Comments about Sony ICD-LX30 Digital Voice Recorder (Black):

Bought it for a 75+ yr old to record live organ music. Sounds incredible, very good internal mics.
Was going to hook up a line in off the organ speaker or headphone output but never bothered, the mic sounds great. Big buttons and simple operating system. Folders and dated files are great for finding performances. All around great piece of kit. To bad they don't have them listed any more, I'd buy another for myself.

Comments about Sony ICD-LX30 Digital Voice Recorder (Black):

I use this mainly to record live speakers, in training type situations.

I have used thia device stand alone using the built in mics and also with audio fed from a mixer into the microphone port on the device. It did a fairly good job with just the built in mics. As good as I expected, not great, but useable.

Getting the levels set when feeding from the mixer was my biggest issue. I have not figured out a way to monitor the recording level and it is very picky. You have to set the level, test record, then listen to the recording to see how the level is set. The you make and adjustment and try again. No level indicators on the device and no way to monitor. My output levels had to be set very low to get a clean recording.

Now when you get the levels correctly set it is very easy to use and produces a nice recording.

Comments about Sony ICD-LX30 Digital Voice Recorder (Black):

MY WIFE RECORDS THE LATE NIGHT TALK RADIO SHOWS. FOR YEARS SHE USED AUDIO TAPE AND THEN PLAYED IT BACK DURING THE DAY WHILE WORKING IN THE HOUSE OR OUTSIDE. THIS REQUIRED HER TO GET UP AT 2AM AND TURN THE TAPE OVER AND SHE HAD TO USE QUARTER SPEED TO GET THE PROGRAMMING ON ONE TAPE. THEREFORE THE AUDIO QUALITY WAS ALWAYS POOR. THAT WAS BEFORE. NOW SHE USES THE ICD-LX30 DIGITAL RECORDER. SHE CAN PUT AN SD MEMORY CHIP IN AND RECORD THE WHOLE 6-HOUR PROGRAM AND STILL HAVE ROOM FOR RECORDING ANOTHER DAY. IT RECORDS IN MP3 FORMAT SO THE AUDIO QUALITY IS LIKE FM. THE RECORDER DOES NOT HAVE A WHOLE BUNCH OF BELLS-AND-WHISTLES AS THEY SAY, SO IT IS SIMPLE TO RECORD AND PLAY BACK. DURING PLAY BACK SHE CAN FAST FORWARD THROUGH SOME OF THE VERY LONG MULTI- COMMERCIAL BREAKS. SHE LOVES IT AND THE BATTERIES LAST A REAL LONG TIME SINCE THERE IS NO TAPE MOTOR RUNNING. I WILL PROBABLY BUY ANOTHER ONE FOR MY SELF.
