I was in the market for something to use at the gym. I've tried Beats, Bose, etc. I was leaning toward the wireless earbud option. When I threw on the MDR-V55's, I was thoroughly impressed! So many of these headphones have overhyped bass, without much fidelity in the highs or mids. The MDR-V55's have a nice, solid bottom, with clean (but not harsh) highs mids. I listen to everything from jazz to alt-rock, so it was important to me to have something that sounded good across all genres. The MDR-V55's did the trick for me, especially at a price point far below the others.

When shopping for headphones, keep in mind that sound "quality" is subjective based on several factors. Are you listening to low/high quality MP3's, AIF/Wav files, CD's, streams? Also, remember that production quality differs from genre to genre, artist to artist. If your a person with a hearing deficiency in certain frequencies, things will sound different to you. That's why it's always best to try them all, and find something that fits the sound you're looking for. Some people like hyped bass, some like a cleaner low-end. Some people crank the treble on their car stereos! Again, it's all subjective. My opinion, or anyone else's opinion on "what sounds best" has more to do with our own criteria and personal preferences.

As far as comfort goes, they are a little hard on the ears after a period of time. I found that adjusting them and finding the sweet spot on your ears/head somewhat alleviates this issue. I find the comfort issue is compounded if you wear glasses, especially those with plastic rims.

Based on the reviews, I was expecting the cord to be a lot shorter than it was. For use at the gym, I had plenty of cord. Same with using them on my laptop. Regardless, you can find similarly colored extenders if you need one.

Overall, I'm happy with this purchase. They look nice, they're built solid, and they sound great. At this price point, I feel like I can use them without worrying too much about damaging them. Can't say that about some of the spendier options.

I use these headphones for professional video editing.

PROS: The sound range is top-notch for the price point. To get better audio you'd have to spend about double what you will spend on these.

Folding cups increase portability for when I need to double-check audio in the field.

CONS: The cable is laughably short. I can't even lean back in my chair without dragging my laptop across my desk.

As a result of this con, I can only recommend these phones for use on some kind of portable device that's going to be on your person to begin with. Don't get these if you are connecting them to a laptop or (God forbid) a desktop. There simply isn't enough cable.

      These are great headphones

Comments about MDR-V55 DJ Style Headphones (White):

I'm not a DJ but I AM a drummer, and I use these headphones to listen to music as I play along. These have a brighter, more dynamic sound quality than my other headphones, and I can hear every note loud & clear no matter how hard I hit the drums.

Awesome headphones for the price! Short cord, but works great for a deejay setup or hooking up to your iPod/iphone/smartphone. You just have to put the headphones down before going for your vinyl if you still spin vinyl. These headphones kinda hurt my ears after about an hour, but most all on ear headphones are like that with me. Puts out enough bass and gets loud enough, perhaps louder than you actually need, but comes in handy when you want to blast out the roommates chitter chatter ; )

Comments about MDR-V55 DJ Style Headphones (Black/Red):

For the price you cannot beat the range of sound offered by these headphones. Beats by Dre are multiples of the price and do not offer anywhere near the range that these do on the bass-treble scale. Get these. Spent the other $250 on something else.

          All Around Great

          By BT-916

          from California

Comments about MDR-V55 DJ Style Headphones (Black/Red):

These replaced their predecessor the Sony MDR-V700DJ. The sound is impressive to say the least, you hear all the small details in your music. These headphones produce a great range of sounds. Your mids and highs are Crystal clear. The bass won't overwhelm you, but it's not missing. It reminds me of the type of bass you would get from a pair of 8 or 10 inch woofers, you get clean tight responsive bass. These ain't 12's. But for the price you can't argue with them. I think they are a better all around headphone then beats. Here is why, the frequency response range. 5hz-25,000hz. Beats only does 20hz-25,000hz. What that means is with all that bass beats has, they will distort on the low end, and I've experienced it with headphones with the 20hz- 20hz frequency range. What happens is when you are watching to a DVD our using them to game, i.e. let's say a tank shoots a round, when it hits the target it makes a loud explosion in the distant, that low sound of the explosion is what will distort. That is where the frequency comes in and these headphones deliver. Best all round. And all the reviews that talk of a creaking noise it didn't happen for me. They quite unless I lay my head directly on them on my pillow, then yes they make plenty of noise as they should. A Mic and little longer cord would have pushed these headphones over the top. The flat cord is awesome by the way.

Comments about MDR-V55 DJ Style Headphones (Black/Red):

Great sound for the price. While the cushions aren't the 'fullest', they are comfortable on the ears (I should note a mild discomfort when taking the headphones OFF, but I never notice this whilst wearing them). They are lightweight and compact, good for the hikes and city walks that I like to do. The cord, however, is lengthy and accident-prone (I accidentally spilled my coffee an hour ago when the cord wrapped itself around my mug), and being relatively thin, could possibly break easily. It is also unfortunate that the cord is built on. So I wouldn't recommend it for any exercise beyond jogging, or sports.

But otherwise, they are somewhat stylish, with a sturdy plastic/metal build, and great sound for the price.

I just bought them. It came within 3 days! So fast. Anyways, I bought these to replace old EarPods and looking for quality. I was actually considering of buying some beats solo 2 or a Bose headphones. But, this thing can stand up to them. It is much more comfortable then the beats solo. The bass is deep, the trebles are high. Amazing. Fold together so it's compact. I placed them in my back pack with no problem. Great price for it. Ear cups are very breathable. Great price. greatloved to buy things from them. I will certainly buy more things from them

          Excellent DJ cans!!!

Comments about MDR-V55 DJ Style Headphones (Black/Red):

I bought these to DJ with as a replacement for Beats Solos, which aren't DJing headphones. Initially I was going to purchase HDJ 500s or 1000s, but after pittin these again the 1500, I decided to go this route. Couldn't have made a better choice.
I would seriously recommend these cans as they have very good, highs, lows, & mids & a great volume with little to no distortion!

Comments about MDR-V55 DJ Style Headphones (Black/Red):

These are an excellent set of headphones. Love how clean the sound is produced! Details was one thing I was looking for, and it certainly delivered. Bass is powerful and clear (not overwhelming). I has responded very well to all kinds of music I've tried, rock, rap, electronica, salsa beats, everything.. I only wish that had the capability of removable cable.. I would actually pay some more for just that.. Definitely recommended..

Comments about MDR-V55 DJ Style Headphones (Black/Red):

I use these headphones for professional video editing.

PROS: The sound range is top-notch for the price point. To get better audio you'd have to spend about double what you will spend on these.

Folding cups increase portability for when I need to double-check audio in the field.

CONS: The cable is laughably short. I can't even lean back in my chair without dragging my laptop across my desk.

As a result of this con, I can only recommend these phones for use on some kind of portable device that's going to be on your person to begin with. Don't get these if you are connecting them to a laptop or (God forbid) a desktop. There simply isn't enough cable.

Comments about MDR-V55 DJ Style Headphones (Black/Red):

For the money they do very well if you can live with a few limitations. They can get a bit stuffy and do lack extra features like a detachable cord and a remote but if you want good sound and fresh design for less than move on them. Bass is excellent and tight with the rest of the tonal range being very good and about what you would hope for for the price. Clarity is lacking in some spaces but overall the package is a very good deal.
