The black Digital Holster 20 V2.0 from Think Tank contains a unique "Pop Down" feature that allows the lens hood to be kept on the camera held in shooting position. For the active shooter, this is a real time-saver. The case is made to hold a regular-sized DSLR such as a Canon 5D Mark II, 7D or Nikon D700 with a standard zoom attached or when the "Pop Down" feature is employed, it can accommodate a DSLR with a 70-200mm f/2.8 with hood reversed.

This is a form-fitting case, somewhat reminiscent of a western holster - ready to draw and shoot at a moment's notice. The case comes with a side rail attachment that accepts a small Modular, Skin, or Multimedia component. This increases the footprint and capacity of the holster as well as your shooting capabilities. The holster comes with Think Tank's "Rotate or Lock" technology for their Pro Speed Belt, Thin Skin Belt or Steroid Speed Belt that permits you to attach the holster with no effort at all. There is also a smooth fabric on the belt to minimize friction against your body. One of the best features of the bag is that the lid opens away from your body. This enhances access to your gear as well as adding a significant security aspect to the bag since, when opened, the lid acts a shield preventing others from seeing what's inside. The removable shoulder strap and top grab handle are complemented by dual zippers that guard the access to the main compartment.

For accessories, a front stretch pocket can hold lens caps, batteries and other small items. Another touch fastened small accessory pocket is located under the top lid that is perfect for holding a filter. For ultimate protection of the delicate LCD screen on your DSLR, a soft divider fits over the top protecting it from the strap that may be stuffed inside.

There's nothing like networking so the bag comes with a neat business card holder right under the top grab handle. Finally, for maximum protection while outside, the bag comes with a built-in rain cover that is stored in an outside pocket and which can be easily deployed when the weather turns against you. The holster comes with Think Tank's lifetime warranty against manufacturer's defects.

Form-fitting to hold a standard DSLR with zoom lens - or - when "Pop Down" feature is used, it will hold your DSLR with a 70-200mm f/2.8 attached (hood reversed)
Extending "Pop Down" allows lens hood to be kept in shooting position
Integrated side attachment system for connecting a Modular, Skin or Multimedia component to holster
Stretchable front pocket for small accessories
Holster lid opens forward, away from the body, for fast and easy access to the camera

Without extension & internal separator removed, fits the following attached to a Canon 5D3, no grip:
      100L,hood reversed (good fit).
      24-70LII,hood reversed (slightly tight).
24TS-E with/without hood (tight fit with, OK without).
      16-35LII, hood reversed (slightly tight).
Zeiss 21, hood fitted (easy fit).

      With extension:
      70-200L2.8isII, hood reversed (good fit).
70-200L f/4isII, hood reversed (bag slightly too long).

I use it almost exclusively with the 24-70, where the slightly tight fit makes it a bit slow to extract, but at least it's secure. The extension effectively gives you a further four inches of useable length (still not long enough for either of the 70-200s with hood). The lens barrel part of the bag is easily wide enough for the 82mm filter size lenses above - length is the restricting factor. Haven't tried any other combos. If your lens/body is smaller than any of the above, you'll be fine - you can tune the depth of the bag via the supplied and removeable velcro separator - this only really works when the extension isn't used as there's no hook & loop in the extension. There's very little padding in the side walls of the extension. If you regularly need to carry longer lenses, I'd get one of the longer models.

In the first four body/lens scenarios above, there's not much room for a thick strap - I'm using an OP/Tech Pro Super Classic which has quite a thick neoprene pad and is a struggle to fit with the 24-70. Perfectly do-able, but you'd be better off with a thinner pad. The shoulder strap of the bag itself has heavy dog-lead style metal attachment clips and the pad isn't that comfortable although it doesn't slip. Feels a bit cheap compared to the rest of the bag, which is generally very nicely made. I replaced it. For belt attachment, you need a 2" to 2.5" wide strap (not necessarily TTP). Any less and the bag flops around. There's a removeable, padded flap inside at the top to protect your rear screen from strap buckles/stuff in the top pocket, which I like. Nice touch.

On balance, probably the best range of holster bags out there, as long as they fit your kit. Slightly better than the Tamrac 5000 series bags, but only slightly. I think the extension idea is gimmicky and I'd rather not have it as it doesn't offer enough protection when in use. Needs a better shoulder strap, too. Various pockets and attachment points are well thought out and unobtrusive when you don't need them (room for a filter or two and battery). Pricing is good for what you get. However, if you need to carry more than one body and attached lens, you need a different type of bag.

I use a Mark III with a skin and hand strap. Had to loose the Velcro padded protector (an internal flap to help protect the rear screen) to get it to fit. Also the lens portion is tight fitting if you like using a lens hood but it works. If you use an eye cup on this large a camera it won't work without a fight.

I use this as a stand alone bag as well as an attachment to Backpacking and Day packs. It is a snugfit and can be 'unziped' to gain room for a longer lense. One addition I would make would be to add a molle system attach point as so it would intergrate with some of my other equipment a little better.

