Product Highlights
  • Holds Compact/Large DSLR, 2 Lenses,Flash
  • Doesn't Look Like a Standard Camera Bag
  • Rip Stop Nylon Construction
  • Hi-Vis Yellow Interior for Low Light
  • Removable Padded 3-Pocket Interior
  • Two Front Zippered Accessory Pockets
  • Two Interior Zippered Accessory Pockets
  • Center Zipper Access/Slash Front Pocket
  • Adjustable Cushioned Shoulder Strap

The blue AC540BL Envoy Standard Messenger Camera Case from Ape Case is a bit larger than the AC520 version that holds a compact DSLR. This version holds a larger DSLR along with the same amount of gear and accessories. It's still a very affordable way to carry a minimum of gear - your DSLR with two lenses, flash and some accessories. Made from tough, water-repellent rip-stop nylon, the bag has a unique removable padded interior insert that, when not needed, can be set aside to increase its overall interior storage space.

Another benefit of the case is that it doesn't resemble your traditional camera shoulder bag - yet - it holds its share of equipment. There's plenty of extra space for accessories in the two zippered front storage pockets (one on top of the other) as well as two additional interior zippered pockets. All these pockets can be used for memory cards, batteries, cleaning cloths, filters or other small items.

Access to the contents is easy via the center zipper that exposes the interior that uses Ape's exclusive Hi-Vis yellow coloring that will make locating your gear easier when you're shooting in marginal light. The shoulder strap is fully adjustable and contains a cushioned contoured pad with non-slip grip. The AC540BL is backed by Ape's limited lifetime warranty against defects.

I've been looking for the ideal camera bag for a couple of years and have finally found it. This bag is lightweight and fairly compact. I carry my Olympus camera with either a 100-300 or 12-60 lens attached, and the other in the bag along with a couple of filters, extra batteries, charger, a card reader and cable release. I can even fit my strap inside which is a bit bulky. There's also room for my iPad or Macbook Air and two pockets inside for keys, phone, wallet, etc. Everything in the bag is easily accessible and it's pretty comfortable to carry; although fully loaded, I would rather not have to carry it all day.

The padded camera insert can be removed and the bag can be used as a carry-on or day bag when not being used as a camera bag. The only feature I miss is an outside pocket for a water bottle and the ability to slide it on a wheeling suitcase handle.

I would recommend this bag to anyone looking for a versatile, lightweight bag.

      Nice bag

Bag was a little bulkier then I thought. The outside pocket added to the bulk. I liked the yellow interior for visibility

Comments about Ape Case AC540BL Envoy Standard Messenger Camera Case (Blue):

I have bought so many camera bags and all of them shout "Expensive camera in this bag." Now this one does not attract attention any where you go. It is very light, durable, not at all expensive but most of all it can carry your DSLR with lens attached to it and an extra lens on the well padded inside compartment. The bag has plenty of zippered compartments inside and out. The only downside is that the shoulder pad is useless and I had to remove mine off. Other than that it's a great bag - buy it!

Comments about Ape Case AC540BL Envoy Standard Messenger Camera Case (Blue):

This Ape Case does not look like a camera bag and that is an advantage if you want to carry your expensive camera. The light weight is not and indication of the padding for you camera and lenses. Padding is very good and the entire padded unit lifts out. This would make a great bag to take along inside a suitcase for those times when you want to carry a light package instead of a heavy case.

Comments about Ape Case AC540BL Envoy Standard Messenger Camera Case (Blue):

This bag is small but mighty in its usage function. I'm able to fix in a Nikon D7100 attached with a Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 lens and two other lens. You can also squeeze in an iPad. The bag is light with its content and great for walking about the city to snap some great city photographs.

The front compartments are great for other accessories such as spare battery, cleaning cloth, wallet, keys, etc.

All in all, it's a great shoulder bag. I'd recommend this to people who are looking to purchase a camera bag.

Comments about Ape Case AC540BL Envoy Standard Messenger Camera Case (Blue):

I just received this bag. I purchased for an upcoming vacation, where I want to walk around with my good camera, lens, and flash in an inconspicuous fashion.

