The 50-150mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM APO Lens for Nikon F from Sigma is a fast f/2.8 telephoto zoom lens with a 50-150mm focal length (75-225mm equivalent in 35mm format) designed for cameras with a Nikon F mount. This long autofocus telephoto gets you close to the action, and it has an optical image stabilization system that makes it possible to hand-hold the lens at up to four shutter speeds slower than usual, while maintaining sharp, shake-free images. The Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) gives you quiet, high-speed autofocus, and also allows full-time manual focus override.

Six SLD glass elements help prevent chromatic aberrations, and provide excellent image quality throughout the zoom range. Super Multi Coating on the glass surfaces reduces flare and ghosting, and helps ensure high-contrast images. The 9-blade diaphragm gives a very pleasing quality to the out-of-focus areas of your photos (generally known as bokeh). A built-in tripod collar provides a solid mount when it's placed on a tripod.

Long telephoto (75-225mm equivalent) lens for cameras with APS-C sensors
Fast continuous maximum aperture of f/2.8 at all focal lengths
Built-in optical image stabilization (OS) allows hand-holding telephoto lens at shutter speeds 4 stops slower than without OS
Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and ensures sharp and high contrast images, even in backlit conditions
HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures quiet and high speed autofocus while allowing full-time manual focus override
An inner focusing and inner zooming system to provide convenient handling
Six SLD glass elements compensate for chromatic aberrations and provide high image quality throughout the zoom range

This is a super lens. The optics are unsurpassed! So why only two stars? This lens had MAJOR back-focus problems. I am a Sigma fan, but this is completely intolerable, particularly for a f/2.8 lens. So...yes, I would recommend this lens, with major reservations.

When I first test the lens in tripod with my D7000, I was disappointed to find there was a back focus issue. I was just gonna send it back but found a forum how to adjust the D7000 focus problem and a few tweaks at -14, the result is awesome!

Using this as my main lens for single subject Portrait. Camera back focused in the beginning, even when stopped down to f/4. Had to send it back to Sigma along with the camera to have it calibrated, and has been awesome since.

Comments about Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM APO Lens for Nikon F:

I was considering this Sigma along with the Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 and the Nikon 70-200mm F4. Unlike the other two, on a crop sensor, this converts to a more "usable" 75-225mm. The image resolution is top notch. The bokeh is quite creamy. The wide aperture is ready for the challenges of night photography and indoor low light situations. It has not disappointed. As others have cited, this lens has some weight to it, but don't let that be a deterrent. The image quality makes it worth while. The professionals at B and H know their product line and I appreciate the shopping experience.

The Sigma 50–150mm is exactly what I needed! The Nikon 70 – 200 was too much lens for me shooting basketball. The lenses well-built, quick to focus, quick to respond to changes I make it my camera. I have use this lens indoors and outdoors for sports, family gatherings, and portraits. I am very pleased with the Sigma 50-150 after shooting 1000+ pictures with it!

Sharp results for isolating subjects. I used this lens for indoor low natural light pet photos with excellent results. These were handheld shots with the OS on.This is a heavy lens and I highly recommend using a tripod for shooting distant subjects and isolating subjects in landscapes. Be sure to turn OS off. This lens is for crop sensor cameras and I mate it to a Nikon D7100 which has a 1.5X crop. ........

Comments about Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM APO Lens for Nikon F:

It focuses fast and accurately; IQ is superb, almost good as Nikons' 70-200mm; It is almost as heavy too. Build quality is excellent and image stabilization works well, about 3 stops. This lens from Sigma is the only lens on the market that gives the DX body an equivalent "70-200mm" as the full frame systems. Too bad this lens was recently discontinued by Sigma. I hope Sigma keeps this lens in their lineup with an update.

I like the Nikon version that I use for D7100 so much that I recently purchased a used Canon mount from B&H for use on 7D and eventually 7D Mk II.

Comments about Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM APO Lens for Nikon F:

I recently acquired this lens and I am just amazed how great it is for a crop sensor camera. It focuses quick and having f/2.8 at the long end is just great. However in my case, everything came with a small issue. The lens front-focuses quite a bit, I didn't notice this before I was trying to focus on persons eyes at f/2.8 and it just didn't get it right. Luckily this was fixable from my camera body (D7000) with some af-tuning and now the lens works great. About the lens construction, some may find the lens quite heavy.

Comments about Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM APO Lens for Nikon F:

When I got my D5100 with a plan to eventually go full-frame I decided to only buy full-frame lenses. But then I realized the full-frame was a few years away still, so getting the $ 70-200mm just seemed like overkill, particularly when this lens is under $. I recently used it at an outdoor night concert and took quite a few pictures at 150mm. Now I'm rethinking my need for full-frame. Yes I'm that happy with this upgrade.Great image quality, heavy, solid, fast focusing, tack-sharp focus. I can't think of one negative to report. I did click heavy on the form, but not sure I agree that's a negative; I see it as a sign of quality.I still plan to eventually go full-frame, but this lens has pushed that time a little further back. This is a must-buy if you're on a DX frame.

