Questions? Ask our experts:

The Cineroid EVF4C Electronic Viewfinder offers an eyepiece view or an LCD view. The eyepiece/optical loupe can be flipped or detached completely to reveal a 3.2" LCD with an 800 x 480 resolution.

Atop the eyepiece is a diopter adjuster. When you're in eyepiece mode, you can rotate the adjuster until the image in view becomes clear. For extending loupe length, an extension tube comes included to be placed behind the eyepiece.

Connection to a camera and output to a preview monitor are both by HDMI. For monitoring audio, a speaker is built in and a 3.5mm headphone jack is also available. The EVF4C has a 1/4" screw-hole at its bottom. A great way to mount is by articulating arm via the 1/4" screw-hole. Otherwise, you can mount onto camera hot-shoes and tripods per an optional mini shoe-mount adapter.

In addition to dedicated menu buttons, the unit features programmable buttons. Many features, such as peaking and zebra, can be programmed into these buttons for quick-access and smooth operation.

Peaking
Helps with focus by outlining the edges of focused subjects. The EVF4C features two types of peaking: white and red outlines.
Clip Guide
Defines highly-overexposed areas by pasting them with dramatic colors.
Saturation Zebra
Indicates with "lines" whether exposure has gone beyond / below trigger points. Trigger points are assignable per a threshold measurement displayed on-screen. Zebra range is selectable between 3, 5, 8 and 11%. Two types of Zebra lines are available -- moving and fixed.
False Color
Reveals exposure by displaying subjects in limited colors, showing exposure rate with 6 different colors. Two types of false color settings are available.
Crop Guide
Darkens portions of the viewing area to help frame a shot in accordance with what it will look like when later cropped to be viewed in different aspect ratios.
Anamorphic
Changes the ratio of an image distorted by an anamorphic lens so to display the image properly. The EVF4C features pre-defined ratios but ratios can also be adjusted manually.
Pixel to Pixel Mapping
Zooms into and displays a portion of an image with every pixel that the portion was captured in even if it was captured in a resolution higher than that of the EVF4C's.
Monochrome (Black and White)
Displays an image in grayscale.
Underscan
Slightly shrinks an image to reveal the edges of its frame; useful for certain production objectives.
Audio Level
Displays on screen the audio levels captured. (A speaker and headphone jack are available for monitoring captured audio.)
Screen Flip
Rotates an image in various ways to support different vertical and horizontal mounting options.
Custom Keys
The EVF4C has quick-access buttons that the above features can be programmed into.

Comments about Cineroid EVF4C Electronic Viewfinder:

I puchased this for use with my 70D and it works great and uses the same battery. It adds some nice features such as focus peaking and zebras. When turned on the screen on the camera does turn off so any menu or shooting changes need to be made using the control buttons. It work great with glasses and includes a spacer to add more adjustability if needed. The unit is very light but is fairly large and I ended up getting a DSLR cage system to mount it.

Comments about Cineroid EVF4C Electronic Viewfinder:

I purchased this EVF after returning the Zacuto C100 Z-Finder Pro. For $ more I was able to get the EVF4C a true EVF with flip out viewfinder. I have been using the Cineroid evf for everything. it adds an extra level of stability to the camera and helps with critical focusing. The peaking is not much be be desired but works ok. For indoor use it can be used a second monitor. The eyecup is very comfortable and blocks out sunlight. It also keeps the camera in stealth mode when operation outdoors day and night. This is one of the best investment towards the C100 thus Far.

Comments about Cineroid EVF4C Electronic Viewfinder:

This sounded to good to be true, and it is. The peaking is terrible, causing all the display items on the screen to "peak" along with the focus, and really is unusable. It is also difficult to shut out the sunlight with the eyepiece. I would stay away.

Comments about Cineroid EVF4C Electronic Viewfinder:

I have to admit that I'm not familiar at all with any other electronic viewfinders to know where the EVF4C stands on the scale. However, in my personal experience it's what makes it possible for me to successfully shoot dSLR-based video. It works extremely well, and the "use red dots to show me sharpness" mode is the key to manual focus. I'm very happy with it on my Canon T3i and my Canon 7D.A couple of notes: there appear to be two different models out there. A coworker's that I trialed took a Sony battery and had mini-HDMI connectors; however, the model I bought & received, which I assume is the current one, uses a Canon LP-E6 (7D, 5Dmkii) battery and has a full-size HDMI connector. It does not include a mount. I bought and am very pleased with the WindTech CM-80 hot shoe-to-1/4" adapter. The only quirk I face is that the Canons switch modes (1080i when idle, 480i when recording) and that means a resync (color bar screen) whenever I start or stop recording. My coworker uses this professionally in the studio and has been pleased with it there.
