The Series 4 6X Systematic 5-Section Traveler Tripod from Gitzo is a great choice for those looking for a tripod that features rigid carbon fiber support, yet adaptable and flexible configurations. The Series 4 tripods are ideal for supporting larger video or DSLR cameras, and lenses.

The Series 4 tripod has a unique modular system that can be quickly transformed into different configurations, in as little as 15 seconds, and the same tripod can support both photographic and video equipment. With a negligible weight of only 4.74 lb, this tripod can be extended to 4.4' high and handle a DSLR with up to a 500mm lens, or a medium-sized spotting scope for bird-watching.

Series 4 tripods have an Anti Leg Rotation system (ALR), G-Lock, and brushed matte black finish for improved locking performance and minimized reflectivity. A wide selection of accessories allows you to keep growing your system according to your future needs, whether they are still life, macro, outdoor, sport or wildlife applications.

Anti Leg Rotation
This tripod can be opened in less than 15 seconds. Simply loosen all the twist locks on each leg at the same time, then pull the leg down and tighten the locks individually.
G-Lock
For a strong, fast, and safer locking mechanism, G-Lock's special design provides a 'gravity lock' effect: the higher the load applied vertically to the leg, the stronger the lock becomes.
Leg Ends
With removable rubber feet, the Series 4 allows you to easily change worn out rubber feet or to fit other accessories, such as spiked feet.

      Perfect

Comments about Gitzo Series 4 6X Systematic 5-Section Traveler Tripod:

Using it for Nikon D800 w/ a 300mm 2.8 lens, and carrying it in a backpack. It is relatively light, very comfortable to fold and unfold, folds to a minimal length, and above all - very sturdy and stable.

        Ultimate Tripod

        By Preston

Comments about Gitzo Series 4 6X Systematic 5-Section Traveler Tripod:

While this tripod may not be perfect for everyone it is for me. This tripod is lightweight, compact, sturdy and quick and easy to setup and tear down; everything I want in a tripod. This is a travel tripod and many would think it only good for hikers and travelers needing small, portable support. However I find it equally useful in shooting wildlife with a large, heavy telephoto lens or landscape, both requiring a sturdy tripod.

Comments about Gitzo Series 4 6X Systematic 5-Section Traveler Tripod:

I live in the black hills and I hike and travel often. As a longtime amateur I eventually accepted just how important the tripod was in the making of more successful photographs consistently – as important than even the camera and lens.

I recently spoiled myself in buying the Gitzo GT4552TS, and I now with only a month's use I have found that I bring it everywhere and use it much more often due to its ease of packing and setting up and noticeable stability. Its light and compact nature and simplicity of use are notable and, with my pack hooked on it, it has been quite effective so far - often stabilizing quite well in the wind my canon 5d Mark 2 &3's with 100-400L lens with 2x extender, and in making panoramic photographs.

This is an elegant piece of equipment, beautifully crafted and as such just plain fun. Is it worth the money, probably not, as other high end tripods may be just a good. However it seems to be worth the extra dollars for the added value and hopefully for a long lifetime of use. Now, if I could only carry on my trips less lenses, not bring the heavy RRS BH55 ball head with, and loose about 25 of my own pounds, I could truly justify the added expense.

If there are any negatives besides the cost, I have two. The first, which probably not limited to just this product, concerns the manufactures limit of cold weather use to roughly 20 Degrees or above which is problematic for outdoor photographers (and made me feel a bit foolish when I found this information buried in the manufactures literature). And, it there is a extreme heat issue as well... Ah...time will tell.

Secondly, the center column and other accessories are a premium (and seemingly unreasonable) added cost for the privilege.
