Immerse yourself in 7.1-channel surround sound with the Onkyo HT-S5500 7.1 Home Theater System. The receiver and speaker package offers a solid foundation for any home theater with 1,030 watts of total power, including an independently powered 120-watt subwoofer for deep, robust bass that you can hear and feel. You can easily add a Blu-ray or DVD player and gaming console to complete your entertainment experience. With processing for an array of advanced Dolby and DTS audio formats, you can achieve a more detailed, realistic sound field.

The receiver's four HDMI 1.4a inputs and one HDMI 1.4a output support 3D content, so in addition to surround sound you can immerse yourself in the realistic, wraparound visuals of 3D content all in the comfort of your living room. It also carries an Audio Return Channel so that content can be directly received by your HDTV's tuner to be sent "upstream" without another cable. For gaming, Onkyo has included four DSP modes to customize your experience based on what type of game you're playing. This system also employs 192kHz/24-bit Burr Brown D/A converters for all channels. These provide sampling rates of up to 192 kHz with high resistance to clock jitter and a 113 dB dynamic range. They allow you to achieve clear, distortion-free surround sound in your home theater system.

With Audyssey setup technologies, you can enjoy an optimized audio experience. These work to ensure a consistent bass response, tonal balance and sound effect as well as smoothing out volume fluctuations so you can enjoy an optimized dynamic range. This way you won't have to reach for the remote during loud commercials or quiet dialogue scenes in your favorite movies, because your home theater system will even these out for you.

Connect your iPod, iPhone, or USB memory device via the front-panel USB port to widen your entertainment options. What's more, your compressed files can sound better than ever with the Advanced Music Optimizer that compensates for lost bit information that happens during compression of these files. The front panel analog A/V inputs also allow you to connect a game console or camcorder.

Whether you're looking to pump high definition audio and video into your home theater for movies, music or games, the HT-S5500 is a superb choice that can get the job done. It offers a sleek design as well, with a black high-gloss finish to complement any home theater setup.

1030 Watts of 7.1 Channel Surround Sound
Enjoy an enveloping 7.1 channel surround sound system to get the fullest experience from your favorite movies, music and games. The HT-S5500 offers 1,030 watts of audio power to fill your living room with clean, distortion-free audio that will make your entertainment come alive. The powerful 120-watt subwoofer provides bass you can hear and feel
HDMI 1.4 With 3D and ARC
Four HDMI 1.4 inputs and one HDMI 1.4 output offer the latest version of HDMI. These support 3D content, so you can enjoy the realistic, wraparound visuals that are found on more and more Blu-ray discs and games. If you already have a 3D HDTV or home theater projector, 3D glasses, and 3D-ready cable you're all set to enjoy 3D entertainment in your home theater. It also supports Audio Return Channel (ARC) so content can be directly received from your HDTV's tuner to be sent "upstream" via HDMI to the receiver without an additional S/PDIF cable
Dolby TrueHD
Dolby TrueHD is an advanced lossles multi-channel audio codec developed by Dolby Laboratories intended primarily for high definition home entertainment equipment. Dolby TrueHD audio tracks can carry up to 24 bit audio in up to 8 discrete channel at 96 kHz or up to 6 channels (5.1 surround) at 192 kHz. The maximum encoded bitrate is 18 Mb/s
DTS-HD Master Audio
DTS-HD Master Audio is also a lossless audio codec, but it supports variable bit rates up to 24.5 Mb/s on a Blu-ray disc. This advanced format supports a maximum of 192 kHz sampling frequency and 24-but depth samples in two channel stereo mode, and 96 kHz/24 bit resolution in multichannel mode with up to 8 channels. DTS-HD Master Audio allows for bit-to-bit representation of the original movie's studio master soundtrack
Dolby Pro Logic IIz
On the HT-S5500's A/V receiver, Dolby Pro Logic IIz enables you to incorporate two "front height" speakers into your surround sound setup as an alternative to the two surround back speakers. These front height channels carry ambient, non-directional audio that helps immerse you even more deeply into your movies and games
Four DSP Gaming Modes
To customize your gaming experience, Onkyo has included four game DSPs (digital sound processors) for different types of games. These include rock, sports, action and RPG (role paying)
Audessy Technologies "Fingerprint" Your Listening Environment
The HT-S5500 comes with three Audessy sound-enhancing technologies. Audessy 2EQ tailors multi-channel audio for your home theater speaker setup by measuring three room positions and applying a resolution filter to the satellite speakers to correct for room acoustics. Audessy Dynamic Volume automatically compensates for volume fluctuations in different audio content like during commercials and optimizes the dynamic range. Audessy Dynamic EQ maintains a consistent bass response, tonal balance, and surround-sound effect at different volume levels. That means you can enjoy the natural dynamics of your entertainment content no matter what volume it's being played back at
Front-Panel USB Port for Your iPod / iPhone
With the front panel USB port, you can access MP3, WMA, AAC, and FLAC audio files stored on a USB flash drive or your iPod or iPhone. The audio signals are transported in digital form so there is less chance for signal degradation. When you play these files, they'll sound cleaner and closer to the original recordings. The USB input also lets you use the system's remote control to play back audio files on your connected device
Advanced Music Optimizer for Compressed Music Files
This home theater system optimizes your MP3 and AAC files, since a significant amount of high-frequency bit information is lost when these files are compressed. Onkyo's Advanced Music Optimizer compensates for this lost bit information and to improve the quality of compressed audio signals. You'll hear your favorite music played back through the HT-S5500 with a clearer, expansive sound than ever before. This feature also includes a loudness correction to further improve the audio character of your compressed music files
Crossover Adjustment
The HT-S5500 employs a powerful 120-watt subwoofer for the low frequency effects (LFEs) of your movies, music and games. Since it is an active powered subwoofer, it draws an independent power supply to let the receiver focus on the mid and high frequency sounds. Additionally, you can set the crossover adjustment to 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 120, 150, or 200 Hz
Overlaid OSD via HDMI
The HT-S5500 makes changing settings easy with the overlaid on-screen display (OSD). On-screen setup menus appear overlaid on the video images you're watching so that you can make adjustments instantly, without switching back and forth from a blank screen background

