Comments about Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 Lens for Micro 4/3 Cameras:

This lens is what everyone says it is. Magical. great for portrait and street shots. haven't really tried it with night photography yet but many people say it's good because of it's fast. It's very sharp and great shallow depth of field. I use this lens on family photos and capturing things on my walks, and travels. it's less forgiving than most lenses though. at 0.95, you need to make sure you are focused on the subject. very easy to put it out of focus. the lens is heavy but feels like it's a tank. no communication or autofocus with this and your camera. you will need to do everything manually. but it's a good lens to help you learn that. nice feature on the aperture, you can slide the ring to make the clickable stops to smooth turns for video. I love it!

Comments about Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 Lens for Micro 4/3 Cameras:

Love the shallow depth of field but you need to buy a set of good ND filters to use it outside a dark room. I really like the ability to switch between clicked and click-less aperture in seconds for video use. Mechanism is smooth and construction is robust.
Only downside is length and weight but you probably can't have the great feel and durability without it.

Comments about Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 Lens for Micro 4/3 Cameras:

I used this with a BMPCC and it worked well with campfire light (flames 2 ft high, subject 8ft from flames) with the blackmagic pocket camera at 360 shutter and 800ASA and 1600ASA. It really sharpens up at a couple clicks up, but the .95 is nice if you need the speed.

PS. The BMPCC is 2.88 crop, so this lens looks like a 50mm, not 35mm as described for m4/3.

When your Emmy Award winning cinematographer friend recommends a lens you take a look. When you read the rave reviews you buy that lens. But when you work with it and the lens exceeds all of your expectations, you want to tell the world! We just wrapped shooting our second Television Commercial using the Nokton Voigtlander. In over fifteen years of production I have never gotten so much bang for the buck. This glass works...

Comments about Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 Lens for Micro 4/3 Cameras:

Never in my wildest dreams have I thought I'd ever use a manual lens. So when I stumbled upon the Voigtlander Nokton reviews, I was curious. I was astounded by the photo quality, so I investigated. When I found out it was a manual lens I almost put it aside, until I went into a store and tested it out.

I was blown away by the weight of this thing. It's solid. Great, so it's heavy AND it's a manual focus lens. Nevertheless, I gave it a go. Great scott, the photo quality is AMAZING! The colours were crisp and rich, the photos were sharp tack, and the ability to pick what you want to focus on is just... exhilarating. Suddenly this became THE standard by which I judged other lenses. It's the same feeling I got when I moved from point and shoot cameras to a DSLR. (of course now I've moved to Micro Four Thirds, which is excellent - that Panasonic GM1 ). Back to the Nokton - unbelieveable. Just unbelievable. It is worth the price you pay for, because you will not turn back. Wish I could afford the other Noktons as well!

I spent weeks agonising over whether to get the 17.5mm or the 25mm Nokton. In the end I chose the 17.5mm for the simple practical reason that the versatile focal length meant I can do portraits and/or landscapes if needs be. THE perfect lens.

This lens (and the Voigtlander 42.5 I also bought from B&H) are by far my favorite lenses among all that I've got - including all of Nikon's legendary glass. It's a light machine, perfect for street photography at night, and opened all the way produces exquisite bokeh.

I'm using this on the BMPCC. The manual mode is perfect for my work. Lens and build quality beyond reproach. It is a little heavy. Re back to the future it reminds me of my Pentax screw mount lenses of the 60's and 70's which in fact I'm using also on the BMPCC with an adapter.

I lens goes incredibly well with my GH3. My favorite thing about it is the versatile depth of field. Wide open will give you a super shallow depth of field similar to what you'd get on a full frame camera, but stopped down to around f2.8 will provide a much more practical DOF for video work without losing too much light.

It's a bit soft wide open, but it's a nice softness. Gives it a bit of a dreamy look. Super sharp by F1.4.

As a 35mm equivalent on the M4/3 GH3, the 17.5mm Nokton is an absolute mainstay for video shooting. The lens is just wide enough to compose an excellent shot that fills the frame with more subject matter than the 25mm Nokton, and doesn't perceptibly distort lines or faces whatsoever. F/.95 is an added bonus that makes night shooting a breeze. The metal focusing ring is as smooth as butter! I'd have to say that this is one of the finest manual M4/3 lenses on the market for the price. I assure you, this lens will not disappoint!

This is a really nice portrait lens. Easy to use and produces really crisp images.

I also own the Voigtlander 25mm but I use the 17.5 more. I have tons of micro 4/3 glass but I think this one is the best micro 4/3 lens out there. If you shoot video is great. In low light is amazing. Great DoF. Get it!

Incredibly fast. Had few issues with the GH2 "seeing" the lens was attached. Kept giving an error code. Had to go into the menus to make it work. Works perfectly with our AF100.

This lens is a dream. If you have the money, don't hesitate and buy it. I'm a happy bankrupt guy after i got this lens in my kit. It's a relatively high investment, but worth every penny. Amazing built quality, great color rendition, pleasant focusing, useful FOV for the m4/3 format (it becomes a 35mm, great for street photographers and videomakers) and surprisingly sharp when wide open. I have not found any deal breaker on this lens. The only downside till now was the slight color shift when wide open. Nothing that even come close to a problem. This is almost like a super high quality zeiss lens, but cheaper. Like i said, it's a dream lens. If you can't buy it yet, start dreaming about it. You'll have no regrets once you get your hands on one of those.

Comments about Voigtlander Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 Lens for Micro 4/3 Cameras:

This lens paired with my Olympus OM-D was a match made in heaven. The quality is superb. You certainly feel the heft of the metal and glass inside the lens. Smooth aperture and focusing rings. These are what I missed from shooting with my Nikon FM2 film camera. Having the aperture on the lens feels better than using the wheel on the camera. For those who have a problem shooting with manual focus, it will be even more challenging if your camera does not have a focus assist. I find that prefocusing was the best thing to do for quick shots with no time to fiddle with settings. Otherwise the lens is top-notch.