Comments about Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM APO Lens for Nikon F:

Great for Portraits even at full zoom at 150mm (see sample photo). Tried to decide for weeks between the 70-200 and this 50-150 and because I do weddings and sometimes there is not a lot of room to stand far back during the reception I opted for this one and glad I did. I have the Sigma 17-50 for the ceremony and this one is great especially for the reception if very dark and if I do not have an assistant to keep an eye on my external flashes set up on stands in two corners of the room.If the room is not so dark then I use my Nikon 18-300 because it will find the focus quickly and cover all ranges and with external flashes in 2 corners of the rooms. Great for all other events, Sweet 16s etc. But I got this lens in case I have a ceremony in a church (especially some catholic churches) where no flash is allowed. Then I will wear 2 bodies one with the Sigma 17-50 and this 50-150 or give my assistant the 50-150 to shoot from the back. See sample image taken inside my house with no flash just natural sunlight shining in through window. Zoom at 150mm/ISO 800/Shutter 1/80 f/2.8 on Nikon D7000 with no filter. Filter was delivered the following day I do not know if a filter will make it less clear have not tested it yet.

Comments about Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM APO Lens for Nikon F:

I was really nervous about dropping a thousand dollars on a Sigma lens... I've never bought third-party stuff. I've only had this lens for a week, but so far I am impressed. Sigma earned my trust.I hit local bars to test the low light performance, and I was happy with the results. Obviously, to get the best out of this lens, you must have a professional understanding of photography; otherwise, this lens is no better than a kit lens. It's sharp, it is fast and it is well built. It feels great in the hands, but quite heavy(you'll get used to it). I shoot with a Nikon D5100 - not exactly the most renowned for handling high ISOs - but the images I got at 800 ISO were fantastic. I can't imagine what this lens could do on a D7000!It's normal to have doubts about spending this much money on a Sigma lens, but I can assure you, you will not regret it (if you are ready to upgrade your gear or give a step forward on your professional career). ZOOM & STABILIZATION are sweet.

During a field trip to photograph Snow Geese and Trumpeter Swans, the len's autofocus function stopped working entirely. I still got some very nice images while rediscovering my manual focusing skills, but I also missed a number of opportunities. While I continue to be very happy with this lens, I was disappointed to be denied its use for four weeks while the lens was being repaired. The parts needed to effect the repair were back-ordered which contributed to the delay.

Excellent Lens! I bought this for my D7100 after reading DXO recommendations for my camera. I can say I couldn't be more pleased! Super sharp, excellent bokeh, fast - what else can be said? It is heavy and long (especially with the hood), but nothing that can't easily be managed. Love it!

I bought this lens because of the performance that all the reviews and users claims for the price. I absolutely agree with them. After a couple of weeks of use, I'm very happy with the image quality, but I finally pay attention to the front glass and I discovered a couple of dots of dust in between. I haven't seen any of them on my photos yet, but I planning to send it back to the store to assure that everything's gonna be ok. Lesson: check carefully your gear when you receive it.

Comments about Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM APO Lens for Nikon F:

I ummm'd and ahhh'd for ages about getting this lens, should I spend a considerable amount more and get the big brand N & C equivalents 70-200's as I intend to go full frame one day. Then again the focal length would be more than I really wanted on my DX body. Read countless reviews and watched all the YouTube videos etc.. and finally having weighed up all the information I took the plunge and purchased this lens.

What an incredible lens !! Sure if you get your microscope out and compare the images from the big brand N & C equivalents then they will come out maybe 5% better, however this lens is only 40% of the cost. A no brainer if you ask me. Zoom is fast, images are super crisp and detailed, the bokeh is wonderful. Just amazing value for money.

The only negative point for me is that this lens is not weather sealed, but at its price point i'm fine with that.

Comments about Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM APO Lens for Nikon F:

In the days of film, professional cameras and lenses were built like tanks and meant to last a lifetime. Today we can use cheaper, lighter, and smaller digital equipment that can be replaced every few years as the technology advances. Old attitudes, however, die hard and pros still tend to invest in major brand lenses. This made sense when they were built for film cameras and were not dependent on the longevity of sophisticated internal electronics. The Sigma 50-150 F2.8 is the DX equivalent to the FX 70-200 pro zooms we use to shoot events. It's just as sharp and is sturdily built, with good auto-focussing and image stabilisation, but it costs half the price of a major brand.Top marks to Sigma for producing a sharp, wide aperture zoom suited to DX cameras. The only downside is that it's as big and heavy as the FX equivalents. If it were slimmer, shorter and lighter I would have given it five stars. Digital technology has introduced obsolescence into what we buy and expect from our equipment. I'll be happy to get a good few years of use out this lens and then upgrade it to the next amazing model. I hope Sigmas efforts are a wake up call to the Major brands to produce advanced DX lenses at realistic prices.

Good lens but it doesn't work on d800 only on my d7000. Was told by the b and h staff that it was a full frame lens. Probably will return it. Otherwise it's great.
