Questions? Ask our experts:

The black Retrospective 10 Shoulder Bag from Think Tank is a small, discreet and simple bag designed for the photographer who carries a small system like one pro DSLR with a standard zoom plus 1-3 lenses. Or, it can hold a pro DSLR and 2-4 lenses in the main compartment. The interior dividers are customizable to accommodate the gear you carry on any given day.

The large front flap covers the entire bag and prevents anyone from seeing what's inside. The hook & loop closure is unique with its Sound Silencer system that eliminate the tearing sound normally encountered when you open a camera bag. This is especially valuable when you are shooting in quiet venues like courts, wedding services or chess matches.

The inside of the bag contains an organizer pocket that is perfect for a note pad, mic, or small pack of tissues. Two collapsible nylon pockets are inside and are designed to hold a flash or other similar sized accessory.

Outside, an expandable pocket is large enough for a regular size DSLR body. The back of bag has a wide storage pocket that is made to hold collateral material like paperwork, maps or a note pad. Additional webbing loops are found outside to hold some small Modular, Skin or Multimedia pouches. Or, you can attach a carabiner to it for quick access items like keys. Two side pockets will hold small water bottles or even some small shoe-mount strobe lights. Under the main flap, you have a business card holder.

The carry handle is removable and the shoulder strap contains some non-slip material to keep the bag stable while moving. There's also a breathable cushioned pad along the strap to aid in positioning.

For complete protection, there's a neat rain cover that can be rapidly deployed when the weather turns sour. The cover has been configured to allow the handle and strap to extend but not interfere with the security of your gear. The Retrospective is backed by Think Tank's lifetime warranty against manufacturer's defects.

The exterior of each Retrospective shoulder bag is purposefully simple, allowing photographers to inconspicuously blend into their shooting environment
The "Sound Silencers" underneath the main flap eliminate the loud tearing sound hook-and-loop makes while opening the bag. Simply release the Sound Silencer panels and cover the hook-and-loop strips to prevent the hook-and-loop from contacting
A clear business card pocket, for identification and spare cards, is located under the main flap
Hook-and-loop panels securely fastens the main flap down keeping valuable photo equipment hidden from view
An organizer pocket is located inside the main compartment. It gives photographers enough space for small, but significant, accessories necessary for a successful shoot
All the dividers inside the bag are removable so the interior can be customized to any photographer's set of gear
Inside the main compartment are two collapsible nylon pockets (one on each side). These pockets are tall enough to fit most flash units or other accessories. A hook-and-loop strap can be used to secure the contents or it can be tucked into the pocket for quicker access
An expandable pocket on the front of the Retrospective can be used to carry a regular size DSLR body
A wide storage pocket is located on the back of the Retrospective. This pocket can be used to carry small maps, booklets or other paperwork
Removable carrying handle
A fully adjustable, canvas strap is integrated into the bag. For extra comfort, a breathable cushioned pad slides along the strap for optimum positioning. Sections of non-slip material on the pad helps keep the entire strap on your shoulder
Webbing loops on both sides of the Retrospective can be used to carry some small Modular, Skin or Multimedia pouches on the side of the bag. Alternatively, a carabiner (not included) can be used to quickly clip accessories to the sides of the bag as well
Side pockets on both sides can be used to carry smaller water bottles and will even fit some shoe-mounted strobe units
The included seam-sealed rain cover was specially designed to keep the carrying handle and integrated shoulder strap outside the rain cover without compromising protection from the elements
Compatibility
One pro size DSLR with standard zoom and 1-3 lenses in the main compartment
One pro DSLR and 2-4 lenses in the main compartment

Comments about Retrospective 10 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone Gray):

I use this bag to carry my 5D Mark III with 24-70 attached (lens hood attached) plus a 70-200 (lens hood reversed) and a 580 EX II and my iPad Air. There is still so much space for filters, extra batteries, memory cards, pens, even a second body if I had one.

The bag construction feels great and the shoulder strap is the best one I've ever used. Extremely comfortable!!

