The U47VC-DS51 14.1" Notebook Computer (Silver) from ASUS has powerful dual-core Intel Core i5 processing power and seamless multitasking capabilities, which allows for greater energy efficiency and a smooth user experience.
The 14.1" widescreen display is backlit with LED lamps, which use less power and provide better image quality than their CCFL counterparts. The screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio, which is also the standard for HDTVs. The 1366 x 768 native resolution is supported by a nVIDIA GeForce GT 620M graphics card with 1GB of dedicated memory.
The system is powered by a dual-core 2.5GHz Intel Core i5-3210M processor. It also has 8GB of DDR3 RAM, a 750GB 5400rpm hard drive, a SuperMulti DVD burner, 3-in-1 media card reader, 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi Bluetooth 4.0, an integrated webcam and microphone. There are also built-in stereo speakers. Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) is the installed operating system.

I use this computer every day for email, word, excel, and web development. It performs very well but seems to be a little unstable. Programs crash and reboot unexpectedly.
I like it size, weight, and added features such as automatically turning of touch pad when I have a usb mouse attached.

I was looking for a laptop that was fast and handy
when sitting in my den. My old laptop took forever to search the internet. This new Asus is very quick and even fun to use. The backlit keyboard is a plus and the screen is clear and crisp looking.
Not sure the battery last 8 hours as indicated but no matter I find this 14 inch laptop to be a joy overall to use.

Wanted a pc laptop for a change (mostly a mac man). After sorting through dozens of systems, I thought this one was the most balanced and best value under 15 inches and [$]. Very portable, compact for a 14.1" screen. Dimensions and weight are almost an exact match to the 13" MacBook Pro. (Fits perfectly in a bag designed for MBP 13.)Dual core ivy bridge is almost as fast as my quad core iMac. The matte display is a big plus. The battery life is amazing (8hrs + with WiFi under normal use). The fans are quiet and the thermals are great even under heavy load. (Much superior to any mac laptop I've used in the last five years.) The GeForce 620 does not look that great on paper, but is surprisingly capable in most modern games at the native 1366 x 768 resolution. Overall build quality is solid. The backlit keyboard is a real pleasure to type on. Personal tastes vary, but I cannot stress enough how much I like the feel of it.The only cons I found are the power adapter is slightly bulky and the right click travel distance is a little shallow compared to a normal click, which gives it an odd feel.Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend this system to anyone who is looking for a system that is both powerful and portable. For a little more bulk and weight, a much better bang for the buck than the ultraportables everyone is pushing these days.

- pretty much same size as my older asus u80 14". wish it was thinner (actually thicker in back with rubber feet than u80 w/ rubber feet).
- nice backlit keyboard
- terrible washed out screen, worse than u80. matte finish minimizes glare but screen is so washed out it's barely usable. spent hours tweaking color/driver settings, but still bad.
- touchpad software was not good. ended up grading to newer elan software available for samsung laptop with same pad and it's a little better.
in summary, wish I could say it was just better in every way compared to older u80 but can't.
