There are alot of features that I have not used yet but it seems to be a pretty good product overall wit the exception of the following..vol control knob goes up to around 50-52 before you hear sound, a couple of the hdmi connectors at the back do not hold the cables firmly (little play). Was able to use one of my speakers only once but that could be a speaker issue...have not had the time to further investigate. Set up was fairly straightforward although, no manual was in box...had to go to website to download...major pain when setting up. B and H included the wireless usb...thank you guys, much appreciated. Shipping was extremely fast as always...Pleasure ordering from them as always!! Decent price for unit. I am using it with home theater setup. Hopefully my logitech remote will pick up programming.

What is Great: This receiver has a great sound, with many audio options. Audissey is great also, the way it can configure speakers. Lots of input conections, two HDMI outputs that is also a deal on this price line.

What is Bad: This is a new product line, so some important things are still not working well. The HDMI passthrough is not working. The Main HDMI output has failures when the receiver is kept some time into stand-by mode. Many owners has those problems and are waiting for a firmware release to solve them.
The IOS app is poor, other brands are a lot more interesting.
Specially for who is taking it to Brazil: Most of the Web services doesn´t work in brazil, because are not available. So doesn´t consider it as differential.

I bought this reciever a month ago and it has worked flawlwssly I was very adamant about purchasing this due to bad reviews but went ahead and gave it a shot anyway. I am very pleased with my purchase and feel that it would be very hard to match the product and it's features for for any less than double the money

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR616 A/V Home Theater Receiver:

Product is used in my living room home theatre in a 5.1 setup. Plan to add a couple more front speakers in the near future and the system is capable. Sound of the system is fantastic for the price. Sounds world better than a similar category H&K I was using the past 5 years. HDMI switching works flawlessly so far.
Net features such as Internet Radio are handy.
        100% satisfied with the purchase.
Shipping was good. I cringed a little when I saw the UPS driver flipping the box around to read the bar code but the system was packaged sufficiently and no issues to report.

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR616 A/V Home Theater Receiver:

I put this receiver into my basement home theater. Having 2 HDMI outputs allows me to watch tv on my flatscreen or a movie from my projector without having to get an HDMI switcher, or having to unplug and switch cables. We also have a Nintendo Wii, and the receiver takes the component video input, upconverts it, and sends it out over HDMI, this allows me to have only one HDMI input into my flatscreen and projector. It takes input from 8 sources (Blu-ray, cable TV, Game system, etc.) and outputs them all through the 2 HDMI outputs. One of the first things I did was to use the included microphone to calibrate the speaker output. It sent a "zapping" sound through all of the speakers individually, and had me move the microphone to three different listening positions. I guess it measures the source sound and the reflections, made by your walls and objects in the room, then calculates an optimum solution for the three listening positions. I put in a CD to test the "optimization", and I've never heard it sound so good on any other system! Then I watched a 3D movie with THX, and was blown away. This receiver is an outstanding value for the money!

After a lot of reading reviews and watching for falling prices...I pulled the trigger. Found some used speakers on clist and received it from BH in 2 days. I had some worries about some previous firmware issues but gotta say, i havent updated so far in the first three hours and am all set up, no issues with anything not working, all cars go.All I/O worked fine and the best unexpected perk of all was that this I control everything with the remote included: Cable box w/ DVR, Apple TV, the ipod input on front (charges too), and internet music. Replaced 3 remotes. Done. What's that? Remote's lost? Fell in the abyss in the couch? Oh, just use the iOS app. It's a remote as well. Take it sleazy.I'm a product engineer by trade and gotta say the flexibility and connectivity of this beast is just staggering. I didn't get the wifi or bluetooth adapter and I still don't have a device i can't connect with. I'm sure theres better ones out there, and this is my first A/V receiver but @ $[$]? It's over.

(It may indicate that on the iPhone app, haven't tried that yet)

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR616 A/V Home Theater Receiver:

This AVR is loaded with featurs uncommon at the street price. I like the zone 3 capability and the second HDMI output. All 7.1 AVR's have powered zone 2 so Zone 3 is an actual extra. If you really do a close comparison feature by feature of the 616 compared to much, much more expensive receivers, you will notice this lacks very little. Some of the things it lacks such as digital output to zone 2 and 3 are lacking on receivers three and four times the price. I don't care about Airplay and wouldn't use it and so it not being there will never be noticed by me. The wireless functionality is seemless and smooth and my wireless source is 40 feet, three walls, a set of doors and a set of cabinet doors plus a whole story away. Even with those disadvantages, wireless is instant without any issues. The new 626 replaced Audyssey 2EQ with Multi so that's been addressed but the 626 dropped several features if you go through the spec sheet line by line.

