Designed specifically for the unique demands of the motion picture industry, the EOS-1D C Camera from Canon is a breakthrough in hybrid HDSLR technology--able to record stills, 4K and Full HD video, to either two on-board CF cards or uncompressed Full HD to outboard recorders.
One of the largest benefits of having 4K video technology in a DSLR body is that it will be able to go places that other larger 4K cameras cannot, providing new ways of composing and capturing scenes. It is also compatible with the entire fleet of Canon EOS lenses already available, and perhaps already in your arsenal. If you're looking for a powerful yet versatile rig that knows what a cinematographer wants and needs, then Canon answers the call with this impressive offering.
The EOS-1D C was built to shoot cinematic quality, in a compact and versatile EOS body. It is able to capture 4K (4096 x 2160), 24p (23.976) content directly to its on-board CF memory cards. It does this by using an 8-bit 4:2:2, high bit rate Motion JPEG compression scheme--allowing 4K content to be acquired in virtually any shooting environment, without an off-board external recorder.
Coupled with the camera's small form factor, the EOS-1D C allows 4K recording in environments that would normally be impossible or that would require much larger cameras, crews and permits. It also allows filmmakers to be discreet in crowded or hostile shooting environments, on and in vehicles, or even in underwater housings.
In addition to its large pixel size--for outstanding still images and 4096 x 2160 video--the camera provides the serious photographer with a generous ergonomic design, along with a smart layout of the controls. Dual CF card slots ensure that every shot can be captured, while the magnesium alloy body is dust and weather resistant, allowing you to get the job done without hesitation, or worry.
Producing the selective focus and field of view that made filmmakers fall in love with the EOS 5D Mark II, the standard Full-Frame HD setting on the EOS-1D C takes advantage of the camera's 36mm sensor width. This setting is ideal when filmmakers want to take full advantage of Canon's EF and EF Cinema prime lenses to capture that unique and distinct full-frame look--though Canon's EF Cinema zoom lenses require the Super 35mm Cropping setting, fixed focal length EF Cinema lenses will cover the area of a full-frame sensor.
As a new category of hybrid HDSLR cameras is created, capable of shooting 4K video--the motion picture industry standard--Canon and the EOS-1D C enter previously uncharted territory. Now cinematographers can shoot feature films from inside cars and planes, or documentaries using underwater housings--allowing a whole new perspective to be captured for the big screen.

Comments about Canon EOS-1D C Camera (Body Only):
Video/photography . Having the Mark III and the 1 DX I was a bit skeptical about the 1 DC. The technology promised seemed a bit over board. I borrowed this camera from a friend and shot 2 weeks in France. Came back and used photo shop cs6 for editing and was amazed! Takes beautiful still shots and easily switches back and forth to video mode. This camera is the future of photography .... If you've got the money BUY it. After my 2 week trip with the borrowed 1 DC I immediately purchased it after getting home. You won't be sorry.

Comments about Canon EOS-1D C Camera (Body Only):
Primary use: wildlife photography-videography. I have been carrying the Red Epic, Canon EOS Mark IV, & Canon 5D Mark III. They all work great doing what each does best. The exceptional low light capability of the EOS 1-D X & !-D C makes either one a great tool for wildlife video-photography and an excellent upgrade from the Canon 1D Mark IV. I choose the "C". The X would have likely meet my needs ok too. I use live view and video a lot and have never damaged any Canon 7D, 5D2, 5D3 , !-D Mk4. I have make them shut off from high temperature protection lots and lots of times. I choose the "C" for durability. Its heatsink is heavier than the "X". The battery holds up well. I'll make use of the camera's exceptional super 35 1080 video capabilities and will shoot it in pouring down rain, mud, cold, ice and heat like I have all my other bullet proof Canons. My initial impression is that the 4k mjpeg is way too much downgrade compromise for my use. I'll get the Black Magic Camera from B&H soon and will carry it as a silent lightweight tool when conditions are too harsh for the Red Epic. I expect that the Black Magic lower res raw output will outperform the so called 4k jpeg from the "C". This hasn't been well researched by me yet. I do not want to leave the impression that I am unhappy with the "C". It meets my needs perfectly. Wildlife photography involves setting up instantaneously or missing the shot. This camera's operation is really fast with a skilled operator.I've not touched on many of its vast capabilities which I personally am not needing yet. Its an excellent camera for stills and video. If my budget was tighter and I needed low light capabilities I would also be very happy with the 1-D X. Given a choice,I would buy the EOS 1-D C again and am very happy with it.

Comments about Canon EOS-1D C Camera (Body Only):
Canon has done it again with this amazing camera, it has an excellent performance and image quality way better that the 5D and 7D.As a Director / DP, I've been shooting with HDSLR's because I like the flexibility that this cameras offer and as a 7D owner, I was looking for an upgrade that would give me the same benefits and that would play well with the accessories that I already had.The 1DC has it all, amazing 4K, really good build quality and ergonomics, unreal low light performance and 60 fps at 1080p, these features makes it the perfect tool for filmmaking and commercial production.
