even sure I have a USB 3.0, but it said it's compatible with 2.0 so I purchased it anyway.
The card reader is significantly faster than my old one, I would estimate 2-4 times faster. Now I don't have to leave and make myself a sandwich and tea while I wait for the files to download. Yay, speed.
The other thing I like is that it attaches to the USB port through a cord (I suggest adding that to the photo of the product), which is great because if I have something else in the second USB port they both fit.
The only very minor criticism I have is that the card reader pops up a little too easily so it sometimes does that while I'm putting the card reader away or if I move my bag around a bunch. But it's not really a big problem

I'd give this product zero stars if I could. Not because it doesn't work with the new Macs. I understand that there can be compatibility issues. My problem is that if you go on the Lexar website, browse to the support page for this product, read the FAQ's and find "Does the reader work with a MAC® system?" you will see (at least as of the time of this review) that the answer is "Yes, the reader works with Mac OS 10+."
So I called their tech support and asked if there have been any compatibility problems with the new USB 3.0 Macs. The answer they gave me was "Yes. They're working on the issue with Apple." So.... If you know that there's an issue, and you're working with Apple to fix it, why haven't they admitted as much on their website? They told me that they have no idea when or if the issue would be resolved, and advised me to return it and buy a different reader.
I checked their compatibility page and verified that it worked with a Mac before I bought the thing, and meanwhile they knew there was a problem. Swell...
I have had other Lexar readers in the past, and I use their 600x card. I know they make great products, but there is no excuse for a known issue like this to not be indicated on the web site.

Comments about Lexar Professional USB 3.0 Dual-Slot Reader (UDMA 7):
I purchased this item December 2012 and it has worked perfectly with all of my SDHC cards: Transcend Class 10 and Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-1. However, I recently purchased the new Sony 94mb/s UHS-1 16gb card and when I put the Sony card in this reader it causes my newly built system to lock up. When the system tries to read the card it causes the reader to unmount and re-mount (disconnects then says 'found new hardware'). Put my other cards back in, reads fine. Put new Sony card in, locks up again. Put new Sony card in 2 year old Sony card reader (MRW-EA7) and works fine! Very sad that in today's modern times there are still card/reader compatibility issues.

I capture HDV video footage using a SONY MRC1 CF card recorder. This card reader travels with me and acts as a VTR for fast transfer of video files to my backup devices. This little unit just replaced my HDV deck! Cool!

I love this card reader! Until now, I've simply been plugging cord to camera and computer to transfer files. But this reader is great --- BOTH cards [CF, SD] work in it!

I previously had a Lexar that was just for CF cards. Now that I have cameras that use both CF and SD cards, I bought this reader. It's very fast and I like how the reader folds down into the little plastic case so it doesn't allow dust in when you are not using it. It's also good for taking with you if you are going out into the field with your laptop as it takes little space and you can transfer photos easily. Highly recommended!

I replaced my single compact flash card reader from Lexar with this dual reader. It is nice to be able to quickly download both types of cards from my Canon 5d Mark III. The USB 3.0 is also much faster than my previous 2.0 reader.

Works great, but once I "eject" the card from my mac the little blue light stays on and it says "do not remove card while blue light is on". So I just un plug the cord from the mac.

After about a year, the cord that plugs into the unit is loose and when working on the laptop, if the reader moves at all it becomes disconnected from the computer due to the loose cord. Fast card reader and I was happy up ubtil this problem showed up.

I just built a new PC with USB 3.0 capability & wanted to take advantage of the increased transfer speeds. My other USB 2.0 reader was a Lexar & never had problems with it. I'm very satisfied.

Reader ingests a 16Gb CF card very quickly into PhotMechanic - everything I expected.
I haven't used a SD card at the same time as a CF card, so I can't comment on the speed when combined, but nifty that one card reader can read both - saves space in your bag.
Only had it for 2 weeks so I can't comment on durability, but it seems OK in terms of build.

I photograph children's birthday parties. In a two hour time frame I will take about one thousand photos. With my old device I played Solitaire while waiting for the transfer to my Mac. The Lexar Professional USB 3.0 really spins my top with speed.
I am OK with the feel of the product but would like a click to let me know I've made contact when I insert the card. At the price however, I am one happy customer.

Comments about Lexar Professional USB 3.0 Dual-Slot Reader (UDMA 7):
Since RAW files grow larger and larger with each new generation of DSLRs transmitting them to the PC has become quite time consuming.
However, for owners of a USB III port, the Lexar card reader is a great way to save time.
In my hands, it downloads data 3 times as fast as the PC built in SD card reader!
The design of the device is well thought through. It has a rubber foot which allows it to stand firmly on the desk, and the card slots can be 'hidden' in the frame, protected from dusk when not in use.
One thing should be mentioned, though: users of Windows XP who want to use the card reader with SD XC1 cards need to download a small bug fix to enable XP to read those cards when inserted into the Lexar (or any other card reader, for that matter).
