Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

I do dislike the price tag, but after using this lens for the past two weeks, I have fogotten that only downside. I rented a number of very wide lenses made by Nikon, Zeiss and one other manufacturer while researching this purchase and the Zeiss 15mm proved the best at corner-to-corner sharpness, rendering and overall smooth transitions and bokeh. After all, lenses - especially of the build quality of Zeiss - last a lifetime, so you owe it to yourself to save for the best and buy it once and enjoy the quality for a lifetime.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

I have three Zeiss ZF.2 lenses. This is my favorite for producing dramatic photos of dramatic landscapes. Please note: this is not my most-used lens. The built-in lens hood works very well, but it keeps this lens from adapting to the Lee Filter System. Bummer. I use the Zeiss 21mm (which works great with Lee Filters) for more than twice as many photos as the Zeiss 15mm, especially during low-light situations. But when the light is right, nothing can beat this lens. It's rugged, it's sharp, and it really limits parallax (converging vertical lines) when used correctly. It's better than I expected, and that's saying a lot for a lens that is nearly $ . The build quality is so good that I am using this lens in off-the-grid locations without hesitation.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

I was extremely disappointed with Nikkor 16-35mm F4 and Nikkor 24mm F1.4 on D800E. D800E didn't mercy best from its own family! So I sadly opt for my old trusty D700 for wide angle work. And D800E for 70-200mm F2.8 VR2 and 105mm F2.8 Macro lenses. Thing changed once it got this 15mm F2.8 Distagon from Zeiss. The Zeiss 15mm F2.8 is now permanently mounted on D800E, and D700 now serving mid to long lens job.

My simple advise to D800E owner, get this lens for your landscape work. You will be happy, guaranteed.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

I have been a professional landscape nature photographer since 1981 and have shot with everything from view cameras, Hasselblads, and in recent years with nikon d3x and d800.I must say I am very happy with this lens. I was using the nikon 14-24 f2.8 and the Nikon 16-35. This lens is so much sharper edge to edge than any Nikon Lens I have used. I think the milti coating is much superior to nikons as well since when I shoot into the sun or near it I don't get the undesirable rainbow aberation the Nikon lenses I have. This lens is worth every penny I spent on it and I wish I had purchased it sooner.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

The one thing I would say first, that I have enjoyed the most, is the fact that *Everything* is in focus after 5 feet. Whatever your shooting, just set the focus ring to infinity and your good to go. Don't have to worry about auto focus confirm or any nonsense. However I shoot with a micro-prism installed into an F6 so I can manual focus easily if I need to.

Aside from that Wow is this lens Gorgeous, it performs like a Boss, it's sharp, it keeps all the lines straight with minimal stretching distortion in the corners. Almost no chromatic aberration just like the 2/25 and the upcoming 1.4/55.

This lens is extremely wide and will not work for everything. But when it does work... it's a dream. Some of the compositions you can orchestrate are fabulous and have that legendary Zeiss 3D look that photographers have appreciated for decades. I shoot this lens on Velvia 50 slide film and it's as sharp as my 200mm F2 VR prime. The lens cap does not fall off my sample like some people have claimed. I would imagine that is a pretty rare thing and i'm sure Carl Zeiss support would fix you up if this was the case.

Check out the samples I have uploaded to see what this lens can do with color slides. Northern Lights on E100VS and the Rooster on T64.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

I purchased this lens in the hopes that it would replace my 14-24 Nikon, as I much prefer shooting with primes. The 14-24 is an excellent lens, but I seemed to mostly use it pulled back to 14mm, and at that focal length the lens has visually noticeable barrel distortion. Additionally, I wasn't fond of having to mess with the Lee filter holder for the 14-24...I shoot predominantly landscapes, and the use of C-pols, ND, and ND grad filters is vital. The Zeiss 15mm fits any 95mm filter in the traditional screw-on mount...that alone is what sealed the deal for me to buy this lens.

I've used Zeiss F-mount lenses quite a bit (I own the 21mm and 35mm)...so I was already quite certain that this lens would not disappoint and would deliver tack sharp images with that unique color contrast which only the "Zeiss look" can produce. True to form, this lens delivers outstanding image quality...perhaps I am a biased observer, but I believe there is a subtle quality to pictures rendered by a Zeiss lens that Nikon lenses cannot match.

The 15mm Distagon has no perceivable flaws from my point of view. It feels as if it was hewn from solid granite...turning the focus ring feels smooth and precise, similar to other Zeiss lenses. There is minor barrel distortion, as is the case with any wide angle of this focal length, but it is far less noticeable than the 14-24 Nikon opened up to 14mm. It's got some heft to it, which you expect from an f/2.8 wide angle...but as is the case with any prime vs. a zoom counterpart, it's lighter than the 14-24mm. Chromatic aberration is almost nonexistent, even in very high dynamic ranges.

In sum, this is the most impressive wide-angle lens I have ever used...zoom or prime. If you can stomach the price, it's worth every penny. For the landscape photographer, you won't find anything better in its focal length.

Comments about Zeiss Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 ZF.2 Lens for Nikon F Mount:

Terrific lens for creating highly dramatic perspectives. Although it could be used as a landscape or architecture lens, the 21mm Distagon is probably better suited for that. This lens is for practically dragging the viewer into the scene.

Very impressive sharpness and micro contrast from corner to corner. The colors are excellent right out of the lens. On a D800E, the image quality seems very slighty better than the Nikon 14-24/2.8, but the two lenses seem very equivalent. The Zeiss provides for far superior manual focusing, but to get the best focus, a tripod + Live View are a must.
