The Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital Camera (Body Only) is a full-frame 22.3MP DSLR featuring exceptional still image and movie recording capabilities. Integrating Canon's new DIGIC 5+ Image Processor and 14-bit A/D conversion, this camera is able to produce superbly detailed imagery with immense low-light sensitivity that is further aided by an extended ISO range up to 102400. Image quality is further enhanced by the new 61-point high density reticular autofocus, including up to 41 cross-type AF points and 5 dual diagonal AF points for ensured sharpness. iFCL metering works in conjunction with the AF system and uses color information from scenes to produce accurate exposure readings using a 63 zone dual-layer metering sensor. HDR and Multiple Exposure modes provide greater creative opportunities and help you to reduce the amount of post-production time needed to produce high quality imagery. The 5D Mark III is also capable of recording full HD video with manual exposure control and in multiple frame rates, including 1080/30p and 720/60p. Still images can also be recorded up to 6fps.
Image review is possible using the 1,040,000-dot 3.2" Clear View II LCD monitor, which features a high-transparency, reflection resistant multi-coating for adequate viewing under bright conditions. The Intelligent Viewfinder also integrates a superimposed LCD providing you with exposure information and features a 100% field of view.
A highly durable magnesium-alloy body surrounds the components and offers increased dust and weather resistance. An updated EOS Integrated Cleaning system also helps to reduce and remove dust within the camera body. Several of the physical controls on the camera body are fully customizable for a more efficient workflow and more convenient handling scheme. Dual CF and SD memory card support also increases the compatibility of the camera. Support is also provided for the optional Canon Wireless File Transmitter and GPS receiver for remote logging, tracking, and sending of your imagery.

I've been taking family portraits for almost 3 years now. I went from a Canon T1i, to the 7D, to 5D Mark III.
Anyone looking to upgrade from the 7D has a tough decision on their hands, as the 7D is a great camera. After reading hundreds of reviews, I decided to take the plunge.
I received my camera yesterday, and already used it for a family portrait session (natural light). All I can say is WOW! I use Lightroom to edit all photos taken ~ brighten eyes, soften skin, etc. Instead of spending hours in Lightroom, I was able to turn the photos around in a fraction of the time. The clarity is undeniable. I was able to crop the photos and not lose any sharpness (to the naken eye).
I performed a quick comparison between the two cameras using my Canon 100mm f2.8L IS USM. This comparison really doesn't do the 5D3 justice, but at least it will give you a good idea of the clarity, color, brightness, crop factor variation and sharpness difference between the two cameras.
Hope you find this useful, as I would have during my comparision shopping.

I'm having a bad experience with this camera. when I put the ISO on 12000 and above, I have this horizontal brown colour appears on the middle of the picture. I sent the camera to canon itself to fix the problem. however, after i got it from canon, they told me the problem was fixed but the problem still appears every time I raise the ISO to 12000 and above. Other problem is; the shutter for the camera makes irregular sound.I have a picture to show and I did send this picture to canon.

Comments about Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital Camera (Body Only):
This is a great camera if you use it in day light in AI Servo mode. I am one of those few people who always have the camera in AI servo mode (and back button focus.. actually back button focus is not relevant to my reviw here)I shot a few Track/Field events and it is great since there are various options in AI servo mode to tweak the settings. I like the 6 different cases in AF config setting and I saw much better results than 5D mk2.That being said, 5D mk3 simply sucks in low light, in AI servo mode, if you want to keep in AI servo mode for capturing actions on a stage show. The focus point will not light up in RED as in 5D mk 2 which makes it very difficult to shoot in low light. You are literally shooting in the dark without knowing where you focus point is. Shame..while I liked 5D mk3 in day light, after my very first shoot in low light on a stage show, I simply packed my 5D mk3 (since I was just shooting in the dark, I mean it), and took out my T2i.. BTW I usually shoot with 2 cameras in stage dancing, I used 5D mk2 and T2i (thought I can sell my T2i since I bought 5D mk3, but I will not) and again it is shame that I can't use my 5D mk3 which is supposed to be good in higher ISO compared to T2i, but I had to use T2i last week instead of 5D mk3. . This is not good.Checked in several forums, and people complained about focus point not lighting up in RED in AI servo mode is a serious issue.. Anyways, you can buy this camera if you are shooting in day light and if you keep your camera in AI servo or single shot. But if you are one of those guys who will keep the camera in AI servo mode and shoot in low light, you will be clueless where the focus point is and I will hightly recommend 5D Mk2 though it's focusing system is ancient but in my last shoot I got (as before in many shoots), excellent pics in my 5D mk2 and most pics in 5D mk3 were throw away since the focus was elsewhere.I know a lot of people complained about this and I do know the technical reason that displaying RED may affect the metering.. But Canon needs to understand that people who do this are not novice and they all do this in M mode.. who cares about metering in M mode and I decide my settings based on a few shots and looking at histogram.. At least, I hope, Canon will be backward compatible with 5D mk2 in M mode.I am very disappointed with this but I am not returning this camera to B&H since I do shoot a lot in day light.. 5D mk3 is simply useless in low light condition if you keep in AI servo mode to track the movement.. Comments about Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital Camera (Body Only):
I upgraded from 7D. Build quality of 5D3 is pretty similar. But I feel the large dial on 7D seems more rugged. Sensor cleaning on 5D3 is quieter. Many features are similar between these two cameras. The best thing I like so far is the focusing system. With more focusing points, it is very convenient. After only three shooting sessions and looking back, I already feel 19 points on 7D are not enough. I find sometime it is hard to focus on a specific position on 7D because there is not a focusing point at that position, especially for macro works. So far I am quite happy with it