      Overall great bag

Comments about Retrospective 10 Shoulder Bag (Black):

I have several Think tank bags and love them all. Bought this to carry my Sony A7 with FE 16-35 and a FE 24-70 attached to the camera. Also have a Sony Vertical Grip attached. All told, its a big unit. Fits perfectly in the Retrospective 10.

Comments about Retrospective 10 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone Gray):

I have lots of camera bag like Kata, Manfroto and Timbukto but I'm not happy about it until I discover this bag. I can't believe how well thought is the design that it accommodates a lot of my stuff. I was able to fit all my gear (Sony a7ii with 70-200, 24-70, 16-35, 35mm 2 hvl 58 flush, extra batteries, filters, phottix oden wireless system and my Sirui T-025x tripod. One thing I like the most about this bag is the design. It doesn't look like a camera bag. The material and construction of this bag is built to last. This model can accommodate your Ipad .

This bag (if the Retrospective 7, which I also have, is representative...) is a very sturdy bag that doesn't scream "CAMERA BAG" if left in plain view. I use it for my collection of 120 cameras - 4 folders and a TLR

Comments about Retrospective 10 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone Gray):

First let me say I've not had a chance to actually use this bag yet. I bought it for a planned recent trip to South America, that we cancelled, and for an upcoming tour in Europe. The desire is a bag that I can use when hoofing around on tourist tours of cities, archeology sites, etc. While this bag might make it on a day hike or two, I'll probably continue to use one of my backpack style bags for hikes.

For air travel, this bag will be packed in my luggage. My gear will be in a Pelican iM2500 case in the overhead luggage compartment. I'll load this bag in the hotel from the hard case based on where we're going and what we're doing that day.

The bag is well made, attractive and, for the most part, well designed. For a shoulder bag, it provides good protection/padding. Like other reviewers have mentioned, it's not obviously a camera bag. Certainly some street thieves will recognize it for what it is, but I really don't want to let paranoia have me carrying a diaper bag for my gear.

It comfortably holds my Nikon D800E and two additional lenses – 24-120 mm on the body, 16-35 mm in one compartment and 70-200 mm (2.8 VRII) in the other. While the 16-35 could be on the body and in the bag, the 70-200 on the body is too long to put in the bag if you want to close the bag.

There are plenty of pockets for cards, filters, batteries, etc., but I suspect getting stuff in and out of some of those pockets with the body and two lenses in the bag will not be as easy as one would like. All the more reason to pack what you need and no more, and consider what you put where.

I doubt I'll carry my D700 body in the front pocket as mentioned in the description - it'll further crowd/cram the pockets and add weight I really don't want to shoulder. Yeah, it'll fit, but at what cost?

My one gripe about the bag is the "water bottle holders" on either end of the bag's exterior. The pockets are very small in diameter, when Think Tank says small water bottles they're very serious. The only water bottle(s) I've found to fit the pocket(s) are narrow (2.75"), stainless steel bottles. I've not seen a bottle of water at a convenience store you could stuff in the pockets. Since these are external pockets that could easily be a little larger in diameter, I dropped a star off the rating for poor design.

Comments about Retrospective 10 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone Gray):

This bag fits all of my gear, is very well put together, and comfortable for lugging all day. For my setup, it is the perfect size: Canon 6D with 135L attached, 50mm f/1.4, 35L, and external flash. The front pouch is great for a few pocket wizards, some filters, memory cards, and batteries. The business card slot inside the front flap is genius, and it is the small things that really give Think Tank bags the edge. Although pricey, the build is exceptional and I expect this bag to last a lifetime. I would also highly suggest Think Tank's sling bag lineup if you are a hiker/outdoorsman.

I love this bag to hold my mirror less camera gear. It holds everything I need but without being too big and bulky. The only complaint (and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars) is that the bag is a bit heavy on it's own. It's well designed however and well made.

