Let me start by saying buying a hard drive is a catch-22. You need to use the drive for some time (~1 year) to gauge its true reliability, but without knowing reliability it's impossible to choose a hard drive in the first place. ALL hard drive manufacturers occasionally suffer from bad batches of drives (Hitachi 'deathstars' anyone?) and all mechanical drives will fail at some point, so I'm pretty skeptical of reviews that claim one brand is clearly superior to another. Now to the drive itself. It's very compact, about the size of two decks of cards next to each other. It weighs 191 grams with the included USB 3.0 cable. The cable itself is about 18" long. It's preformatted to NTFS with a true capacity of 931 GB. My two computers (Win7P x32, Win7HP x64) had no problems recognizing the drive using both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports. There was NO BLOATWARE or other backup software preloaded, and it did NOT try to mount a virtual drive either. The enclosure is plastic but I haven't noted any issues with the build quality, and the USB connector appears to be solid. There's a blue LED activity light but no power switch. The drive is audible when the drive is really working but I wouldn't go as far to say it's 'noisy'. At $[$] from B+H it is one of the most affordable portable 1TB drives on the market right now (Aug 2012).The only two dings I can think off is (1) there's no included case, so handle it carefully, and (2) B+H's packaging leaves a little to be desired. My drive was packed in a padded envelope (not a box) and arrived with 2 crushed corners. Luckily only the outer box was damaged and not the hard drive itself, but other buyers may not be so lucky.

Nice drive, but runs a bit warm
Fast USB 3.0 speed, worked easily out of the box. However, the cable is a proprietary one that's not a typical USB cable, and the drive runs a bit warm with extended use....Read complete review

Fast data transfer rate with a really nice look and feel. You'll have to look up how to get it to work with a mac though (it's really simple) but just in case anyone has a mac it thought I'd throw that out there.

Comments about HGST 1 TB Touro Mobile MX3 USB 3.0 External Hard Disk Drive (Black):
With a 1TB Hitachi hard drive the size of my open hand it's hard to imagine needing more storage; at least not before my next two cameras are outdated or worn out clunkers. Really? One Trillion?

Comments about HGST 1 TB Touro Mobile MX3 USB 3.0 External Hard Disk Drive (Black):
I needed extra space for photos and video storage and I use both Macs and PCs. It is technically compatible with both, but you have to format it to FAT 32 - which is a bit less secure. Overall, it's sleeker than my other Seagate 1TB hard drive and seems to work just as well. No complaints here.

Comments about HGST 1 TB Touro Mobile MX3 USB 3.0 External Hard Disk Drive (Black):
This is my first external hard drive and i gotta say it works just how i expected it to. Im a beginner photographer and this has enough storage for the purpose that i use it. It has a nice smooth texture all around. its fast and works really good. The only thing that i noticed is that it started to make a little noise when importing videos to it. im not sure if its supposed to do that or if its just working hard. It got me a little worried but it still works fine so ill give it a while before i actually say something negative about it or talk to customer service about it. But yes this is a great product ! Its small enough to fit in my pants! if you are on a tight budget and is looking for some storage this is the way to go! check it out.

I use this external hard drive for saving videos from editing on final cut pro as well as saving audio interviews for my journalism classes. I love how simple it is to use! You simply format it, which is a super easy process, and then start saving just like a flash drive. I also got it for an awesome price so overall, awesome deal! Very satisfied!

Comments about HGST 1 TB Touro Mobile MX3 USB 3.0 External Hard Disk Drive (Black):
Price was great for this product. I did a lot of research and this one had the best reviews for the price. It's smaller than I thought it would be and I have bought a case to keep it in so dust and dog hair don't get it in. There were no instructions or if they were the print was so tiny I couldn't read it. I wasn't sure how to operate it or if something was suppose to prompt you or not. I just copied and pasted the documents I wanted to back up. I backed up pretty much my whole computer and my husbands and still have a LOT of space left.

Comments about HGST 1 TB Touro Mobile MX3 USB 3.0 External Hard Disk Drive (Black):
I bought the 1 TB Touro unit because it was the least expensive 1 TB unit available. The size was an added plus. Other 1 TB drives I've purchased were not readily transportable; this one is. Unlike other high-capacity portable external hard drives I've purchased, I didn't have to format it or otherwise prep it for use. I plugged it in and started storing data. Very reliable and easy-to-use in the time I've had it.

I opened it up and immediately put 150 gigs on it. Transfer rate is good on USB 2.0, the cable is adequate in length and secure when plugged in. Drive is well worth the money!

Great external storage for on the go. Doesn't need a power supply and is compact. Comes with drive and usb 3.0 cable nothing else. Drive has a blue indicator light to show when plugged in.
I haven't had it long enough to judge reliability but I've had another Hitachi drive (external desktop) for a couple years with no problems.

Comments about HGST 1 TB Touro Mobile MX3 USB 3.0 External Hard Disk Drive (Black):
The Hitachi Touro mobile works great if you have usb 3.0 ports. Very fast and silent. The only drawback is a lot of people have those ports on the back of their case. The included cable is way too short at only about a foot long. I would have liked to have seen a 3 foot or 1 meter cable included but otherwise a great product.