Comments about Onkyo HT-S5500 7.1-Channel Home Theater System:

We use this system in out media room that is 12x20. The sound is amazing and would be good for a room as big as 20x30 easy. I set up the system in about 1 hour. I didn't use the speaker wire provided because it is cheap. Don't let the other reviews scare you off about the subwoofer problem. The sub turns off and on automatically (which is explained in the instructions). I highly recommend this system to anyone who is looking for a great system at a budget price.

Comments about Onkyo HT-S5500 7.1-Channel Home Theater System:

We use it for TV and music in our family room and it does a great job. This system has a much richer sound than our old 5 channel Sony system. Hook up was simple, I was playing music in about 30 minutes and that is just because I am old and slow. The one drawback is it will not convert my game systems cable format to HDMI to the TV, so I don't get surround for games.

Comments about Onkyo HT-S5500 7.1-Channel Home Theater System:

I researched sound systems for weeks, online and in many stores. I was not sure but since I have 1 Onkyo System, I decided to buy this one. Wow! It exceeded my expectations. All the comments about firmware--not true. I connected it in 10 minutes. It is perfect! No flaws, no complaints nothing negative to say. This is a perfect system for any room. I have this in my rec room of 900 square feet connected to 8 speakers and the subwoofer. Wow, it is absolutely great. Even better, B&H helped me with delivery because I had an old address and they fixed the problem in seconds. They are the best!!

I use this sound system in my game room. The room is about 900 sf with 9 foot ceilings. I have speakers in the ceiling, too. This sound system is totally amazing. The sound quality is well above my expectations and it was real easy to connect. I think it took me about 10 minutes.

Here is the best thing, B&H helped me with a big problem as my shipping address had not been updated and I missed seeing it. They rerouted the shipping through UPS in a matter of minutes. Thank you B&H and thank you Onkyo. I own 2 Onkyo systems and both are the best ever!!!

I am impressed by the sound and flexibility of this system. It is pretty plug and play since I used all HDMI cables. Auto sound setup was a breeze. Figuring out the compatability with other devices was kinda tricky, but finally figured it out. No hard copy manual, only a CD.

Using this system in the basement - part man cave, part teenage hang area. System sounds pretty good, especially considering it's under $. Setup is a breeze, and not as complicated as some other systems that I have. Take a few minutes and do the Audessey EQ setup for automatic gain control, delay and crossover settings for your speakers.Plan on buying more speaker cable unless you're installing this in your bathroom. The cable furnished with the kit are about 10' long each. The powered sub was DOA, so I'm waiting for a replacement. In the meantime, I've substituted a boston acoustics 10".Quick start guide is hard copy, but the owner's manual is on a CD. So to get remote codes for TV, DVD, etc., you have to go to your computer.

Comments about Onkyo HT-S5500 7.1-Channel Home Theater System:

I've got a 55 Samsung LED TV and like any TV no matter how much you spend the speakers suck. I also have a "Smart BluRay" and use it to get to Netflix and other movie sites. Well, I wanted a Home Theater System and also wanted it to be able to work with an XBox, and be able to listen to FM Radio. This past weekend I went out and bought a Denon Home Theater in a Box and ended up taking it back....it was hard to set up the manual was very lacking and when I finally got it working it only lasted about a minute and then I lost audio to all but the center speaker. BACK IT WENT. When I got home I thought to myself...I should have taken the Salesperson's advice. He said that Denon was over rated. I NOW AGREE. I did a lot of investigation online and came upon the HT=S5500 and then searched for the best price. B&H had it and also offered free delivery. I ordered on Sunday morning and had it in my house on Wednesday. Was totally shocked I got it that quick because I didn't utilize any of the "extra priced" shipping options. The hardest part of hooking this system up was running the speaker wires and doing my best to hide them. I had the whole system set up in about an hour. When I fired it up it worked the first time. ABSOLUTELY GREAT SOUNDING SYSTEM. This HTIAB is not the cheapest setup you can buy, but by no stretch is it expensive. It's got a ton of power, great sounding speakers, great bass out of the Sub, and the price just blew me away compared to what I paid for the Denon. Setup is super easy, and there is a Speaker Calibration tool that comes with it that really works well. Love this system. The Receiver also fit well in a cubbie in my "not too accomodating" entertainment center. I would have rated this system 5 stars but didn't ONLY BECAUSE the speaker wire is cheap. I had a roll of good quality 16 gauge wire and used that instead of the speaker wire supplied with the unit. IN SHORT... you won't be dissapointed if you buy this system and B&H was great to deal with....real simple, real fast and everything the ad said as far as what was included turned out to be FACT... OH, almost forgot...it's got a USB connection point on the face of the Receiver for an iPod... It works and sounds great. Ya gotta get one if you don't want to spend a ton of money but want something that sounds great.... GET ONE !!!
