The black U100 Urban Elite Backpack with 15-17" Laptop Compartment from Pelican delivers total functionality and ergonomic design in a strong pack designed to hold either your 15" or 17" Apple laptop. In addition, its hard shell, impact protected front panel unzips to reveal another safe compartment large enough for an iPad or tablet plus organizer for small stuff such as pens, note pads, or business cards. This panel also serves to protect the pack in case of drops or severe contact during your travels.
Your laptop is held securely within one of the pack's two cavities. This first compartment is an ABS thermoplastic (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), watertight and crushproof, and tested to meet IP67 (Ingress Protection) standards of 3' for 30 minutes. An EQ valve helps control pressure while traveling. The second zippered cavity is for anything else you might want to take along-clothes, documents or collateral material. An additional rear zippered compartment provides for extra storage capability. Access to this top-loading pack is via the easy open push button latch and easy throw zippers.
The U100 is made from 1000 Denier Kodra Nylon and is polyurethane backed for added strength. Kodra nylon has a rougher, fuzzier texture than traditional nylon. It's more abrasion-resistant and generally more lightweight. The front plate is hard polypropylene
The U100 is carried by its padded, adjustable shoulder straps and supported by a sternum strap to help with stability while walking. The pack also comes with Pelican's rigid, well-balanced, rubber molded top carry handle. Compressions straps help you adjust the overall footprint of the pack allowing you to expand or contract the overall size to suit the load you are carrying. The back panel is S-curved and ventilated for maximum comfort. As a bonus, the bottom of the pack has sling straps that are used for attaching your jacket or bed roll. And, since a day in the field can be long and arduous, Pelican has provided a hidden water bottle pocket on the side of the pack.

this thing is great! I use it on the dive boat for my computers and regulators, and other gear. I use for the everyday war getting downtown on the train or subway, throwing it in and out of the truncks of taxi's and limo's. THE ONLY THING WRONG IS THAT IT COULD BE DEEPER AND WIDER,I LIKE TO KEEP MY LAPTOP IN A NEOPREEN CASE 15" TO 17" IT IS VERY TIGHT.

I use this case to carry my Laptop, iPad, wireless router and various tools associated with my job as a live sound operatorI love the waterproof laptop compartment, the carry straps are comfortable and durable. It is good being able to padlock the laptop compartment, but having to use 2 padlocks is a bit annoying. Also I have a 13" laptop and use the block spacers provided, though the glue isn't sufficient and they just don't stick properly. My only other complaint is the outside pocket with the plastic protective cover. It would be good if this pocket was fixed to the outside of the backpack rather than integrated into it because when you fill the other compartments it makes this compartment difficult to use and close. I guess in general there are heaps of pockets but loading pockets in one layer affects what you can put in the next layer and in some cases making them unusable.

I travel extensively for work and need a durable, well designed way to safely carry my laptop and work related items. I've tried a courier bag, backpack, briefcase and about everything else out there. Finally, Pelican has developed a way to manage everything in an organized way that carries really comfortably and I will never have to worry about my laptop! The hard shell compartment is waterproof and secure.
I definitely recommend this bag if you travel, carry a laptop and are not wanting to be a part of the briefcase/shoulder bag awkward carry crew.

As a Department of Defense contractor jumping on an off Hercules C-130s and helicopters to recover WWII MIAs from inside glaciers and rainforests around the world I rely on this backpack for my MacBook Pro, iPad, SatPhones and ACR PLBs PLUS a set of clothing and survival essentials. Its comforable and replaces an awkward shoulder bag. The water tight compartment for the MacBook was the clincher for me. The Pelican Urban Elite Packpack very adequately protects the iPad and supplies well thought-out organization for other mission essentials.

I travel often and this backpack organizes and keeps my MacBook Retina safe. Its solid and comfortable. Zippers are strong and there's a lot of attention to detail of the bag...even the bottle openers on the straps. Couple of minor complaints..the laptop compartment is a tad big for the retina even with the additional foam pads. The other is the thickness of the back..if you dont overload it, it should fit under the seat of an airplane. If you do load it, it will be tight.