Comments about Retrospective 10 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone Gray):

I couldn't be happier with this bag. It looks great but isn't obviously a camera bag. It easily holds all I've thrown at it (typically a D300 with Tokina 11-16/2.8 plus 2-3 additional lenses, filters, extra batteries, etc). It has more well-thought-out pockets and storage than I had imagined. It's very well made and seems exceptionally durable. I imagine I will be using this for longer than most of the gear I currently have in it. The only things I would change are that I wish the shoulder pad was removable and that the pockets on the sides could hold a larger water bottle. The pad is grippy and comfortable, but I have found that sometimes I'd rather just have the strap instead of the large-ish pad.

Use the retro 10 to carry my d7100 with 24-70 attached. A 12-24 wide angle and a 18-200 zoom in the main compartment of this bag. Plenty of room left for other flash, charger in main compartment also. With the other storage areas in this bag, unless you want to carry the entire kitchen sink of photography gear, then this is the bag for you.
Especially like the fact that it doesn't look and scream "I'm a camera bag--grab me"! It carries all that I am interested in carrying. If I use other lenses, I just swap them out and leave some at home. This bag is going to last me a long time and it is super comfortable to carry with the over padded shoulder strap. I have had other shoulder bags and this one wins hands down.

Comments about Retrospective 10 Shoulder Bag (Pinestone Gray):

The problem with most small to mid-size bags is that they cannot handle a pro DSLR with a battery grip and zoom attached at the same time. The Retrospective 10 solves this problem beautifully. I alternate using a 5DmkIII and 1V-HS with grip and 28-70 2.8. The Retro10 keeps my gear at a convenient, ready position without being too big, but still having plenty of room for flash, batteries, extra prime lens, and assorted other stuff.

I have a Nikon D5300 with an 18-200 lens on it and three other lenses. This bag comfortably fits them all in, with room left for battery, a couple of hoods and my iPad. I love the looks and feel of it! Its Retro style does not broadcast it as a photo bag. It has the best shoulder strap I've ever seen: wide, thick and strong as well as a moveable pad. It also has a detachable handle for carrying it if you don't want it on your shoulder; something I've found useful getting in and out of places.

I use a think tank urban disguise bag as a carry on for a lot of gear but it's clearly too big to use as a day pack. The retrospective 10 serves that purpose in grand fashion. It is relatively small and extremely comfortable on the shoulder. It holds a pro size body with standard zoom attached and 70-200 not mounted. Can also fit 16-35 f4, sb-910 flash and numerous accessories. Certainly all you need for a day shooting can be put into this pack. The material appears very durable and I love the color. Definitely doesn't look like your typical camera bag, which I guess is the point. Highly recommend!

Bought the Think Tank camera bag for an upcoming trip to St. Barts. It is perfect for my SLR, zoom lens, compact camera, accessories & my tablet. Best of all it does not scream camera inside. And as always, great service from BH photo.

This bag is awesome for keeping a low profile while traveling. In a city, it rarely stands out. Among tourists, you look like someone just hanging out. The shoulder strap is incredibly strong and thick. I think you could repel with it if needed. With no exterior badges, it doesn't stand out like a typical camera bag. Most camera bags attract far too much attention, even on a professional shoot. You are crazy not to consider this, even if you are an aspiring amateur.

I have no problem fitting all my gear into one bag now. I can get the job done very easily now. This bag allows me to carry two flashes, two camera bodies(with batt. grips), an 18-200mm, a 50mm, a 100mm macro and all my little bits have plenty of pocket space. Great bag, loving every thing about it! Only thing that could be wrong is not having a spot to hang a tripod. But that won't keep me from buying another one of these.

My camera, D3x, is large and heavy to carry around all the time. This bag is sturdy enough and large enough, which allows me to carry all I need. This usually includes an extra lens, sometimes a flash, extra battery and odds and ends. I also love the fact that it really doesn't look like a camera bag.
                                            I highly recommend this bag...

Construction of this bag is amazing. I wish I had a bag this strong when i was in college to haul my load of books everywhere. Very well engineered and pockets are well placed. This was the smallest messenger bag I could find to comfortably handle a pro-size dslr.
Works well with my 17-40 on cam, 70-200f4 on the side and speedlite. Thats usually the most id carry with it.
