The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V Digital Camera puts 18.2Mp, 1080/60p video capture, and the grip and styling of a DSLR in the palm of your hand. Designed for the more active shooter with a need for a better grip than that of a traditional point-and-shoot, the HX200V goes the distance. It works hard to provide you with great looking images and the extensively functionality achieve them.

18.2Mp images just don't happen. An entire system has to come together to make it possible. The HX200V provides you with the tools needed, including Active 3-Way Optical Image Stabilization, a 3.0" Xtra Fine LCD TruBlack display, and a Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T 30x optical zoom lens. The lens also utilizes a 60x Clear Image Zoom.

A number of auto modes come into play when shooting the HX200V as well. From GPS and Compass functionality for geo-tagging to iSCN for automatically adjusted camera settings, Sony gave the HX200V a host of features that take the guesswork out of shooting. Other highlights include 10 fps burst shooting, Background Defocus, and Anti-blink. And of course, no matter what you're shooting, the camera accepts Sony's Memory Stick Duo media as well as SD/SDHC and SDXC memory cards.

18.2 Megapixel Back-Illuminated Exmor R CMOS Image Sensor
The 18.2MP Exmor R CMOS sensor captures ultra-high definition images that take full advantage of the camera's sharp Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens. The sensor enables advanced processing that reduces noise levels resulting in stunning low light images with incredible details
High Speed AF
To improve focusing speed and sensitivity, the Exmor R CMOS sensor uses its rapid throughput to deliver high-quality image signals to the camera's BIONZ processor. The result is fast, DSLR-like focusing speeds, even in low light
Optical Zoom Plus Clear Image Zoom
Most digital zooms use electronic cropping to get closer to the subject, resulting in unsharp images. With Clear Image Zoom the powerful processor compares patterns found in adjacent pixels and creates new pixels to match selected patterns, resulting in more realistic, higher-quality images. Clear Image Zoom doubles optical zoom for closer photos
Full HD 1080/60p
Record crystal clear movies at the highest resolution available with capabilities for 60p in 1080. This provides stunning, fast motion video with less distortion for playback on your HDTV. With dual record of stills and movies, you can shoot both at the same time
Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization with 3-Way Active Mode
Optical SteadyShot image stabilization reduces shake and blur by countering camera movements in both horizontal and vertical directions. Active 3-Way stabilization adds digital rolling control that counters clockwise and anti-clockwise rotation, resulting in more stable videos even at long focal lengths
GPS and Compass
GPS and compass record location data and camera direction as you shoot movies and photos. GPS Log lets users track a photographic journey and later view the path and images on a map. Map View in "Play Memories Home" software, allows users to view images on a map showing where they were taken. The logged path and images can also be displayed on Google Earth
Capture the Decisive Moment with Up to 10 fps
Capture full 18.2 megapixel resolution images at up to 10 frames per second, helping to ensure that the decisive moment is captured such as the soccer ball flying into the goal. In addition, a mechanical shutter helps reduce distortion when continuously shooting moving subjects
3D Still Image and 3D Sweep Panorama Mode
Produce awe-inspiring images with 3D still image and 3D Sweep Panorama capabilities. Photos will take on a new dimension of creative capabilities for viewing the world in a whole new way
Picture Effect for More Expressive Photos
Picture Effect adds a new level of expression to photos, making ordinary landscapes and portraits come to life by heightening mood and emphasizing certain attributes. Select camera models have up to nine different effects
Photo Creativity
Photo Creativity allows you to fine-tune your exposure settings, such as brightness, color, and vividness, and quickly choose the right enhancement for your subject. Now you can view Picture Effects and Photo Creativity effects in real time on the camera's monitor or in the viewfinder before shooting
Background Defocus
DSLR photographs are often beautiful because they blur the background, putting the emphasis on the subject. Now our point-and-shoot cameras can deliver this signature DSLR benefit. The system takes two shots, identifies the background and applies a defocused background keeping the subject crisp and clear
Intelligent Sweep Panorama HR Mode
With Intelligent Sweep Panorama HR mode just press the shutter, pan the landscape and let the camera do the rest. It automatically links together each frame to produce a high resolution panoramic image providing the ability to zoom in on small details. This model even detects faces and moving subjects to stitch intelligently different widths to help avoid subject distortion
Superior Auto Mode
Get cleaner, more dynamic pictures and fewer missed shots. The camera automatically recognizes the correct scene mode, then quickly shoots and combines up to six shots to produce images with greater clarity, optimum dynamic range using backlight correction HDR technology and lower image noise using 6 shots layering technology. Superior Auto intelligently detects 33 scenes for still images and movies, making it easy to get the best shot
Face Detection Technology
Face Detection technology detects up to eight individual faces and adjusts focus, exposure, and white balance to help deliver crisp, properly lit images of family and friends
Smile Shutter Technology
Smile Shutter technology captures a smile the moment it happens. Simply press the Smile Shutter button and the camera does the rest. You can also select adult and child priority and indicate the degree of Smile Detection sensitivity. Intelligent Scene Recognition can now be used together with Smile Shutter™ mode when the Intelligent Auto mode is on. This means that beautiful smiles can be captured with settings optimized for the particular scene, even in difficult conditions such as twilight and backlighting
Anti-Blink Function
It's frustrating to capture the perfect shot, only to review it later and discover subjects blinked during the photo. The Anti-blink function works to help counter blinking and squinting. When the camera is set to Soft Snap, the Anti-blink function captures two images, recording only the photo with less squinting. If a blink is detected in other shooting modes, a warning will be displayed after you take the shot
Soft Skin Mode
Portrait subjects will love the results. Soft Skin mode recognizes skin tones and reduces the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles without affecting the rest of the shot
Intelligent Scene Recognition Mode
Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) Mode automatically detects 33 different types of scenes and selects the appropriate camera settings. In Auto Mode, the camera takes a single shot using the optimal settings. In Advanced Mode, the camera takes a photo with the optimal settings and, if in difficult lighting (low light or back light) immediately takes a second photo with another optimized setting so you can choose which to keep
Natural Flash
Conventional point-and-shoot camera flash shots just don't capture colors the way the eye sees them. Natural Flash controls the white balance of both the background and main subjects
Panorama Still Image Size
Sweep Panorama: HR (10,480 x 4,096) / Wide (7,152 x 1,080 / 4,912 x 1,920) / Standard (4,912 x 1,080 / 3,424 x 1,920)

