This Series 4 Systematic Carbon Fiber Tripod from Gitzo is an ideal choice for those looking for a tripod that features rigid carbon fiber support, yet adaptable and flexible configurations. The Series 4 systematic tripods are ideal for supporting larger video or DSLR cameras and lenses.

The tripod has a unique modular system that can be quickly transformed into different configurations, and the same tripod can support both photographic and video equipment. While weighing just 5.1 lb, this tripod can support up to 55.1 lb, and can be extended to 61.6" high.

Series 4 tripods have an Anti Leg Rotation system (ALR), G-Lock, and brushed matte black finish for improved locking performance and minimized reflectivity. A wide selection of accessories allows you to keep growing your system according to your future needs, whether they are still life, macro, outdoor, sport or wildlife applications.

Anti Leg Rotation
Simply loosen all the twist locks on each leg at the same time, then pull the leg down and tighten the locks individually.
G-Lock
For a strong, fast, and safer locking mechanism, G-Lock's special design provides a 'gravity lock' effect: the higher the load applied vertically to the leg, the stronger the lock becomes.
Leg Ends
With removable rubber feet, the Series 3 allows you to easily change worn out rubber feet or to fit other accessories, such as spiked feet.
Hook
A built-in hook allows you to hang a stabilizing weight, like a full camera bag or a sand bag, from the bottom of the tripod head plate. This is helpful when using long, heavy lenses, on uneven ground or in windy conditions.

Comments about Gitzo Series 4 Systematic Carbon Fiber Tripod (Long):

I was using a Gitzo Series 3 but bought some bigger glass and decided to move up to a Series 4. In addition to the greater stability, I found that the GT X5X2 tripods have added a lot of great features compared to the GT X5X1 tripods. 1) There's a built in base tightening/loosening system, so you don't have to carry wrenches for that; 2) There's a safety catch system so even if the clamp comes loose the base plate can't fall out; 3) The package includes all of the different feet -- spikes with rubber covers, rubber feet, and snowshoe feet. It's somewhat heavy but extremely stable. I'm really glad I bought it.

    Awesome

    By Mike T

    from Midlands, UK

Comments about Gitzo Series 4 Systematic Carbon Fiber Tripod (Long):

Thanks to B&H having a full display of Gitzso tripods I was able to confirm my choice against the 3 and 5 tripods. Together with a Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Head this is an awesome setup with my Canon 500 f/4. The height that the tripod extends to means it suitable for just about anybody. It provides a really stable base feeling rock solid with camera/lens combo. Very easy to setup and take down with the quick release locks on the legs and the variable angle adjustment is simple and effective to use. The weight is noticeably lighter than the 5 series
The tripod is expensive but you get one of the best carbon fibre tripods going for your money

Comments about Gitzo Series 4 Systematic Carbon Fiber Tripod (Long):

It is an overview. Hope the figure attached will help. Apologies for the overcrowded information. Gitzo company does not provide much information. This is the reason of 4* rating. At the top/shoulder part of the tripod, Gitzo Systematic, IMO may be one of the best tripods, due to the built in locking/tightening mechanism of the top flat plate, and easiness of replacement. At the legs level, it may be seconded by(next after) the equivalent size from RRS, in this case, the Versa 3 tripods. Do not know about other brands. At the feet level, again, could be one of the best, due to the large selection of feet accessories. Add to this, the availability of Gitzo spare parts. These are just a personal opinion. This tripod is not for travelers. Though, digital photographers today are looking for a feather weight tripods, this tripod is not overdo for SLR digital applications. But, at the same time it is a light tripod and needs a proper technique when used with heavy weighted large format cameras(like any other similar tripod).* Use a large size tripod head, clamp and camera plate.* Physics still the same, heavier is sturdier. Hook at the bottom of the top plate is not optional in all CF tripods. Add a sand bag or use a triangular rock/weight bag tightened to the upper leg sections. Watch movement.* Extend the tripod legs enough, but not completely. Leave ~2 inches of each leg section inside the upper tube. Tighten the G-Locks well.* Use larger rubber/spike feet when proper. Tighten it periodically, or use semi-permanent liquid.Other precautions at camera level, ground, etc.Hope this useful.

I only have one regret: that I didn't buy a Gitzo a few years ago. I use this in conjunction with a Really Right Stuff BH-55 head. It is rock solid. The heaviest lens I use is the 300 F2.8 L IS mk I lens and it hold that with no issues at all.
