The Kirk BL-D800 L-Bracket for Nikon D800 and D800E allows you to switch from portrait to landscape orientation and vice versa with your D800 or D800E – efficiently, without the need to tilt your ball head and re-level the shot.
On both of its sides, the lightweight aluminum BL-D800 L-Bracket is compatible with Arca-Swiss-style quick-release clamps. It mounts to the bottom of the camera via a standard 1/4"-20 screw.
The single piece of machined 6061TG aluminum preserves your access to the battery compartment and the camera strap loop.

The perfect companion
I have used Kirk and RRS gear for years. For mounting and stability purposes, you cannot beat them. They are the sturdiest, lightest, best built plates and l brackets available.

I bought this bracket at the same time as a Giotto MH-3300 ball head and they mate very poorly. They just barely hold together although both are supposed to be Arca-Swiss compatible. I will have to replace the Kirk BL-9800 L-bracket. It does fit perfectly on the Nikon D800 end.

Comments about Kirk BL-D800 L-Bracket for Nikon D800 and D800E:
It's pretty hard to mess up an inanimate piece of metal, and this bracket didn't let me down. Fit and finish was excellent, no complaints. Compares well to my other RRS bracket.

Comments about Kirk BL-D800 L-Bracket for Nikon D800 and D800E:
Very good bracket. The allen-key screw works well, secures nice and strong to my camera. The bracket fits the d800 perfectly and the bracket works perfectly with my Benro tripod.

Comments about Kirk BL-D800 L-Bracket for Nikon D800 and D800E:
I purchased this for a trip to Iceland. The bracket is solid and lightweight. You forget it's there. It allows quick orientation changes without fumbling for the tripod ball head notch. Shooting is tough in Iceland with blowing rain and strong winds, not to mention cold temperatures. The Kirk L-bracket allows you to make the necessary adjustments with minimal effort so you don't miss the shot. All access to camera inputs and outputs is preserved. It can be slid over a bit to be used as a handle. I observed someone using his in this manner and it appeared efficient.

Comments about Kirk BL-D800 L-Bracket for Nikon D800 and D800E:
L-brackets are great for switching your camera from landscape to portrait very quickly, but they all do this. I have a RRS bracket for my D800 and bought this Kirk for the D800e; they are similar in price and both made in USA, so they are very comparable. The RRS has a nicer finish and better design lines, but that's about it, they are so similar it's hard to tell one from the other especially once mounted to the camera body.

Comments about Kirk BL-D800 L-Bracket for Nikon D800 and D800E:
It fits great. There is an allen wrench supplied but, of course, if you want to take this off you better not lose the wrench. The camera is able to stand on a flat surface with the bracket on it. Very sturdy bracket. If you're looking for an L-Bracket this one certainly works well. I have the screw-in clamp (not quick release lever) Arca Swiss Z1 monoball and it fits just fine.

Comments about Kirk BL-D800 L-Bracket for Nikon D800 and D800E:
Well built, very sturdy. Fits the camera's contours very nicely. I utilize L brackets not only for support on a tripod, but for a flash bracket as well. The fact that these brackets are interchangeable with other brands of clamps is a big plus & the primary reason I choose them.

The combination of L-Bracket by Kirk, my Benro tripod and 14-24mm/f2.8 Nikor zoom has made my panoramic photograph so much easy and precise. B&H's product comes earlier than its promise as always. Thanks both !

I've never used a different L-bracket so I cannot compare but the Kirk bracket is very well made and light. the loop on the bottom allows the camera to be carried vertically which I think is very practical.

Comments about Kirk BL-D800 L-Bracket for Nikon D800 and D800E:
I purchased this to replace my standard non l-bracket camera plate, also from Kirk, because I have found myself swapping between landscape and portrait mode more often than I anticipated and I wanted the added benefit it would offer when doing panos. Just like my other camera plate from Kirk, this fits my Nikon D800 perfectly. It has great fit and finish.

Comments about Kirk BL-D800 L-Bracket for Nikon D800 and D800E:
This is the first piece of gear I wanted for my Nikon D800 apart from a 32GB CF memory card. Having this bracket is a must for tripod shooting; landscape/portrait changes are a cinch. It's a simple, well-made piece of equipment. If you get in and out of the left-side of your camera, you may find it a bit inconvenient but, for my shooting, that's minor. Highly recommended.

Comments about Kirk BL-D800 L-Bracket for Nikon D800 and D800E:
Have L-brackets on 3 other DSLRs and they are a real time saver when going from horizontal to vertical on a tripod when using a short lens without a tripod collar. Reduces the need to recompose when changing from horizontal to vertical. Kirk makes photo items that have real quality built in. L-brackets add a bit of bulk but are worth the addition. Considering they are machined to fit a specific camera body I don't find them overly expensive.

It's a little expensive, but once you've used an L-bracket in the field you'll kick yourself for not using one before (I know I did).Excellent build quality.Side ports are accessable, but opening the door takes a little effort initially. The adjustable mounting position is a great addition that other plates do not have.Just buy it; the second you're on a tripod and want to switch orientations you'll be glad you did!

Comments about Kirk BL-D800 L-Bracket for Nikon D800 and D800E:
As expected, this Kirk bracket fits my D800 body perfectly. It is reasonably light weight and very rigid. Machining is beautifully smooth with a nice satin finish - not shiny like some cheaper brands. It ships with a captive screw, and the bracket can be slid laterally to permit access to the ports on the side of the camera. Regarding fit - I have lever clamps from RRS and Markins, and other plates from RRS and Kirk. This Kirk plate fits both the RRS and Markins clamps but does seem very slightly more snug in those clamps than my other plates, but I don't view this as a bad thing. I also like the convenience of being able to get this plate from B&H.
