Main use of this unit is for home theater but it also has great music playback. Central hub use for all HDMI components and USB devices outputting as a 7.2 surround system. It is driving 2 pairs of older technology floor standing 3 way speakers as front mains and rear surrounds. Bookshelf speakers with a low frequency crossover at 60hz for front highs and a 12 inch powered subwoofer for extra low frequency boost. High end center channel speaker utilized with crossover at 40hz provides excellent vocal reproduction. The standing floor speakers with 10 and 12 inch woofers were driven hard enough by this receiver that the sub was almost not even needed but certainly was a great addition. B&H delivered this Onkyo with free shipping at an unbelievably low price, cannot be beat anywhere.

Sound cut in and out when using cable/TV source. Spent several hours trying to solve. Finally spoke with Onkyo rep and concluded product was defective.
Further, perhaps I should have known when I purchased, but the Zone-2 output only works with Analog/FM source. Can't stream audio from ANY other source - Like Apple TV, Pandora from my Blu-Ray player etc. Disappointing! Also, labels on all the functional buttons on the receiver are so small and faint they are almost impossible to read!! Other than TV/Audio and a high degree of difficulty following "setup"instructions, (I'm not an audiophile)the device performed well. B&H were QUICK to accept a return and give me a refund. My advice: Read the Onkyo online forums BEFORE making a purchase!

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR515 A/V Home Theater Receiver:

Really a great price x benefit receiver, offering several HDMIs and lots of features, but really hard to install and set up. I consider myself an 'advanced user', with a good knowledge of sound, and even though I spent a long time setting up this receiver. There are so many options, and several of them impact on other options that you will have to spend some hours...

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR515 A/V Home Theater Receiver:

I was originally looking at the TX-NR616 model from Onkyo. Right around the time I was getting ready to order, it was discontinued, so my second choice was the TX-NR515. It was less expensive, but I felt it had many of the same features. I was really interested in the Front/Rear USB ports and the multiple HDMI outputs. Right now I have two DVD players running through the receiver. The On-Screen User Interface is a definite improvement from my 2008 Onkyo receiver. You can also access Pandora, Rhapsody, and a ton of other Music services through this interface and the RJ-45 network connection - right through the receiver. The improved interface made setup fun and intuitive. Allows for a lot of "tweaking". I was hoping that the unit had a little more Audio headroom - meaning it seems that I have to turn it up quite a bit to get some of that "punch" - around 40. It has less wattage per channel than the 616 did. Out of fairness, I still have to connect a subwoofer and center channel speaker, but initial testing was favorable. I also have not played around with some of the sound presets such as Movie, Music etc.. which will surely affect the overall sound output. Onkyo includes a small corded microphone so that the receiver and speaker levels can be calibrated based on the acoustics of your room. Way cool. I also bought the Onkyo UBT-1 Bluetooth USB Dongle. The instructions said I might need a firmware upgrade, but the UBT-1 worked like charm right out of the box. I streamed Pandora wirelessly through my phone. Awesome. For the price difference, I'm quite happy with the TX-NR515. For the money, it has robust features and is an excellent value.

Bought this unit to replace an older Onkyo home theater receiver. Very easy to setup with HDMI from all my components (Blu-Ray, Cable, XBox 360). The on screen display for setup is great and easy to follow. The sound quality is fantastic. The iPod integration is one of my favorite features. This unit had most of the features I was looking for in a receiver and is far less expensive than other brands. Definately alot of bang for your buck. I would purchase again.

The receiver is a good quality unit and sound is excellent. Every thing worked good accept the assignable configuration for the inputs. Some inputs could not be change or reassigned to a different input. I could not use all the input like composite and component because some shared the same input selection and could not be reassigned. So I would either need to turn off or disconnect one unit to play the other unit. Example: One Game input with both composite and component assigned.

