Comments about Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 Lens for Micro 4/3 Cameras:

Never in my wildest dreams have I thought I'd ever use a manual lens. So when I stumbled upon the Voigtlander Nokton reviews, I was curious. I was astounded by the photo quality, so I investigated. When I found out it was a manual lens I almost put it aside, until I went into a store and tested it out.

I was blown away by the weight of this thing. It's solid. Great, so it's heavy AND it's a manual focus lens. Nevertheless, I gave it a go. Great scott, the photo quality is AMAZING! The colours were crisp and rich, the photos were sharp tack, and the ability to pick what you want to focus on is just... exhilarating. Suddenly this became THE standard by which I judged other lenses. It's the same feeling I got when I moved from point and shoot cameras to a DSLR. (of course now I've moved to Micro Four Thirds, which is excellent - that Panasonic GM1 ). Back to the Nokton - unbelieveable. Just unbelievable. It is worth the price you pay for, because you will not turn back. Wish I could afford the other Noktons as well!

I spent weeks agonising over whether to get the 17.5mm or the 25mm Nokton. In the end I chose the 17.5mm for the simple practical reason that the versatile focal length meant I can do portraits and/or landscapes if needs be. THE perfect lens.

Super sharp throughout. Some purple vignetting wide open. Awesome for video with its manual controls. Never take it off my gh3. Metal construction is super solid.

Comments about Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 Lens for Micro 4/3 Cameras:

This lens (and the Voigtlander 42.5 I also bought from B&H) are by far my favorite lenses among all that I've got - including all of Nikon's legendary glass. It's a light machine, perfect for street photography at night, and opened all the way produces exquisite bokeh.

I'm using this on the BMPCC. The manual mode is perfect for my work. Lens and build quality beyond reproach. It is a little heavy. Re back to the future it reminds me of my Pentax screw mount lenses of the 60's and 70's which in fact I'm using also on the BMPCC with an adapter.

I lens goes incredibly well with my GH3. My favorite thing about it is the versatile depth of field. Wide open will give you a super shallow depth of field similar to what you'd get on a full frame camera, but stopped down to around f2.8 will provide a much more practical DOF for video work without losing too much light.

It's a bit soft wide open, but it's a nice softness. Gives it a bit of a dreamy look. Super sharp by F1.4.

Comments about Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 Lens for Micro 4/3 Cameras:

As a 35mm equivalent on the M4/3 GH3, the 17.5mm Nokton is an absolute mainstay for video shooting. The lens is just wide enough to compose an excellent shot that fills the frame with more subject matter than the 25mm Nokton, and doesn't perceptibly distort lines or faces whatsoever. F/.95 is an added bonus that makes night shooting a breeze. The metal focusing ring is as smooth as butter! I'd have to say that this is one of the finest manual M4/3 lenses on the market for the price. I assure you, this lens will not disappoint!

This lens is a dream. If you have the money, don't hesitate and buy it. I'm a happy bankrupt guy after i got this lens in my kit. It's a relatively high investment, but worth every penny. Amazing built quality, great color rendition, pleasant focusing, useful FOV for the m4/3 format (it becomes a 35mm, great for street photographers and videomakers) and surprisingly sharp when wide open. I have not found any deal breaker on this lens. The only downside till now was the slight color shift when wide open. Nothing that even come close to a problem. This is almost like a super high quality zeiss lens, but cheaper. Like i said, it's a dream lens. If you can't buy it yet, start dreaming about it. You'll have no regrets once you get your hands on one of those.

This lens paired with my Olympus OM-D was a match made in heaven. The quality is superb. You certainly feel the heft of the metal and glass inside the lens. Smooth aperture and focusing rings. These are what I missed from shooting with my Nikon FM2 film camera. Having the aperture on the lens feels better than using the wheel on the camera. For those who have a problem shooting with manual focus, it will be even more challenging if your camera does not have a focus assist. I find that prefocusing was the best thing to do for quick shots with no time to fiddle with settings. Otherwise the lens is top-notch.

35mm Equivalent makes it great for master shots on video!
Strong and slick build of the lens feels great on set.

Comments about Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 Lens for Micro 4/3 Cameras:

Impressive sharpness at center at f/0.95, and only gets sharper when stopped down. The subject isolation is fantastic especially with the exceptional bokeh you get from the 10 aperture blades, and at f/0.95 you won't even be able to make out whats in the back ground. The focus ring is smooth, well dampened and quickly dispels any want for auto focus with this lens.

Comments about Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 Lens for Micro 4/3 Cameras:

Simply the best lens I've ever used. It gives me such an intimate feeling with my lens and camera. The manual focus is just superb; it gives you that connection between your environment, your eyes, and your fingers, so you can always anticipate the motion and never miss a shot.
And at f/0.95, the lowlight capability is just incredible - creamy smooth on the background, and tack sharp on your subject. The color rendering is just superb on the E-M5. Highly recommended. Worth every single penny.
This will be an heirloom lens... but I don't think I'll pass down to my kids. I just love it too much. Haha

Comments about Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 Lens for Micro 4/3 Cameras:

I am a fan of the Voigtlander lenses and was amazed at the visual appeal the 25mm 0.95 gave my video (I use a panasonic AF100). Because I wanted to achieve a film look but couldn't afford to invest in Zeiss primes, I thought I would give the other Voigtlander's a try. They haven't disappointed me at all. Plus, the look between the Voigtlander's is consistent and doesn't require any real correction to preserve continuity as I switch lenses during a scene. I'm perfectly pleased with my purchase. It has the same heavy, solid feel and smooth focus which makes things a lot easier for an amateur like myself. I guess the only possible con is that it is heavier than other lenses, but I consider that a sign of its durability.

Is it really worth the money? After all, it is spendy.

Well made, robust, excellent low light ability, excellent image quality. De-clicked aperature for cine style shooting.

So was it worth it? .... yes. :-)

Comments about Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 Lens for Micro 4/3 Cameras:

I've had this lens for about a month now and it's been superb. It's extra special with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 camera and its In-body Stabilization. The lens is heavy but solid. Compare to my D700 or D800E w/ grips and its lenses I really can't complain about the weight...overall, I'm ecstatic with this fine piece of equipment.