I am a pro/am photographer, who has owned numerous cameras. At one time, if you ever told me that any camera other than Nikon would satisfy my needs, and be tops in image quality, I would have deemed that person insane! I also use a Nikon DSLR with several lenses, and have owned several super zooms. The super zooms were previously lacking in image quality, or aimed at an amateur market exclusively, due to lack of manual control, and poor overall design. I tried Lumix, Ninon, Canon and found all of the one lens cameras to be lacking in one way or another.

This Sony Hx200V is in virtually every way the equal of my Nikon in image quality. I've read reviews of super zooms that indicate a lack of quality of image at extreme focal lengths. Do you have any idea how much a 800 or 1000 mm Nikon or Canon lens costs? Also, would you like to carry that around on a daily basis? My DSLR bag weighs 7 pounds with the body and multiple lenses. This gem from Sony weighs 1.2 pounds, and can go places optically that my SLR just can't reach, let alone do it with superb image quality. If I could, I would post images I took today , and I doubt you could tell the difference between the two. I use a 27" iMac with the best display in the industry, and find the Sony to be outstanding in every respect. In addition, it is intuitive to use, versatile, and has many manual options for advanced photographers. B and H was extremely professional, and shipped IMMEDIATELY. I cannot recommend them highly enough! BUY this superb camera, and give up on finding anything better--it does not exist!

I chose this model for better zoom capabilities. I am still getting used to the many controls to get clear images of birds. The choice of fully automatic or some manual options is helpful, although it takes a bit of tinkering to navigate all the menus.

Considering that this camera is a compromise between a Digital SLR and automatic point and shoot, the extra time spent learning how to create the best shot is not unreasonable.

So far the longest zoom has yielded somewhat "painterly" (the term in a review I consulted prioer to purchase) results. However, I am pretty sure I can learn to get crisper closeups of birds with more practice.

A couple of issues: the white balance adjustment takes 2-3 additional steps, vs just one button-push for my other point and shoot that doesn't provide good zoom resolution. The compromise hopefully will be worth it.

The time it takes to write the info to memory causes a pause when you can't shoot a picture, potentially missing a good shot. This possibly made up for by the multi-frame repeat shooting mode that takes multiple shots in a rapid burst.

After the initial learning process is over, it promises to be a rewarding experience.