              What I like:
              * Perfect size. Holds what I need (Canon 5DMarkIII with Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 DI VC with hood attached and ready to shoot, Canon 430EXII detached, and room for the camera charger or a point and shoot camera or another small lens) comfortably without feeling too big and bulky. The bag will actually also hold my Tamron SP 70-200mm F/2.8 lens hood reversed and camera detached, instead of the flash, and can even fit my iPad3 with protective case, and barely, a 16.9fl oz water bottle in the front pocket, but not sure I would risk water that close to my gear or stuffing the bag that full. It makes the camera hard to get in and out of the bag).

              * Adequate Support. When packed full of gear, it doesn't look stressed like some of the competing bags where the padded insert doesn't completely fill the bag. The padding is sufficient to protect the gear from bumping together or against items while walking around.

              * Good Strap. While I haven't really tested this for a day long outing yet, the strap is long enough and adjustable to be used near shoulder or cross body and I am a big man so some bags that claim to be used cross body, won't comfortably fit across mine.

              * Adequate number of pockets. There are 4 fully enclosed zipper pockets, a mesh zipper pocket, and two small pockets presumably for small filters or memory cards.

              * Great look. It is more masculine than it's competition. When I showed my wife the options, she immediately pointed to the Ape Case and said, "get that one, it doesn't look like a purse." As others have commented the blue color is a navy blue color, darker than the photos make it appear. Almost looks like one of the newer style lunch-boxes or a six-pack cooler. It doesn't look like it would have thousands of dollars of camera gear in it, which was important to me.

              * The price. Some of the competition is almost double the price.

              What I don't like:
              * No dedicated water bottle holder like some of the competition. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet, and as I note, the front pocket, could fit a small water bottle, or you could fit one inside instead of the flash or secondary lens if you are willing to risk a leak.

              * The padded insert is free-floating inside the bag. If you only have a camera and nothing else heavy, the camera could pull up the insert as you remove it from the bag. Note that the dividers attach with velcro, I'm referring to the entire padded insert not being attached to the bag. It would have felt more solid to have had a strip of velcro across the bottom of the bag and insert and may reduce some frustration in certain instances. Also, maybe a small velcro square on each side to help keep the padded area wide open as you return the camera to the bag. Really just nitpicking, as these are minor things.

              * No rain cover. The Nylon looks semi-weather resistant, but zippers are not. I would have liked a rain cover option. I will need to toss in a kitchen garbage bag or find another option in case of rain.

I will update this review as needed after we take our vacation later this summer.

              Thanks!

I like the style because it does attract attention. The materials are soft and sturdy. I like the fact that you can easily zip and unzip using one hand (i.e. you don't have to hold the other end to keep the zipper moving). I was able to load a D300 with a 17-35 with hood on and 2 additional lenses plus a flash. I just wish the dividers/flaps inside are sturdier so they don't get in the way easily when I try to put my gear back and also for extra protection in case the bag gets dropped.

Comments about Ape Case AC540BL Envoy Standard Messenger Camera Case (Blue):

I recently purchased the APE Envoy Standard Messenger Camera Case AC540BL. It is amazing, the perfect bag I have been looking for, for years. Excellent for street photography. Its appearance is unassuming, inexpensive, and simple.

The main compartment's zipper is bi-directional. Clever. From the item photos on APE's website its impossible to see the two zippered pockets on the inside (which are great) although they mentioned them in the description. The loud yellow removable padded insert is a brilliant color making it easy to see the contents in dimmer light. The outer zipped pocket is big enough for three camera batteries and has two sewn pockets for smartphones or pens, etc. The outer pocket also has a small zippered outer slip pocket big enough for a passport.

The main compartment is big enough to accommodate two 7 inch lenses, and a short body camera with 3-4 inch lens attached; or two bodies with lenses attached and a large flash.

An excellent bag all-around but I think it could be improved. The padded shoulder pad is very comfortable but fixed, so that it can slip over the length of the strap but cannot be removed. Which means that it was designed for people who wear crisscrossed over their chest (long strap), or for tall people wearing in hanging their shoulder (shorter strap). If you are NOT tall AND wear it over one shoulder the shoulder pad will not fit, it will be useless. A velcro flapped shoulder pad that is removable and can be reattached to a much shortened strap, would give even greater flexibility.

