What item is right for you?

Ask our Experts!

The Thunderbolt SSD from Elgato Systems is an ultra-fast portable hard drive that features both a Solid State Drive (SSD), as well as Thunderbolt technology. With this combination you will have a device that dramatically outperforms the data transfer speeds of portable FireWire or USB drives, while also being far less prone to damage or failure than traditional hard drives.

Even better, the Elgato Thunderbolt SSD uses a strong metal enclosure for added protection of your valuable data as it shoots through the Thunderbolt cable (sold separately). It also has no need for noisy fans or spinning disks due to the SSD having no moving parts, so you won't hear a sound as your files race at speeds of 270 MB/s.

Lightning-Fast
The Elgato Thunderbolt SSD is one of the fastest single-drive storage solutions for your data managing needs. Utilizing a Solid State Drive (SSD), it dramatically outperforms state-of-the-art portable FireWire or USB drives
Ultra-Portable
The Elgato Thunderbolt SSD is engineered to draw power directly from the devices it plugs into, through the Thunderbolt port, without needing a separate cumbersome power supply. Now your data can always be there with you, even when you're not near a power source
Safe and Sound
Having no moving, mechanical parts, Solid State Drives are far less prone to accidental damage than traditional hard drives. Going even further, Thunderbolt SSD has a solid metal enclosure further protecting your valuable data. It is also designed to work without the need for a noisy fan, meaning you'll never hear how fast your data is traveling--up to 270 MB/s.

Comments about Elgato Systems 240GB Thunderbolt SSD Portable Hard Drive:

As with most SSD drives, the specs on paper do not hold up to real world use. I don't get nearly the read/write speeds Elgato publishes, but I get faster than FW800 or USB 3 speeds. Not nearly as fast as a Promise. I will consider a spinning drive next time, as the one's I've used so far are all faster than this Elgato SSD drive.