I purchased this product to use both personally for my family, and professionally as a photographer. I have used a Nikon camera for the past six years and thought there was nothing better until I switched over to canon. I absolutely love all aspects of my new Canon Mark iii. Where do I even begin - from body styling and components to ease of use, this product exceeds completely beyond my expectations. I have only owned the camera for two short weeks- and have been able to figure things out quite rapidly-I have thoroughly enjoyed exploring all of the technology infused in this wonderful product! I highly recommend that anyone looking at a Canon camera upgrade to the Mark III it is well worth the cost and can say that you will be 100% satisfied with your purchase and product.

I use this baby for events and I have never been more satisfied with any other camera than this one. Very well detailed shots. Skin textures are very detailed at wide apertures. And the colors are better out the box than my previous Camera, the 7d.I don't need to make any adjustments in the picture styles art all with this. Faster focusing is also a plus. and the HDR feature had Bern my best Friend indoors when taking interiors. The only Con is that the sd card slot isn't high spurred so your high speed sd cards won't work but I'm not missing that anyways because I use the sd card for added hard drive space. Leave the high performance shooting to your cf cards.

Comments about Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital Camera (Body Only):
So I finally made the switch from the 7d to the fullframe 5dmkiii and I must say that I love it.
There are some minor things Canon has fixed between these two cameras, like the locking switch on the top left to change the camera settings. This is huge for me. I also found myself bumping the switch on my 7d from manual to apeture priorty or one of the other settings. So for me this is very nice. No having to worry if the camera is still in manual mode when I take it out of the bag or pick it back up is just one of the little pluses for me.
The camera itself is built like a tank, much like canon's other pro weather sealed bodies. It is solid in your hand, but also well balanced and ergonomic.
One thing that does drive me nuts about the camera is that canon moved the focus punch in button to the left side of the camera instead of where your right thumb would be normally and where the button is located on the 7D. This makes no sense to me and makes zooming in to check focus extremely awkward and not very efficent. But i'm sure this can be changed with a quick custom configuration.
Coming from an apsc sized sensor I am loving the larger full frame sensor. My wide lenses are actually wides on this body! The new digic V processor has vastly improved the already great low light performance of the mkii and made the mkiii very sensitive in light low as well as greatly reducing the noise level of the image. I shoot weddings so this is a huge bonus for me in situations where the light is not always in your favor.
Canon has also annouced support for full uncompressed 4:2:2 out via hdmi. This is a huge huge HUGE step in the right direction for DSLR video shooters!
If you are debating on whether or not to upgrade from your current camera to the mkIII I would have to say stop wasting your time and find out what you've been missing! It is an incredible camera for both video and still photography and I guarantee you will not regret the switch!

This camera is amazing. I upgraded from the 7D and I could not be happier. I use the 5D Mark III with a 100mm 2.8L, 16-35mm 2.8L, 24-70mm 2.8L and the 100-400mm L lens. I have used all four with this camera and have gotten unbelievably clear, beautiful photos. I would recommend splurging on the III due to its improved focusing over the II. I am in love with this camera!

Corporate video and still photogrpahy. I was surprised how quiet this camera is compared to it's predecesor. The video/still mode switch is very handy and the new location of the video start/stop is in a much better location. You can now keep your hand on the camera while switching between modes and starting/stoping the recording. Only downside was relearning the menu system and to some extent the autofocus. Which is still strange to me although it obviously has many more functions and possibilities than the mkII.

I use the mkiii for everything from weddings to sports, and the bottom line is that it never disappoints. I can't stress enough how beautiful and sharp my images are, and a lot of the differences I notice come down to the sensor. It's a full-frame beast. The only minor drawback would maybe just be that, it's a beast, and it has weight to it. But then again, it feels great in your hands, and the weight is nothing you shouldn't expect from a camera with such a diverse set of qualities. Amazing in Low-light with high ISO when shooting video, that is what had me sold on it to begin with. The rest is icing on the cake

I use this camera for portraits and landscapes. It's amazing how a full frame camera can turn a 24-70mm into a wider angle lens which allows me more photographic options. I love the selection of AF points available and how it works in low light situations.

Without a single doubt this camera is so powerful. With extreme ISO setting, I can't really find noise. They are so many things to explore. This is a great buy.

AF is vastly improved from mk II, and the AF was my only real complaint.