A great product at a good price. I only wish it had been available in gray or black, although the blue is dark navy, not bright blue.

I recently purchased the APE Envoy Standard Messenger Camera Case AC540BL. It is amazing, simple, and does not scream expensive camera bag! It is the perfect bag I have been looking for, for years. If you do street photography it has an unassuming, inexpensive, but nicely textured appearance.

The main compartment has bi-directional zipper and can be opened from either direction. Clever. From the item photos on APE's website it is impossible to see the two zippered interior pockets (which are great) although they are mentioned in the description. The outer pocket is large enough for 2 or 3 camera batteries and also has a zippered netting divider and space for two smartphones, pens, or similar sized items. The outer pocket also has a separate zippered outer smaller compartment big enough for a passport.

The removable insert is a loud yellow that easily lets you see what's in the bag in dimmer light. The yellow insert pulls out and is completely removable (if you want to replace it with something else), or configurable.

It has room for two 7" lenses, and a short camera body with a 3" or 4" lens attached. Or two short bodies with lenses attached, and room for another longer lens or a large flash. There is no large outer slip-in pocket for papers or a map.

An excellent bag all-around but I think it could be improved. Although the shoulder pad is very padded and comfortable, APE made the shoulder pad fixed, so that it can be slip along the strap, but not be removed. Which means that it is designed for people who wear crisscrossed over their chest (long strap), or for tall people hanging it from one shoulder (shorter strap). But people who are NOT tall AND do a one-shoulder carry will not find the pad usable at all. A velcro flapped shoulder pad that is removable and can be reattached to a much shortened strap, would be better and give it even greater flexibility.

All in all, a great product at a good price.

I have many bags but this one seems to fill the bill for most of what I do. That is street/people shooting. I don't like leaving my camera out all the time but prefer to have easy access to it. And, my D800 is heavy enough without having a complicated heavy bag to deal with. There are occasions for a sling or backpack when I need more equipment.

I have the smaller version of this bag as well, but this one provides a bit more room...perfect for D600 short tele, flash, filters, extra short lens or D600 with short tele and 70-200 (you need to rearrange the padding inserts)

This is a great bag. The center compartment was able to fit my Cannon DSLR with the wide angle lense attached. The side compartments hold my telephoto lense and my flash. I can use this bag ad a purse as well. It fits my large wallet, keys, and my smartphone. The shoulder padding on the strap is a great addition.

I put my stuff in it, but I haven't taken it anywhere yet. I can say I was surprised by how long the should strap is -- it's plenty long enough to put over onto the opposite shoulder. The bright yellow inside does truly help me see where my stuff is. I have DSLR with one lens on it and then another lens to pull out from time to time. The bag is a comfortable size for these items and all the little stuff. The pocket on the front is smaller than I thought it would be from the specs.

This case was just the right size to use as a carryon for an international trip. I carried a Pentax K-5 body and 18-250 lens. I separated them to better use the space when on the airplane and carried them ready to use when walking about. On the flight I had room for batteries, miscellaneous personal items, phone charger and a light jacket. I turned the separators upside down so that the flap provided a bit of additional bottom padding and did not get in the way. The small outside pocket was useful for pills, toothbrush, pens, etc. I was able to squeeze a bubble-wrapped iPad between the foam box and the outside shell. Folded papers could also be squeezed into the opposite space.

The shoulder pad is very comfortable. I often carried the bag cross-shoulder for comfort and security.

This is a very strong and versatile bag at a very reasonable price.

This is a great camera bag and a tremendous value. It is deceptively small but hold a lot of gear. It has lots of pockets and compartments. The only minor down side is that it does not have padding on the top of the bag and only has a shoulder strap but no handle. Other then that it is perfect. It is a nice looking back but does not look like a camera bag. It is comfortable and light weight. It holds my Nikon D7100, Three Tamron lenses 10 - 24, 18- 75, & 70 - 300 VC, SB 910 flash with accessories and users manual, grey card, IPad Mini, Extra camera battery and alkaline batteries, remote shutter release, softbox, lens paper and lens cloth. Pretty amazing!
