Product Highlights
  • 120GB Storage Capacity
  • Thunderbolt-Ready Technology
  • High-Speed Data Transfer Speeds
  • Silent Solid State Drive

The Thunderbolt SSD from Elgato Systems is an ultra-fast portable hard drive that features both a Solid State Drive (SSD), as well as Thunderbolt technology. With this combination you will have a device that dramatically outperforms the data transfer speeds of portable FireWire or USB drives, while also being far less prone to damage or failure than traditional hard drives.

Even better, the Elgato Thunderbolt SSD uses a strong metal enclosure for added protection of your valuable data as it shoots through the Thunderbolt cable (sold separately). It also has no need for noisy fans or spinning disks due to the SSD having no moving parts, so you won't hear a sound as your files race at speeds of 270 MB/s.

Lightning-Fast
The Elgato Thunderbolt SSD is one of the fastest single-drive storage solutions for your data managing needs. Utilizing a Solid State Drive (SSD), it dramatically outperforms state-of-the-art portable FireWire or USB drives
Ultra-Portable
The Elgato Thunderbolt SSD is engineered to draw power directly from the devices it plugs into, through the Thunderbolt port, without needing a separate cumbersome power supply. Now your data can always be there with you, even when you're not near a power source
Safe and Sound
Having no moving, mechanical parts, Solid State Drives are far less prone to accidental damage than traditional hard drives. Going even further, Thunderbolt SSD has a solid metal enclosure further protecting your valuable data. It is also designed to work without the need for a noisy fan, meaning you'll never hear how fast your data is traveling--up to 270 MB/s.

Comments about Elgato Systems 120GB Thunderbolt SSD Portable Hard Drive:

I'm using CS5.5 and iMac i7 and when adding a 2nd track of video I get screen tearing in the 2nd track. Driving me crazy. Don't seem to render from it any faster that a USB WD drive I'v been using. I can live with the render time but not the screen tearing/banding when adding more that 1 track of video. #FAIL

Comments about Elgato Systems 120GB Thunderbolt SSD Portable Hard Drive:

Bought the Elgato 120GB drive for a portable solution to my video work. I travel extensively and needed a drive suitable for video editing and this one did the trick for relatively small jobs. It actually fits in my one video bag. Unlike my other much larger thunderbolt drives, it adds very little weight. My only mistake was not to buy the larger one, which I will probably do in the near future.

Comments about Elgato Systems 120GB Thunderbolt SSD Portable Hard Drive:

I bought this product because it described the actual drive speed, unlike other products, who boast Thunderbolt's max capability of 10Gb/s. I tested the product using drive speed software, and it does come close to the advertised speed. There are cheaper options (with more space) if drive speed isn't a concern for you, though. It's fairly compact, and the enclosure is not made out of plastic, unlike other brands. I do like that.

Comments about Elgato Systems 120GB Thunderbolt SSD Portable Hard Drive:

No muss, no fuss, no wall wart since it draws power through the thunderbolt cable. Already formatted, so you just connect it and use it. I'm using this to stream virtual instruments with Apple Logic, a data-intensive task. Works flawlessly. Since it's solid state, there is no noise at all, not even a fan. The only complaint is that there is just one point of connection, so there is no way to daisy chain another drive. So make sure you're buying all the capacity you need. Or alternatively, you could own multiples of this drive for different uses.

I use it just for one week, the heat after using few hours is acceptable. It's made in Taiwan, good quality. Not made in China, thanks God.I bought a internal SSD 250G for 500 in 8.5 months ago, now it low down to 200. So, if not so rush, wait for few months, the price may low down too.Keep the receipt, it comes with three years' warranty ~

Comments about Elgato Systems 120GB Thunderbolt SSD Portable Hard Drive:

I am currently using this drive (120GB Version) to manage a 100GB Aperture library on my early 2012 Macbook Air. Bottom-line, this drive is super-fast! There is no discernible difference between the loading of the library housed on this drive and the loading of libraries hosted on the internal Macbook Air storage. The portability of the drive is also excellent, and the fact that it now comes bundled with a Thunderbolt cable is an excellent bonus. The included cable not only saved me 50 bucks, but the shorter length of the cable makes it much more manageable in my laptop bag. (Apple branded cable is 3 feet long!)Highly recommend this product!