Comments about Think Tank Photo Digital Holster 20 V2.0 (Black):

I purchased this camera bag to take my Nikon digital SLR backpacking. It appears to be well made although I haven't used it in the field yet. If you plan to backpack with it you need to purchase the separate backpack connection kit. I wish it was offered as a backpacking package with the connection kit instead of the shoulder strap (which I will never use). I believe the V2.0 is advertised that it will fit a Nikon DSLR with a 24-70 zoom, however, you have to kind of jam it in against the padded lens ring to make that fit (with my D600 anyway), and that's not what I want to do. I am still looking forward to using it with my D200 and smaller kit lens which is what I will more than likely take on the trail.

Comments about Think Tank Photo Digital Holster 20 V2.0 (Black):

A nice bag for protecting the camera while also providing fairly quick access. I use on hikes so I can keep the camera protected and still have it available at a moments notice. Takes a good grip to pull out the camera if a weighty lens is attached.

I use this for by my 6D w/ two different lenses, the 28-70 f.28 and the 70-200 f2.8. By zipping down the bottom compartment I can change the length of the bag to accommodate the zoom. The company recommends the larger Digital Holster 30 version for holding the f2.8 70-200mm lens, but for me, I'm ok w/ reversing the lens hood before putting it in this bag but if you want to have the 70-200 w/ the hood in the normal position, then get the next model larger.

The velcro strips and partitions in the bag provide for flexibility.

My one 'con' is the shoulder strap. It's simply not that comfortable when going on a longer hike. I find it's more convenient to use a curved shoulder strap from a Canon bag. Also, the metal parts are a little squeaky.

I'd buy again. Well, actually I did own the Digital Holster 10 prior, but that model was too small for the 6D.

I wanted a bag to carry just my camera & attached lens. Something that would give plenty of protection without being too bulky.
This bag does that & more. The pop down feature gives it the versatility of two bags.

To transport my 300mm lens is ideal and even more if the lens is 500mm you can open an additional extension in the same bag. It also has an elasticated side pocket to store and the other end to hang a small monopod or tripod. I recommend it anyway.

When I don't want to carry a large bag this one is the one I love to use.
fits my cannon 7d , keeps my camera dry if it rains, love the open to body cover so you can see and get your camera out easy.
Has inside pocket for extra cards or battery.
                          also come with rain cover
                          case is built to last.

this is a must have to take you camera with you without carry a large bag.

Great bag for a 7d with 25-105, but has room for something longer as well. Great quality, comfortable and all around perfect!

This is my third Think Tank photo gear bag, and probably won't be my last. Best holster I can imagine, use it w/ Nikon D800 and one of my primes (I have the f1.4 24, 50 and 85). Fact that I can also use it w/ a medium zoom w/ hood reversed, should I ever get one, makes it particularly versatile. And in Think Tank typical fashion, the quality is excellent. Love this thing, I will have my camera on my person much more often now that I have this slick compact little holster case.

I use this case to carry my EOS 7d with my 16-24, 24-70 and 70-210 E Lenses and they all fit snuggly and seem well protected with the extension used only on the 70-210 lens. I had wanted to have some protection when I just carried the camera with one lense rather than using my backpack with all lenses and stuff. It seems very well made.

I bought this to hold my D700 with a 28-300mm lens on a belt. It works great, just a tad tight on camera. Great way to carry a camera and instantly available.

This well constructed, well engineered holster style camera bag is versatile. With the zippered expanding section at the bottom, one can take either a shorter lens with the bag zipped, or a longer lens with it expanded. Has small area for other items, either spare card or lens cleaning pen, along with an integrated rain cover. Terrific bag to take when only one lens is necessary. Easy to access and not overly cumbersome. I use with Nikon D7000 and find it has close but adequate space for the body and one lens. Think Tank lives up to its promises.

It's relatively small (for a DSLR anyways) and provides enough padding. I prefer attaching it to a belt versus shoulder strap (the strap gets a little in the way of opening/closing)

I compaired many different brands and liked this one because of it's fit, quality construction, easy of use and to carry, and really loved the expandable feature! I've used it for three weeks now and highly recommend it.

Thinktank makes some of the most well thought out and finely designed products in the industry. Their customer service is fantastic. I bought this holster for my 5DIII and 24-70 lens. I was also pleasantly surprised that when I extended the bottom, which unzips and lengthens the bag, I was able to fit my 70-200 f2.8 (without hood). It fits well on their belt, and the shoulder strap it comes with takes a bit of the weight off your waist and so the load is well distributed. The reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is that the bag is difficult to zip when empty. So that if you take your camera out and want to close it, should you place your cap or something else in it while the camera is out, it's difficult to close due to little to no stiffness. While not being stiff is not a bad thing, it does give this unpleasant effect. One other drawback to this type bag is the inability to carry other lenses or flashes. It requires you to buy into their other bags and have a belt with numerous pouches hanging off. I do own that, but it gets heavy around the waist.

Great quality, a lot of space, strong construction and great for my Nikon D7000 with a 25/70mm lens.
