I was commissioned to shoot a time lapse video of building construction for a client. The site would be without power during the shooting and there was no security planed for patrolling the area. The location is a bit remote so I wasn't all that concerned about getting my gear stolen. The erection of the building was to span roughly three weeks. I needed something that would be inexpensive, run on battery power for a very long time and I needed to capture in HD. I wasn't prepared to leave my Nikon DSLR working at the site for days on end. I did the research and found the Brinno TLC200.

I've downloaded three times now from the camera. Very cool! I'm impressed with the quick download/play capability of the device. This camera will work nicely for my needs and that of my client for this project. I'll also use this on other projects that involve long processes.

Having said that, keep in mind that Brinno offers this camera at a very low price. It is HD but it's a small camera/lens/piece of equipment. If you're looking for a polished video that competes with your 35K broadcast camera you'll be disappointed. But for the level at which it competes, this little camera is well priced, it easy to set up, runs on battery for weeks, and will produce some very cool results for web work and other non-broascast media.

The folks who designed and market this camera did a fine job producing a time lapse camera that will fit many, many project needs.

Problems with battery life, not so great resolution, lcd should be in front of camera, poorly designed input/output covers, otherwise...works fine.

Comments about TLC200 Time Lapse Camera (Blue):

This camera is great for capturing long term time lapse footage. I bought it to use for a 3+ week time lapse in a location where I couldn't easily swap memory cards or batteries. With a large memory card, and good batteries, the camera worked without incident for the length of the recording.

The final video quality isn't as good as a DSLR or dedicated video camera, but the ability to leave the camera unattended for extended periods more than makes up for it. The updated firmware add's nice features for long term shooting too.

The menu system is intuitive and gets you going at a standard 1 frame per second setting. The LCD display is very small, but I found it adequate for most tasks. I'm impressed with the auto brightness and colour balance, the overall image quality is surprisingly clear. Very satisfied so far, especially at the reasonable price.

Works great straight out of the box! Have used it several times for sunsets and moonrises, but actually bought it to record my husbands Log and Cedar home restoration business. We are so happy with it that we are planning on buying several more to have at multiple job sites.
For the price and ease of use you simply cannot beat this camera!
I will suggest getting the wide angle lens as we are planning to do for better coverage.

The TLC200 is easy to set up and generates great time lapse videos right out of the box. It's small enough to rest on a window ledge, but also has a tripod thread so you can mount it more solidly. The AVI files created by the camera are slightly non-standard so will not open in a Sony Vegas Pro timeline without conversion into MP4 format, but using a simple conversion program like Any DVD Converter Pro takes care of that.

This is an amazing time lapse camera. It is simple to use, has a small footprint and relatively discreet. Picture quality is good for 720p video, but I only wished Brinno offered a 1080p camera! The camera is meant for daylight use, the night video quality is very grainy.

Please take note that the box does come with a 4GB SD card. Also note that you need a secondary devise, like a computer to play back the video.

This camera is great. First time doing time lapse and stop motion and the results are awesome. Only issue is once you start the camera in time lapse mode it is hard to tell weather it is working or not. Wish there was some way to check that its working as we missed one day of video. For some reason it stopped shooting. All the days before and after were fine just on day. Battery life is great went for a week of shooting never changed the batteries once, camera shot 12+ hrs a day. even low light shots came out acceptable. Easy to use settings.Would be nice if the front of the lens was threaded for a standard filter, had to make up a holder for a polarized filter for direct sun shooting. It is great for shooting events we shot a wedding over a few days and the video is fun to watch from set up to take down and all the fun in between in a 8 minute video. Flower openings and sky scenes are awesome also. Would be nice if you could adjust the frame rate of a video already shot in camera and to preview in camera.

This camera is simple, but produces a very usable HD timelapse for about $. Of course the image quality doesn't match a $100K camera, but the timelapse is easy to create and is compelling enough to overcome any image quality deficiencies. It has a nice range of intervals. Be sure to set the playback to 30 frames per second if you want to use it in a video production. It also has a wide angle lens that lets you do macros (such as flowers opening) as well as nice horizon shots. Nice features include a standard tripod mount and optional wide angle and shutter release for stop motion shots. Only downside is that I've had a couple mis-triggers, and I didn't find out until I went to download the footage.By the way, you can't play back the footage on the camera. You need to download from the USB cable or the SD card to view your shots.Batteries have lasted me through 7-8 days of shoots without replacing them. The unit can shoot for 300,000 frames on a set of 4 AA batteries according to Mfgr.It does surprisingly well on night time city shots.
