This "lens" is definitely an interesting idea to include in a kit, but is by no means essential. I imagine that it would work better on a 7D or Rebel than on my full-frame 5D, where it lacks full coverage and leaves a conspicuous vignette. Otherwise, it's fun to use for long exposures and wide-angle deep DOF imaging.

It's nothing like a glass lens. But to say that it's bad is not right at all. Pinhole lenses are wonderful tools, and at this price, the only thing better is to drill a hole through a Canon camera body cap and tape over a piece of black wrap with an actual pin-hole in it.

Below is a picture shot on a 5D MKII with this lens at 1600 ISO, 1/8 exposure. You can see the vignette, but also the interesting qualities of the lens.

Even using a tripod and a remote release, I just can't seem to get a satisfying image out of this lens. Don't get me wrong, I love retro-style photography and Holga cameras (Diana, et al), but this lens just doesn't cut it for me. If you like just plain old blurry images, this lens is for you. The sample I'm attaching to this review is the best I can get this lens to produce so far. Admittedly, the photo composition itself is no award winner, but this is just an example of what I've gotten while trying the lens out.

Comments about Holga Pinhole Lens for Canon DSLR Camera:

I used the pinhole lens for taking long exposures on my canon.
The product takes a while to get used to using, and to figure out the proper settings, but once you do it is really easy to use and good for long exposures. It fits the camera well.
It can be tricky to grasp, but if you mess around with the manual settings enough it'll work like it is supposed to.

Comments about Holga Pinhole Lens for Canon DSLR Camera:

I do not like this lens as much as the regular Holga lens. Results are quite unpredictable which can work in the photographer's advantage. But in general, I found myself trying the BULB setting very subjectively. Many times I would get comparable results at half the previous time setting.
LOTS of light needed for this one.

Comments about Holga Pinhole Lens for Canon DSLR Camera:

Granted you can drill a very small hole in a body cap instead, you are hereby graced to pay [$] for this instead so someone on the other side of the planet does it for you. This has learning value and can give a little bit of fun, but that really is it. It is no surprise as this is what this product does, so it is not defective. But you really get dirty pictures as diffraction is extremely severe with a pinhole. Granted you accept to pay [$] for this, it does have almost unlimited depth of field and will let you be legit when saying you've shot a pinhole camera. BTW as you can imagine your shutter speeds are going to have to be low, so prepare your tripod & static subjects. My advice: get the Holga plastic lens instead, the images are more usable and I personally find it momre fun.

About the most fun you can have in photography for less [$] I took a night picture of some street lights and got some of the most interesting halos. Showed it to my son, an ad agency creative director, and he said "it is like something out of the mind of Edgar Allen Poe."

Comments about Holga Pinhole Lens for Canon DSLR Camera:

I got this to experiment with an old look for video. I need to set the camera on ISO 800 outside in full sun to get decent exposure. I haven't looked too closely at the footage but it looks about the way I expected. It was a little more money than I hoped for what it is, but it fit snugly on my camera which is really the important part. I noticed the hole is a little off-center, which might make the angle a bit off, but eh

Comments about Holga Pinhole Lens for Canon DSLR Camera:

              Well, it is a pinhole.

A tripod must be used. The shutter speeds are so very slow.

It is very hard to compose the shot, because you see so little.

You must first take the pictures until the lighting is right. Then move the tripod and camera until the composition is right.

If you work this way, I suppose it could be worth your while.

Comments about Holga Pinhole Lens for Canon DSLR Camera:

The praise is from an equation of novelty + price, but this isn't for everyone. If you do not know about fixed-aperture lenses, pinhole cameras and the like, consider this an inexpensive way to learn ultra-old school photography in the digital age, study light and exposure times, etc. Do not expect the usual clarity. Do not expect even color. Do not expect what you would expect of other lenses.

This is a bicycle compared to a racing motorbike : basic, novelty, and can be a learning experience.

At the price, spending just one day enjoying yourself with it makes it a worthwhile purchase.

I am adding 'blurry focus' as a con, just as a caveat to those who are not familiar with pinhole lenses.

I'll update my review when I try it on a crop sensor. Given the difficulty in creating a small enough aperture, this model may be the best available. It is a little loose, but will stay on the body. It creates the soft focus image expected of long exposures without lens. Room for improvement...