I bought this camera mainly for hiking and for conventions I go to and other outdoor activities. I know the HX300 series is out and tried it at the Sony store yet even though it has a greater zoom I wanted GPS so I have been looking at the HX200v for quite a while.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V Digital Camera:

This camera with this price at B&H is unbeatable with the features this camera offers. If you don't need the bell and whistles, then a Fuji will be a much better choice. This camera has about the same IQ as the Canon HS40. The HX200V has a bit of noise in the low light pictures but the outdoor pictures outweigh that con. Also, the EVF is a welcome addition in bright sunlight. I found myself using it more than the LCD, though the LCD is top quality.

I really do enjoy using my new HX200V. The Micro mode is much too finicky but everything else is great. It has great zoom and auto focus, that is unless you are trying to zoom within a short distance of the object. But I am still new to using it so I am sure I will get used to all of the features eventually.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V Digital Camera:

Pictures are crisp and clear even at long zoom length. The colors compared with a dslr may not appear as rich as you like but you can easily adjust on this camera. The pics are excellent and sharper than my dslr The zoom quality starts to deteriorate a bit once you pass the30x and begin using the dogital zoom which goes up to past 100x. But hey you don't have to carry around ta lens the size of a small child either. Yes, the camera does not fit in you pocket but as a frequent traveler who loves to take pics and has owned many cameras. This is by far the best travel camera I have ever used in terms of being able to carry easily and to take superb pictures quickly without having to worry about settings, lenses, etc. low light and flash performance also impress. In camera editing is very basic and pretty useless. Menu is fairly easy to navigate. Highly recommend.

I shopped bridge cameras for a few months until I found this camera at B and H for an excellent price, well below the competition cameras such as Nikon P520, Canon SX50. I recently used the camera extensively on vacation with various shooting conditions. I was happy with the size, the options for various types of pictures. I found it easy and comfortable to operate. No problem with battery. I recommend this camera for those who are in the market for a good bridge camera.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V Digital Camera:

When researching for a new camera, my main reasoning was to get a great concert camera. I want a far zoom and great picture quality. I discovered cheaper cameras that zoomed far like I wanted but none really had the great picture quality like the HX200V did.

The picture quality is better the less you zoom in, which is normal.

I've been able to get some amazing pictures of the moon with this camera that were breathtaking.

As for experiences at concerts with this camera... I've taken it to 3 concerts so far. The pictures I took at the one where I was closest, were amazing and poster worthy. The other two concerts I was decent distance away; however, I was still able to zoom in all the way to the stage and get nice pictures! There were moments during the concert were I went to take a picture and the camera was either too slow or just wouldn't take the picture.. which was frustrating but the quality of the other pictures were enough to let it go.

The multiple shots option is a huge plus and the movie quality is amazing!

I've been using this camera for over a year now & I think its the best camera for panoramic shooting at a reasonable price you can find. I have been shooting panoramas for about fifteen years with digital and doing my own stitching with a program and this camera takes all that out of the mix. The first camera Sony hx-100 had panorama sweep but it was'nt hi-def quality, this one is and the results of my prints are tremendous.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V Digital Camera:

I very much enjoy using this camera, and even better are the incredible shots I can get. Shooting out a airplane window, it's like having binoculars.

Two cons - in extreme heat and humidity, it will overheat. Not necessarily the camera's fault, as I suffer the same way.
Some of the buttons are too easy to hit when holding the camera. I find I'm making changes I don't know about unintentionally, and then trying to figure out what I did and how to change it back.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V Digital Camera:

I purchased this camera after my son acquired one last year. It is an impressive piece of technology that is easy to use. I practiced for a couple of hours taking shots while hiking and have all the daylight modes pretty much down pat. The zoom is like magic, I use it for birds. Great in good to medium light although things get a bit grainy in the low light of forest conditions. Love the GPS, especially when birding, since I can take a picture and record the bird's location at the same time.

This camera is great value for money but it has a couple of minor drawbacks. With the GPS switched on the battery life seems to be shortened. Solution: buy a second battery. It charges fairly slowly so I purchased a battery charger as well. The manual is really a starter manual with the full version online. I like to carry manuals with me just in case I forget how to use something. Out of range of data service an online manual is pretty useless.

My biggest peeve is that it rattles slightly. I was disturbed by this at first but it is apparently (according to Sony) OK. Certainly, rattle or not, it is the best value camera I have owned so far!

I'll use this camera on extended trips and at home for wildlife and pets. So far I am very pleased with all the features (haven't learned them all!) and the quality of photos.
