The 19mm f/2.8 EX DN Lens for Sony E Mount Camera from Sigma is a Digital Neo (DN) lens specifically designed for mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras. On a Sony E mount camera (NEX), its focal length is equivalent to 28.5mm. It has a newly developed linear AF motor for swift and accurate autofocus, making it ideal for video as well as still photography.
Three glass mold aspherical lenses offer excellent correction for distortion, color aberration and field curvature. The inner focusing system corrects the fluctuation of aberration to maintain image quality regardless of the focal distance. Multi-layer coating reduces flare and ghosting, and provides sharp and contrasty images even at the maximum aperture. The seven blades of the diaphragm produce a pleasing quality in the out-of-focus areas of an image (bokeh).

I bought it for an everyday AF lens for Sony NEX-5N. It is very compact and light compared to Sony lenses. AF is fast and reliable, and lens generates very sharp images. Colour saturation is an average. However, if you consider the price ($), I cannot say any negative things. It comes with a nice lens pouch, too. I highly recommend this product for everyday point and shoot. You can taste new Sigma DP1.

Comments about Sigma 19mm f/2.8 EX DN Lens for Sony E Mount Camera:
My NEX-EA50UH kit lens and this lens have the same exposure setting in the AE mode (I set my Sony kit lens at 18mm). I believe this lens has more saturation than my kit lens and it is a sharp lens (I was kind of surprised). When I turned the lens left and right gently, one thing gets my immediate attention is the lens elements assembly floats in the barrel and I am not sure why Sigma design it like that. Another thing is the Alignment Dot on the lens is a very humble design so it does not catch my eyes right away. Other than that, it is neck to neck with my Sony kit lens.

I've gotten maybe too used to prime lenses. The last two years I worked a GF2 with a 14 and loved it. This item was part of a fantastic 2 lens set for my new Sony NEX-7. What a relief not to deal with the package 18-55. Zooms slow me down now!

I purchased this sigma for my nex7 as my friend recommonded. 19mm is good enough to get start, and another 30mm is seldomly used. if you already have 18-55, amd do wamt to try f2.8, it will satisfy you. But if you want f1.2 or 1.4... you may need to pay more for Canon lens and adapter. 199 for both 19mm and 30mm kits set is really good!

I was debating for a long time to buy this Sigma 19mm lens for my Sony NEX-5N and, I finally made the plunge and bought it.After viewing the first pictures taken with lens ,I was happily surprised with the results and have no regrets buying this lens. The pictures are sharp and display nice colors. The corners of the frame are a little soft when taken with the widest aperture but, getting sharp as soon one closes down one stop. I'm very pleased with this lens.

Comments about Sigma 19mm f/2.8 EX DN Lens for Sony E Mount Camera:
Bought this in the package with the 30 mm which makes it almost unbeatable concerning cost/performance.
Have used it just a few days but performance is really good. Sharpness is superb in the center and in the corners it is surprisingly good. You do not have to worry about how the picture will end up there....compared to the Sony Nex kit-lens it is so much better.
I have not been putting too much pressure on the auto focus speed but it works fine and I have not experienced any back-focus or "missed" focus. Though I have not figured out the manual focus yet but I guess it has more has do with mental shortcomings for my brain. :-)
I use it on a Nex-7 and it would have been nice if it was bit smaller but I guess that could have affected the price and/or performance. If you just accept the size and mount the lens hood it looks quite nice. The light weight is also nice. I will use this with my Nex-7 as an extra camera/lens during wedding shoots together with my 5D Mark 2.

Comments about Sigma 19mm f/2.8 EX DN Lens for Sony E Mount Camera:
Either I am getting better, or this lens is really that much of a step up from the kit lens. Honestly, since I just bought my 5N 3 months ago, it's probably more of the former than it is the latter. Still, that extra stop you get for it starting at 2.8 really does help some when you are doing star photography. My pictures turned out hundreds of times better than when I first did it with my kit lens.Anyways, it's a solid built lens, doesn't feel dirt cheap, and you won't be embarrassed to have it on your camera. It obviously doesn't look or feel as good as the kit lens, but thankfully it's not all about the looks. It is shorter than the kit by about an inch, and quite a bit lighter. Keep in mind, it is over an inch longer than the pancake, so still not shirt pocket length. If there wasn't a packaged deal of this with the 30mm, I probably would of held off until Sony came out with an actual decent pancake lens. But the price was just too good to pass up. If you can get both lenses for $xxx, do it. If not, personally I would go for the 30mm only. If you are more into landscape, and night photography, then you can't go wrong with this lens. It is decently sharp and from what I've heard, loads better than the 16mm, so it's really your only option right now.

Comments about Sigma 19mm f/2.8 EX DN Lens for Sony E Mount Camera:
This is the highest optimal quality wide angle lens available for the Sony NEX camera system. At an aperture of f2.8, it provides what you would expect in low light shooting conditions... fast, clean and mean. Sharp, crisp, nice bokeh, accurate color, good contrast, minimal chromatic aberrations, pleasant pinpoint and sun flair, etc. Moreover, I'm amazed it comes in at the price offered by Sigma. Think of it as a plastic fantastic with a fast aperture and excellent build quality. Sony needs to buy Sigma and learn what they know. This lens is that good. The focusing is fast and accurate. The size is just right. I used to shoot some high quality full frames and expensive glass. I dumped it all for the NEX system and lenses like this. You can't go wrong with Sigma, at least with what they're kicking out today. They are that good. For what it's worth, nothing beats a good Sigma lens, and this is that lens.

I bought this as a 2-lens package for my Nex-5N. The price was irresistible. I have been using one of those MF SLR Magic 35mm f1.7 which is actually a great lens but I wanted fast AF lenses too. This together with the Sigma 30mm f/2.8 while not quite as fast as the f/1.7, were good enough given the 5N incredible low-light high-ISO performance.
Plus I don't lose any of the awesome 5N's features(HDR, etc).
If you have a Sony Nex camera, you can't go wrong with this.