I'm so bummed on my new receiver! This is my 3rd Onkyo home theater reciever so I figured it a no brainer to get another Onkyo. I'm useing it primarily for movies,TV and music. My first issue is with the SLOW response time with the ipod, also dont like the fact that you have to operate all ipod functions with the receiver and if your TV is not turned on you've got to turn it on if you want more then just the scrolling info on the receiver. This issue I could probably live with if this were the only problem. However I've also had problems with the receiver reading the ipod being there at all...unplug, power off, try again to get it to work, un acceptible for any audio device much less the Onkyo brand. Second issue is with my Zone 2 speakers. I have 2 ceiling speakers in my game room which is adjacent to my family room were the primary speakers are. I have had problems getting the zone 2 speakers to turn on, sometimes they will and sometimes they won't and last weekend when I got them to turn on, the delay between Zone 2 and the primary speakers was so bad I had to turn them off. Third Issue, sound quality isn't that great. I'm running decent JBL in wall speakers with a Klipsch stand alone center speaker and I'm not that impressed. I've used the set up speaker to set up but still does not impress me. I've lived with the receiver for 3 weeks now hoping it might be operator error or that I could live with it's short comings but for the price I paid I expect somewhat good performance

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR616 A/V Home Theater Receiver:

I'm using this receiver to power my built in surrond sound speakers in my media room and a pair of ceiling speakers in the living room. Set up was easy and the firmware downloaded quickly when connected to my modem via
Ethernet cable. The free Onkyo app comes in handy especially for controlling zone 2. Some con's are no way to adjust the sound quality for Zone 2 speakers (no zone 2 EQ) also no powered sub output. This receiver has 2 passive sub outs, I would have liked 1 powered sub out and 1 passive. This a great receiver considering all the features and the low cost.

So far so good on this Onkyo TR-NX616. There have been mixed reviews on this item, but mine came loaded with the most recent firmware and I hope that took care of all the issues.

Easy to setup, controls are easy to use, still getting used to everything, but so far I really like the way this thing operates.

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR616 A/V Home Theater Receiver:

Just had this receiver for about a week. Setting up is quite straightforward. I have a Samsung TV, an Apple TV and a media box.
The remote was able to control AppleTV and the TV (albeit only certain functions). I was not able to figure out how to turn off both TV and Onkyo with one button (yet). As for the wiring in the back, you would think that they would have a little bit more space between the main speakers and the HDMI In input (TV), but my speaker wires were solid tip, so the speaker wire is physically touching the HDMI input.

Agree with another reviewer that to even to have medium sound level, had to turn volume up to 60+ (out of 100), which seems a bit high.

Another minor point is that the remote labels the inputs with archaic TLA (three letter acronyms), like CBL/SAT/DVD/BD - none of which I have. Wished they would just label it as input 1, 2, 3, 4. To their credit, you are able to rename the inputs to any string, which gets displayed in front LED panel and on the TV.

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR616 A/V Home Theater Receiver:

I bought this product to replace my primary home sound system. So I don't only use it as a home theater unit but also as a radio and as a amplifier for my music. First off, the sound quality is an incredible upgrade. It makes sounds crisper and sound as a higher quality. And my old unit was old but not terrible. The same is true with the sound quality on movies.I also must say I have not had the chance to use the video upscaling but look forward to it. The amount of plugs are wonderful and allow for a long future. Now when looking at this unit I saw a lot of comments about this unit being fickle and breaking down. This has only been the case in one use. I used this for a dance party at my wedding. We had all 7.1 channels plugged in and played at near full volume for about 2 hours then it shut down. It was a matter of overheating. We let it cool and put it back on. There have been no lasting effects from that 3 weeks later.I would recommend this unit to anyone interested in quality of sound, significant volume, and forward thinking plug levels with all the HDMI ports.

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR616 A/V Home Theater Receiver:

The TX-NR616 has worked well for me after a week of use. Lots of HDMI inputs, good sound, decent on-screen menus. Built-in Pandora is useful, iPhone app is handy, and easy Wi-Fi setup when used with the Onkyo UWF-1 USB Wi-Fi adapter. You can even create and change Pandora stations from the iPhone app to leave your TV off and just listen to the radio. Easy to setup Audyessy 2EQ in-room correction with included mic.

Using the iPhone app (Onkyo Remote2) requires a firmware update. I left the update to run overnight. When I checked the receiver in the morning, the HDMI output stopped working. The only thing I saw on the screen was the Onkyo logo at startup. (Startup for this thing is never instant, it takes more than a few seconds.)

After another 20 minutes of leaving the receiver alone, I saw the front panel prompt for another firmware update. When that update was complete everything worked fine.

My advice: follow all instructions on the online manual for the firmware update, be prepared to run another update, reserve an hour for each update cycle, and read up online about problems people have with the new version before installing it yourself.

The sound is pretty great. The TX-NR616 is providing more than enough power for the room it's in. I enabled "Network Standby" which lets me turn on the receiver from the iPhone app, which is useful.

The included remote can control my LG Blu-ray player and Apple TV, but strangely it can't control my BenQ projector. The BenQ brand isn't even listed in the manual.

While I'm concerned by the flaky update, I'm giving the TX-NR616 5 stars anyway for being a great value for the features and sound I'm getting out of it. I would recommend this for folks who are OK with a solution that's a good value for performance at the cost of needing some extra hassle and setup to deal with the firmware updates.

I'm using this receiver in my Family Room pulling together a blueray player, PVR and a media PC which are all output to a HD projector. Auto sound setup was a breeze and sounds fantastic. Other aspects of the setup took a bit to catch onto, there are a lot of options, but went smoothly. In the end, it sounds great and the picture quality is fantastic.

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR616 A/V Home Theater Receiver:

I was afraid of buying this unit because of the rumors about defective units from Onkyo on the Internet. BH vendor assured me that Onkyo already corrected the problem so I bought it. When I arrived home I turned the system on and did a firmware update. Everything went fine and the system is working greatly. Very good sounds and great controls. I am using those with Energy Take Classic 5.1 speakers and they sound amazing together. Only downside is that the unit can get hot but it is not a huge issue if you don't obstruct the air outlets.
