The Series 3 6X Systematic Carbon Fiber 3-Section Long Tripod from Gitzo is a great choice for those looking for a tripod that features rigid support, yet adaptable and flexible configurations. The Series 3 Long tripods are ideal for supporting larger video or DSLR cameras, and lenses.

The Series 3 tripod has a unique modular system that can be quickly transformed into different configurations, in as little as 15 seconds, and the same tripod can support both photographic and video equipment. Despite a negligible weight of only 4.4 lb, this tripod can be extended to 4.9' high and handle a DSLR with up to a 400mm lens, or a medium-sized spotting scope for bird-watching--up to a 55 lb load capacity.

Series 3 tripods have an Anti Leg Rotation system (ALR), G-Lock, and brushed matte black finish for improved locking performance and minimized reflectivity. A wide selection of accessories allows you to keep growing your system according to your future needs, whether they are still life, macro, outdoor, sport or wildlife applications.

Anti Leg Rotation
This tripod can be opened in less than 15 seconds. Simply loosen all the twist locks on each leg at the same time, then pull the leg down and tighten the locks individually.
G-Lock
For a strong, fast, and safer locking mechanism, G-Lock's special design provides a 'gravity lock' effect: the higher the load applied vertically to the leg, the stronger the lock becomes.
Leg Ends
With removable rubber feet, the Series 3 allows you to easily change worn out rubber feet or to fit other accessories, such as spiked feet.
Hook
A built-in hook allows you to hang a stabilizing weight, like a full camera bag or a sand bag, from the bottom of the tripod head plate. This is helpful when using long, heavy lenses, on uneven ground or in windy conditions.

Comments about Gitzo Series 3 6X Systematic Carbon Fiber 3-Section Tripod (Long):

I bought this because I wanted a stiff, high-quality tripod for my Canon 6D-based system that was tall enough to use without bending over. That may seem easy to find, but it wasn't for me. At 5'8" tall, these legs (with Kirk BH-3) will get my 6D a couple inches higher than what I need, so I'm happy there. This leg set is very stiff and still light in weight. I'll be using this 'till I die.

BTW, Gitzo does not publish the outer diameter of the largest leg tube--it's 1.27".

Have used other carbon fiber tripods, but with the rebate could not resist spending the exra bucks. The legs are very strong and work well with the canon 500mm f4 lens! Light and good leg grips! With the rebate it was an excellent buy....very glad I did.

Finally pulled the trigger and purchased a Gitzo 3532 to support my long lens setup. It is awesome. Very easy set up and light enough to carry with camera and lens attached without irritating my old, damaged shoulder. But the best thing is the results, much sharper images.

Comments about Gitzo Series 3 6X Systematic Carbon Fiber 3-Section Tripod (Long):

We use this trpod for wildlife, and for marco and portraits. The legs are easy to use (big difference from our previous Gitzo where one leg had to be tight in order to adjust the other leg). The center piece is supposed to be more stable for big lenses and the hood is convenient.

Comments about Gitzo Series 3 6X Systematic Carbon Fiber 3-Section Tripod (Long):

I've used many tripods in the past, including carbon fibre. This is by far the best. PERIOD. The Gitzo Systematic series are the best in the world.

Yes it's expensive but you will never need to buy another tripod again.

This is visual eye candy. It has a smooth sensual touch to it, not too cold, not too hot. Sublime.

Comments about Gitzo Series 3 6X Systematic Carbon Fiber 3-Section Tripod (Long):

I use the gitzo with the wimberly sidekick and heavy and lite lenses.

This tripod is is sturdy and carbon fiber reduces the weight.
Glad I opted for 3 section (quicker setup/takedown)
                      It looks great
                      It's a Gitzo

I spent much time deciding between Gitzo Systematic three series and the RRS TVC-33. Both are great solid performers and in the end the price made the me go with Gitzo. Either one is a good choice.

Comments about Gitzo Series 3 6X Systematic Carbon Fiber 3-Section Tripod (Long):

I've never bought a gitzo tripod before so I didn't know what I was in for. This tripod is a work of art in and of itself. It's packaging is lush. The attention to detail is superb. I bought this specifically for taking HDRI's and shooting some occasional video at full extension and this is definitely a very rigid tripod for those purposes; yet it's remarkably light weight. The twist type legs are slower to extend and contract compared to my old manfrotto 458b neotec but the gitzo is lighter, taller, and stiffer, while retaining the neotec's slick profile. My biggest gripe is with how stiff the joints are. This makes it somewhat cumbersom to spread the legs out sometimes. I'll have to look into whether i can loosen these safely - or maybe these will mellow with use on their own. I paired my gitzo with an Acratech GV2 ballhead and the gitzo's large collar somewhat inhibits the GV2's gimble function if that's important to you. I was hesitant to spend this much money on a tripod but so far I feel that I got what I paid for.
