The Series 5 6X Systematic 3-Section Standard Tripod from Gitzo is a great choice for those looking for a tripod that features professional support, yet adaptable and flexible configurations. The Series 5 Standard tripods are ideal for supporting larger video or DSLR cameras, and lenses.

The Series 5 tripod has a unique modular system that can be quickly transformed into different configurations the same tripod to support both photographic and video equipment. This tripod can be extended to 4.3' high and handle a DSLR with up to an 800mm lens.

Series 5 tripods have an Anti Leg Rotation system (ALR), G-Lock, and brushed matte black finish for improved locking performance and minimized reflectivity. A wide selection of accessories allows you to keep growing your system according to your future needs, whether they are still life, macro, outdoor, sport or wildlife applications.

Anti Leg Rotation
This tripod can be opened in less than 15 seconds. Simply loosen all the twist locks on each leg at the same time, then pull the leg down and tighten the locks individually.
G-Lock
For a strong, fast, and safer locking mechanism, G-Lock's special design provides a 'gravity lock' effect: the higher the load applied vertically to the leg, the stronger the lock becomes.
Leg Ends
With removable rubber feet, the Series 3 allows you to easily change worn out rubber feet or to fit other accessories, such as spiked feet.
Hook
A built-in hook allows you to hang a stabilizing weight, like a full camera bag or a sand bag, from the bottom of the tripod head plate. This is helpful when using long, heavy lenses, on uneven ground or in windy conditions.

Comments about Gitzo Series 5 6X Systematic 3-Section Tripod (Standard):

I have a Nikon 600mm f/4 and was looking at medium-load tripods, not wanting to spend the extra few hundred dollars for this Series 5, but in the field it is so stable and quick to adjust that I'm glad I went "heavy." It's very precisely and thoughtfully designed and constructed. With the Wimberley WH-200 head I have the perfect combination

Comments about Gitzo Series 5 6X Systematic 3-Section Tripod (Standard):

I have the previous version (2010-2011) of this tripod. The new up-grades are just added perks to an already excellent pro carbon fiber tripod. I added to mine Gitzo leg wraps, a Gitzo leveling plate (which I blue Loctited in place along with the locking bolt.) Now not needed (if it ever really was. I beleive in overkill protection Better safe then sorry!) because of the new grooved channel that hold's/lock's plates into place. Now, with the new verion, plates are locked in place, and can be quick changed at will. I put on top of the leveling plate a Wimberly WH200 VR2 Gimbel head for use with a 300mm f2.8 lens, a 400mm f2.8 lens, and a 600mm f4 lens. With len's that cost a small fortune as these do, why would you take a chance of putting them on any lesser of a tripod? This tripod is reasonably light for it's size and the weight it can carry. (The new version even holds a greater weight.) It is sturdy, and very rigid, and has a wide stance for stability. It's very well made, and really your only option for a large, or heavy camera and large super telephoto lens! When only the very best will do, and the shot depends on it, and the stability and safety of your very expensive set-up/equipment depends on it: I personally feel the Gitzo Systematic 5 series tripods are the very best choice and worth the expense. When your reputation depends on the shot's you take, it often all depends on the quality of the equipment you use. If, you already possess the ability/insight, that gift to see that perfect shot before hand in your mind's eye. (I gave it five stars. But, for some reason my system will not accept/acknowledge the fifth star when I tap it? Whenever I review something and it has four stars showing; it really is supposed to be five stars!)

Comments about Gitzo Series 5 6X Systematic 3-Section Tripod (Standard):

This is a great tripod for the money. Nice & light, yet very, very stable. Leg locks could be a bit of a pain for some, but after 5 years with a Miller CF tripod i am more than used to it. Leg spikes are awesome, & allow great purchase on even the hardest ground. Could use a strap to tie the legs together when carrying it on a shoulder. I bought a chest strap for a camel back & used that to great effect, now when i hike with the tripod on my shoulder i only have to be holding on to one of the legs! Goes super low for those close to the ground shots with a tripod head mounted. Would like to see it supplied with a bag but there are plenty here @ B&H to choose from! If you want a tripod that is relatively light, super stable, extremely versatile in how it can be set up, this is the one to get!
