Great product, I love its small size and considerable speed. Everything is better than expected really, but I'll concentrate here on these tiny annoyances that surfaced on my watch.
The first problem concerns the scanning software. What's annoying about it is that, though it will let you save in several file formats including PDF and JPG, you can't save a single scanning session more than once.
Say you want to scan 100 pages out of a document, like an agenda. You'd like to have these pages in different date folders. So you save the document as 100 separate PDFs. However, for the sake of convenience and fast reference, you'd also like to have a single PDF containing all of your scanned documents.
Well you can't do that. Once you have selected a file format, the software wipes the scans out of its working memory. If you want the same images in a second format as well, you'll need a special program to do the conversion and merging for you.
Frankly, its just easier to do the scanning again and choose the second file layout on this second go.
Secondly, the cancel button never works. If you're half way through a scan and press cancel, the software will stop saying that it is scanning and rather will declare it is canceling. But otherwise your plea is ignored and the document will continue its voyage through the scanner - even if a half-jam is haphazardly tearing it apart, which is common when you feed your machine something bizarre like a big sheet folded in half (for which the machine is not designed). Once the scan is completed, even after you've canceled it, you'll have the option to save the image, exactly as if you had never canceled. This renders the cancel button completely useless.
Besides these two remarks, I repeat, I am very satisfied with this product and would buy again.
The colour is accurate, but only if you do some custom tuning.

The Reference Guide gives you one set of instructions and the User's Guide which I had to print (only available in supplied setup disc) gives contradictory information. They have two different scanning systems. One is called "CaptureOnTouch Lite" which uses the built=in software in the scanner, and the other is called "CaptureOnTouch" which requires you to install software from the supplied disc. The instructions misguide you to think the built-in software is all you need for Windows OS or for Mac OS. Not true. User's Guide states to install the software from the provided setup disc. Same for Mac. The Reference Guide does not allude to any of this. The only way to determine this comes from reading the User's Guide which is imbedded in the setup disc. The User's Guide gives many caveats in the form of hints warning the user about possible reduced functioning capabilities. There are not just one or two but a bushel full. I'm not kidding. If I could return this product to you, I would. I'm looking for another scanner and data management system to eliminate paper filing.

Bought this for personal/HO use to intiate converting to all digital record keeping. The 2 choices I came to were this Canon unit and the equivalent Fujitsu unit. Both Canon & Fujitsu offer similar desktop units that are about $100 more. The main reason I choose the Canon was it is Twain compatible wereas the Fujitsu is not and runs proprietary software. The software installed and works fine for my purposes -can't comment on every last aspect of the software as I doubt I will ever use every feature. The unit is smaller than I envisioned it and appears to be built well. By purchasing it from B&H the carrying case was included at no extra charge and the sale price was one of the lowest I could find. Overall I'm quite pleased. I have an all-in-one printer w/scanner but the scanner is much slower (ppm) and for this conversion effort would have made watching grass grow exciting. BTW an AC adapter is not included, check [*] for a low cost alterantive 6.5v adapter. :-)

This is a great little scanner. I'm very happy with it and I'm glad I spent the extra 30 bucks over the Fujitsu ScanSnap. It's very fast and the colors from my old handwritten college notes including highlights are very vibrant.PROS: Lightweight, takes up little desk space, very fast, scans up to 20 pages at a time, can delete and rearrange pages after scanning, scans directly into Evernote and Google Docs, vibrant colors, easy set up, works right out of the box without any software install if you want, no delay creating searchable pdf, scans laminated ID cards well, unless you do a ton of scanning this can serve as a small primary scanner whether you plan to use it on the go or not.CONS: must choose custom install to get all the great features, AC power cord not included (while it's not necessary, and it works fine/fast with the USB connection, it should be included or not an option at all, especially since they claim it works even faster with AC power)

I've used 5 different scanners so far, and this is by far the best one I've used. It's so versatile. If you have a lot of documents to scan, it lets you scan in batches as long as there is enough memory and then save them in one file. Once you scan the documents, you can either choose to delete some pages or re-order the pages before you save. (Once you save the file, you can't change it.) It's portable and takes up very little space. I've only been using the basic functions, and I can't comment on the other ones yet.

Needed a portable scanner that did double-sided (duplex) scanning; tried the Brother DS-700D but it was severely underpowered and the scans came through very badly (which is too bad since I like Brother products usually - the scanner only had one USB interface cable but it did have a hidden power port which I wonder if I plugged in a compatible power adapter would have fixed the underpower problem, but I digress); I got this scanner and a carrying case thrown in from B&H and so far it has worked marvelously; it is slightly heavier than other portable scanners, and its annoying that it has two totally separate USB cables (one for power and one for data), but otherwise it works exactly as advertised; further you can use it with built-in driver software or with installed TWAIN software; built-in software works great and scans directly to built-in software that allows for saving as PDF's or other image formats

I am a mobile business user and was looking for a solution for scanning client's docs at their homes, so that i did not have to deal with originals after. I had a scansnap S300 but my problem was the fact that it was too bulky so my computer bag had to bigger and heavier. Canon P-215 was a great solution and works with one cable, scansnap needed 2 usb connections, it's thin enough that i can fit on my regular messenger bag and it's fast at scanning with a very good quality for documents. I prefer the P-215 over other models which are smaller but you have to feed the paper by hand because i scan multiple page docs average 15 pages per file, so i don't have the patience to feed page by page. Overall it was a great buy if compared to current competitors, but now, if Canon follows social media and happen to see this post, here is how to make a very happy customer:
Same size, battery powered with an SD card and wifi or bluetooth so that i can view the scanned docs on my smart phone that way when meeting clients i don't have to take 5 min turning the computer on and loading all the necessary software and if cannon make an app that i can delete pages, rotate and send pdf docs by email i would appreciate it as well.