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR515 A/V Home Theater Receiver:

Let me start by saying, before getting this receiver, read the reviews here and in [*]. You do need to flash the firmware with the USB update when you first get it. Once you did that, then no more worries. Been a couple of months and it works great. Sometimes the HDMI video takes a minute to figure itself out but their latest firmware update seem to have fixed the video issue people were complaining about. We also chose this one due to all the input ports. We still have a VCR, tape deck and turntable we want to connect up to it and this receiver is one of the last ones left that can handle all of our input. Add the built in network and you have a winner. Onkyo fixed their iPhone App a couple of weeks ago and now I use it exclusively to control my unit, not the remote. I can walk around the house and play music without even being in the same room as the receiver. Or stream music from my iPhone to this receiver over wifi. The sound is awesome and on screen GUI is way better than some of the old fashion text only menus of the cheaper receivers. It was the best bang for the buck for what I need from an AV Receiver.

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR515 A/V Home Theater Receiver:

I can only give it 4 stars at this point due to only haveing the unit for 2 weeks. I have not had time to really dig into all the bells and whisles yet. but so far the sound is incredible with the energy 5.1 theather speaker package that I also purchased. Easy to set up, it took longer to hook-up and run the wires than it did to get all the settings and audessey done.

I use this to route a digital cable box, roku box, and sony blu-ray player with netflix, to a 42 inch 480p panasonic plasma with a 7.1 surround system (after hooking up the 515). For some reason the blu-ray will not connect to the dvd input on the onkyo and just shows a blue screen (hence the 4 stars) but with 7 total hdmi inputs i just switched it over to the pc input and the blu-ray runs just fine. the unit sounds great with clear definition on all channels and it has multiple sound field settings to customize to your heart's content. the audessy set-up was easy with the included mic and the volume leveling and dynamic leveling make it very compatible with apartment living as you can clearly hear all sounds without having to blast the volume. the remote immediately controlled my cable box with no set-up and was easy to get the hang of. sometimes the voice channel is too low for my liking but it is very easy to set the volume for individual channels and turn up the center channel by itself. the internet radio sites such as pandora work fine and its worth it to have that as part of your home entertainment system. i did the firmware upgrade immediately upon getting it and have had no problems with hdmi switching other than not being able to get the dvd hdmi channel to work. for the money, when you count all the output and input channels (7/2) and internet connectivity i'd have to say that the nr515 is the best surround system out there right now.

This started out to be a replacemet stereo reciever for a 30 yr. old Pioneer that I had in my shop. I just wanted to listen to the local classic rock stations and not have the left channel drop out on me any more. I finally got tired of having to wack it with a can of wd40 in order to have both channels work. Having said that I bought the Onkyo NR515 as a repalcement because I also wanted to listen to things I had downloaded to my Iphone. This unit works great for that. I also found that it had features that plug in to a tv. So I bought a new flat screen once I discovered this too. I had no idea how cool this was going to be I love it!!! I also bought the internet radio thing that plugs in back. I love this too. The only problem I have with this set up is that I spend more time playing with it than I do getting stuff done.

Replaced a well loved mid to high level, mid-1990's receiver from another manufacturer with this unit. I found the unit easy to install and incredibily easy to integrate satellite tv, ipod's, blue-ray, etc.. SLICK.. I also got the wirless apdapter so that I can easily stream music from the internet.

B&H was also simple to work with. Cheaper prices than all of their competitors (significantly cheaper) and the unit came as described.

My only complaint so far is that I think my remote might have a problem with zone 2 (speakers in other rooms). I can run zone 2 off of the front of the receiver but not from the remote.

All in all, I'm very pleased.

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR515 A/V Home Theater Receiver:

I use this unit to power my office audio/video setup. I use only the 5.1 capability even though it can handle 7.1. I especially like the computer capability with Pandora and ready access to my iPod via the usb ports. Digital sources sound awesome through this unit. At this price point this receiver is features rich and has plenty of power to rock my world!
