Product Highlights
  • 1-MicroBeam 1024 Power Adapter

The Flolight MicroBeam 1024 High Powered Video Spot Light (5600K) employs 1,024 5.0 mm LEDs to produce the equivalent of 1,000W of tungsten light while consuming only 97W. That's a serious savings over power-hungry hot lights. With a lamp life of 25,000 hours it's practically maintenance-free. The sturdy aluminum frame is held by a yoke with a 5/8" receiver. The fixture is cool to the touch and only 2.5" thick so you can squeeze it into places where other lights just can't go without harming your subject. The MicroBeam 1024 is powered by the included 110-240V AC Power Adapter or external 12V DC battery power sources using an optional V-Mount or Anton Bauer battery plate.

Comments about Flolight MicroBeam 1024 High Powered Video Spot Light (5600K):

Quality and build was much better than I had expected, especially considering some of the hypercritical reviews for this instrument. I purchased barn doors and have them mounted to Avenger A5017 roller stands. I use TetherTools Strapmore to secure power pack to stands. The entire rig can be broken down in minutes.

I use 2 of the Flolight 1024 spots mainly for DSLR video capture and some still work. But also great for our webcast studio. I also used at a live launch event in Beverly Hills and they also transported and ran beautifully.

I've used Arri and Matthews hot lights for most of my work in the past and this does come very close to a 1k in terms of output and the accuracy is good as well. Like all lighting instruments, it should be fine tuned (color balanced) to other light sources.

Overall, a great buy for the money.

Comments about Flolight MicroBeam 1024 High Powered Video Spot Light (5600K):

I am an amateur videographer, shooting with a Canon 5D Mark III. I just used this light for the first time yesterday on an outdoor shoot at a local ski resort and it fit the bill perfectly. It's slim and easy to transport. It's tough to compete with all the light outside on a sunny day, especially in snow, but this light acted as a really nice fill at about 3 feet off the subjects face. The light comes with a carrying case. It's a soft bag, seems cheap. It would be nice if it came in a pelican case. It would also be nice if it was able to do tungsten light as well as daylight. It would also be nice if the swivel was on a quick release instead of two separate wing nuts with interlocking teeth. Overall seems like it's going to work great.

Comments about Flolight MicroBeam 1024 High Powered Video Spot Light (5600K):

I've only had this light a couple of weeks, but so far I'd say it's one heckuva tool. This is VERY punchy and the color is spot on. I have yet to do any proper color and brightness tests but the few times I've already used it in setups, it really delivers.

Comments about Flolight MicroBeam 1024 High Powered Video Spot Light (5600K):

I had 2 of the older 1024 models for a while and upgraded to the new 1024 units and have had these for a year now. One thing I really wish is that I had my older 1024 units back. The "improvements" made to the newer model 1024 lights aren't necessarily improvements in my book.

They added teeth to the tilt lock which means you have to take the time to either tighten or loosen the locking knob about 2 turns to have the teeth clear each other before you can tilt the head. This is time consuming and annoying when you want to make a minor change in tilt angle. I added fiber washers in between the teeth to enable a lock that isn't positive.

They took away the 4 switches that controlled the LED power for some strange reason (probably much cheaper to produce without those), but these still have the dimmer. Believe me, the head was much better with the switches.

The color on these is identical to the older model and to my eye, these still need 1/8 minus green and 1/4 CTO to make them more neutral in chroma.

I got mine with the V mount battery plate, which is pure cheese. They definitely sourced the cheapest possible battery plate for these and I'd recommend replacing them right away. I had to remove one because the plate stopped giving battery power and after reconnecting the lose lead inside the head, 2 of the screws crushed the plastic of the case. Notice in the images how cheesy these mounts are as compared to an inexpensive battery mount I had on hand. The battery mount provided with the 1024 didn't even have a fuse protected D tap socket and the actual "V" mount is plastic, not metal.

The padded bags these come with are very nice and I travel with these all the time without damage occurring.

I would also caution anyone buying these to check all fasteners as many on my units were a tad loose.

I have no experience with competing heads of similar configuration, but I'm starting to wonder...

Comments about Flolight MicroBeam 1024 High Powered Video Spot Light (5600K):

First let me say, I am considering picking some more of these up. I needed something better then the standard hot lights for video and 3D stereography in my small studio.
For still photography I still prefer strobes, but for dual camera 3D stereo strobes are not working for me. too much trouble syncing everything up. And of course for video strobes are useless.

From a still photography standpoint, they really don't put out enough light to get where I want the light to be. With only two of them they are marginal for 3D stills because of the need to be at f8 or narrower. for video they are excellent.

The reason I plan on getting more is I like the light coming off the LED panels because even without modifiers, it casts fairly soft shadows, they have a small space footprint, and don't heat up the studio as fast as hot lights. I also like that they use a lot less power.

Although I have not tried it, it seems they will be easier to travel with then the few times I have traveled with strobes and softboxes. I do know they are easier to set up.

I use several FloLights, 1024s and 512s for location video and stills. In the field they work fine and deliver good light as promised. Recently one of the knobs that holds the light onto the bracket fell off and the thread was stripped within the light. When I contacted FloLight to get it repaired I was told they aren't set-up for such repairs and I should find an auto or motorcycle mechanic to drill new threaded holes into the metal housing. For a [$]product that has had gentle usage I fully expected to send the light off and get it back for some nominal repair fee. Because of this experience I will not purchase or recommend FloLights anymore. Why boast a 25,000 hour bulb life when the housing breaks after 20 hours and you need a car mechanic to fix it?

it's great led light. it's lighter and brighter than a kino-flo. There's a dimmer right on the back. It's cheaper than Lite Panels and puts more punch. I've only had it for about 3 weeks, i can;t really say anything about durability.I bought the barn doors. I leave them on all the time to prevent led damage when stored. There is a Chimera for it. I wish i had s switch to go for 3200K to 5600K.
